The golf course is in great shape, so I hope you are getting a chance to play on a regular basis. It looked like the place to be this past weekend. Good crowds each day. You know that Joe Rathkamp has resigned and is headed for the Oconomowoc Golf Club. Joe has provided immeasurable guidance of RCC for more than 20 years. I hope you get a chance to offer Joe sincere thanks for what he has given us and your best wishes for the next phase in his career. Joe will certainly be missed, and we are confident that his move to OGC will be good for him personally and professionally. We have also received a letter of resignation from Chef Peter. Peter has been the strength behind a reputation for great food at RCC. He has served us well for many years. We wish him the very best for his future. The Board of Directors continues to work at making both short and long- range decisions that impact the operation of our Club. We welcome your constructive input, as we all have the best interest of the Club at heart. We are very pleased to announce that we have hired Jamie Naquin as our House Manager. His work will focus on the bar and restaurant elements of our operation. Jamie brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to this position, and we have every expectation that your clubhouse experience will be very positive. In an effort to make the transition as seamless as possible, Jamie is spending as much time as he can shadowing Joe this week. We will continue to look at our various options for the long haul. In the meantime, we encourage you to thank Joe and Peter for their years of dedicated service to RCC, and welcome Jamie to his new role. Thank you! FROM THE DESK OF BOB FELLER It a great day for golf! This year s Pro Member is Sunday, June 3rd. We have a talented group of Professionals coming to play our course this year. Golf Professionals have been asked to bring a guest this year to add to the fun. We are still looking for sponsors. Please contact the golf shop if you are interested. The PGA has once again designated a special week for women golfers. This year s Women s Golf Week is June 25 th -29 th here at the Club. I will be hosting a free clinic on Tuesday, June 26th at 11:00 on the range. New clubs will be available during this time for you to try out. Sign up is on the ladies bulletin board in the trophy room. Female guests play free on this day also! The Men s Invitational is Saturday and Sunday, June 9 and 10th. This is a perfect event to invite a friend and showcase our club. Golf takes place over two days and includes a tee gift, dinner Saturday night (new), lunch and hors d oeuvres on Sunday and prizes. The cost of the event is $120. This is always a fun and entertaining event. Looking for a great gift for Father s Day? We have a fabulous choice of golf attire, bags, clubs and balls. How about a gift certificate for some golf lessons? Remember that we will special order anything your heart desires. Junior golf sign up continues until June 7 th. This is a simple and fun way to introduce young people to the game of golf. We also have clubs and golf shirts for junior golfers. Lessons take place over six weeks and culminate in a tournament and picnic the following week. Contact the golf shop to sign up. Season long matches start May 16th. Make sure to schedule your Stone /Presidents Cup / Best Ball matches as soon as possible. Matches are posted in the golf shop and e-mailed to the participants with phone numbers to help set up the matches. Deadline Rules for Matches If participants are unable to play their matches on or before the deadline (1 st round must be completed by the middle of June), and if neither player concedes the mach, the participant who is on the 1 st tee at 1pm on the final date specified shall be declared the winner, otherwise both shall default. Our goal is to have the matches completed by the deadline!! Any disputes over rules or the playing of matches will be referred to the club pro/or golf committee. Their decision is final. We need your help! In light of the rising cost of gas and the extra wear done to the golf course, we ask members to only use two golf carts per foursome. On a personal note, I would like to thank RCC General Manger Joe Rathkamp for his 21 years of outstanding service to the Club! The leadership and dedication he gave everyday he worked will be greatly missed. Thanks again Joe and best wishes. See you on the lesson tee!! Bob 2
BOB S TIP FOR THE MONTH How to Correctly Repair a Ball Mark Please study the diagram above on how to correctly repair your ball marks. A correctly repaired ball mark will regenerate itself in a couple of days. An un-repaired ball mark takes weeks to heal. CORRECT 1. Discard the loose piece of turf taken out by the ball. 2. Insert the repair tool just outside the back of the ball mark. 3. Pull the turf toward the center of the hole. 4. Gently pat down the repaired undamaged turf over the ball mark, providing almost instant recovery. INCORRECT 1. Do not replace the loose piece of turf taken out by the ball. It will die and delay the healing * process. 2. Do not pry up the center of the depression with the repair tool as it exposes the soil, damages the root system, and will delay the healing process. 3. Do not insert the repair tool and twist it. This will also damage the root system and will break away any loose turf. This will also delay the healing process.
