ABB FIA FORMULA E CHAMPIONSHIP SEASON 4 ROUND 9 MEDIA PACK BERLIN E-PRIX 19 MAY 2018 Flughafen Tempelhof
RACE PREVIEW Bullish in Berlin The ninth round of the ABB FIA Formula E Championship on Saturday 19th May sees the Mahindra Racing team returning to the scene of its breakthrough win in 2017 when Felix Rosenqvist dominated the Berlin double-header, winning one race and finishing second in the other. For Nick Heidfeld, the Berlin E-Prix represents a home race for the popular German who has a huge following in his homeland, built upon 186 Formula 1 race starts and four seasons of being a front runner in the pioneering all-electric racing series. For Mahindra Racing, the team s maiden win in 2017 was a landmark victory. Quite simply, it was the most prestigious win by an Indian team in the history of motor racing. But Mahindra Racing returns to the historic Tempelhof venue knowing that repeating that success will be a challenge as the level of competition and intensity of Formula E competition has increased significantly in the last 11 months. The quest for further podiums, wins, pole positions and fastest laps continues in the remaining four races of the Season 4 championship. "Tempelhof and Berlin will always bring back great memories for me and the emotion of Mahindra s first win will be something that will be permanently etched on my mind. The last race in Paris was a reminder that we are only as good as our last race. Much work has gone in to understanding what went wrong in Paris and with that knowledge we have prepared diligently for the Berlin race. The FIA have tweaked the circuit again so we will be challenged on every aspect of our delivery and this is why we love Formula E. Nick gets to race in front of his home crowd and it would make me truly happy to see Nick on the podium again and Felix knows that a mistake free weekend will see him challenging for a win. So all to play for and an exciting weekend lies in store for us. DILBAGH GILL Team Principal & CEO
FELIX ROSENQVIST Berlin was our highlight of last year so it brings back good memories having two podiums and our first win there. It s a cool place to race at and the track seems to suit our package pretty well. I m very hungry to get on the podium and break the drought we ve had since Marrakesh. NICK HEIDFELD Even though Berlin is not a street circuit in the common sense; it is still a highlight of the year for me. It s a home E-Prix for me and we were very competitive last year and hope to get things back on track in regards to targeting moving forward in both championships. TECHNICAL PREVIEW Vinit Patel, Chief Engineer Each race is approached with the same mindset of doing the best we can and of late, its been about going in the mindset of winning. Paris was a bit of a blip for reasons that we re still investigating, but we simply didn t have the pace through the day to push hard enough. I do think we can put that to one side and pick up where we left off, and although we ve dropped a significant number of points and we ve had our issues this year, I don t see anything stopping us from competing for wins in the remaining races of the season. We d really like to mimic the Audi resurgence this year to be able to get back to the top of the pack. Despite their problems earlier on in the season, they ve been fabulously resurgent and showed some superb pace in Paris. Daniel overtook a lot of cars on a track that s notorious for not allowing much overtaking, and had it not been for some potentially questionable tactics by Techeetah and Lotterer, Lucas would have probably have had quite a go at catching JEV. Tempelhof is unique because it s an open, unique airfield with historical significance dating back to World War Two. Hence, it cannot be touched in terms of modifications or holes in the surface etc. This makes for a very abrasive track that provides a lot of grip, which we were able to take advantage of quite a lot more than others last year. Formula E have done a great job of making an interesting set of corners with plenty of overtaking opportunities on the wide circuit, so as we saw last year, Felix was able to overtake into Turn 1. We see some of the fastest corners in Formula E at this track and there are a lot of overtaking opportunities on the back straight. The wide nature of the circuit will definitely throw up some great side-by-side racing as well. It will be a little cooler than last year, but seeing as it s currently spring, we won t have an indication of the temperature and conditions until we re much, much closer to race time. The thermal game will definitely be more of a factor than Paris because we re also going to be using a lot of power due to the nature of the circuit and the team is really looking forward to this race, but also the large steins of beer that Germany has to offer!

Rear suspension Mahindra design and manufacture of steel & aluminium parts throughout. Motor & inverter cooling Mahindra designed entire system, using carbon fibre, aluminium, and plastics. Car + driver weight 880kg (regulation as season 3) with considerable ballast included. The only significant change in Technical requirement relative to Season 4 is an increase in race power from 170kW to 180kW therefore demanding more from all elements of the car across a similar season. Going into the new season with confidence is an outcome of the continued partnership with Magneti Marelli (among other top-flight suppliers), and equally importantly, the internal bolstering of technical expertise resources, across all technical areas. The M4Electro powertrain has been heavily revised in every key area relative to M3Electro and has undergone weight reductions in all major areas; most notably moving away from a multi-speed transmission.
