Purpse: T prvide detailed instructins n the prepared plan f actin in case f life r limb-threatening cnditins rendered by any staff r athlete at the specified venue. has a written emergency plan that MUST be fllwed in the event f a medical emergency. All caches need t be familiar with this dcument and their rle and respnsibility in an emergency. Any questins shuld be directed t the head athletic trainer (r schl administratr, nly in the absence f a certified athletic trainer). An emergency is a limb r life-threatening situatin that requires Emergency Medical Services (EMS) t give further medical attentin and/r transprt an athlete t the hspital. In these situatins, it is imprtant t have effective crdinatin between the athletic trainer, administratin, caches, security persnnel and student respnders. This plan is intended t utline the prtcl that must be fllwed and delineate rles shuld an emergency ccur. Emergency Persnnel: The Certified Athletic Trainer (ATC), als certified in Prfessinal Rescuer CPR/AED and First Aid, is assigned t lead any medical services needed by athletes r staff. Since the ATC cannt be present at every practice r cmpetitin fr every sprt, members f the caching staff fr each respective athletic seasn are present at all sprting practices and cmpetitins, and are t be CPR/AED certified prir t their athletic seasn. Additinally, the Athletic Directr (AD) and Assistant Athletic Directr (AAD) are members f the emergency persnnel, and are t be CPR/AED certified. Training f Persnnel: Training f all persnnel is t be revisited at the start f each athletic seasn t ensure current knwledge f prcedures, and is t be led by the ATC. Rles and respnsibilities are t be explicitly described in rder t allw all persnnel under the supervising ATC (Sprts Medicine students, caches, AD/Administratin, Security) t be prepared fr immediate delegatin in the event f an emergency. Emergency Cmmunicatin: Assigned ATC is t have a cell phne and radi (if available) n persn at all times. Als, the nearest fixed telephne line shuld be identified specific t each venue n-site which allw athletic activity. T cntact EMS n the fixed line, dial 9-911. Delegatin fr cntacting EMS shuld fllw the Chain f Cmmand (see belw). Chain f Cmmand: 1. Certified Athletic Trainer- Brittany Frymire, MA, ATC Lead staff in life r limb-threatening interventin, including any necessary immediate delegatin (i.e. initiate EMS, prvide care, retrieve emergency equipment, flag and direct EMS t site, retrieve emergency card, cntact parent/guardian) Triage- determine wh gets treated first Maintain a calm and cnfident atmsphere fr all persnnel Infrm all necessary administratin f the event Dcument the event in fine detail 2. Caches Secndarily lead staff in life r limb-threatening interventin Assume lead psitin in the absence f ATC. Initiate EMS (D nt terminate phne call until emergency peratr des s first) Practively assume rle f first respnder (see Rles f First Respnder belw) when nearest t the victim, until ATC arrives (if certified t d s) Retrieve emergency equipment when Sprts Medicine students are nt present (see Emergency Equipment belw) It is the respnsibility f the caching staff t bring, and keep stcked, the assigned First Aid kit t each team functin where physical activity is invlved.

Practively assume rle f first respnder (see Rles f First Respnder belw) when nearest t the victim, until ATC arrives (if certified t d s). Accept any ther delegatin prvided by ATC. 4. Security/Sprts Medicine students Practively assume rle f first respnder (see Rles f First Respnder belw) when nearest t the victim, until ATC arrives (if certified t d s). Assist lead r acting lead staff. Initiate EMS when instructed t d s by any superir persnnel n the Chain f Cmmand; D nt terminate phne call until emergency peratr des s first. Retrieve emergency equipment (see Emergency Equipment belw). Actively flag EMS in rute. Security and whmever is delegated t by Administratin and the ATC; ne designee will flag frm the street and ne will flag adjacently t the venue in sight f each ther. Accept any ther delegatin prvided by ATC r acting lead staff. Rles f First Respnder: 1. Immediate care f the injured r ill student-athlete r staff member a. Life/limb-threatening emergency i. Activatin f emergency medical system (EMS) 1. If pssible, the ATC directs the cach t activate EMS while ATC attends t the cllapsed athlete. 2. Call 9-911 when using an n-campus phne and 911 when using a cell phne (prvide yur name, lcatin, telephne number, number f individuals injured, nature f injury, first aid treatment rendered, specific directins t lcatin, ther infrmatin as requested, and be the last ne t hang up). ii. Perfrm Basic Life Supprt (CPR, Rescue Breathing, AED, First Aid), if necessary, until emergency persnnel arrive.

iii. Assign a member f the medical staff (i.e. Security, Administratr) t meet the ambulance at a designated lcatin. iv. Ntify athletic directr, administratrs, plice fficer and schl nurse at 949-936-8202 (frnt ffice). b. Nn-threatening emergency i. Help the athlete remain calm and prvide reassurance. ii. Prvide First Aid care as necessary. 1. Apply direct pressure n wunds using sterile gauze frm First Aid kit. 2. Stabilize fractures r dislcated jints using splints, elastic bandages and/r sling. 3. D nt prvide fd r water fr injuries requiring hire medical care and/r transprt. 2. Emergency equipment retrieval (see Emergency Equipment belw) When t call 911: An athlete is nt breathing. An athlete has lst cnsciusness. It is suspected that an athlete may have a neck r back injury. An athlete has an pen and cmpund fracture (bne has punctured thrugh the skin). Severe heat exhaustin r suspected heat strke. Severe bleeding that cannt be stpped. Other medical cnditins (i.e. seizure, anaphylaxis, etc.) When directed by the Certified Athletic Trainer r Team Dctr. Saturday Practice: Call Emergency Medical Services at 9-1-1. Ntify AD and ATC. Schl Plice Officer/Security Persnnel The highest persn in the chain f cmmand wh is present at a scene will be the designated persn in charge/leader. This persn is respnsible fr deciding whether r nt t call 911. The AD/Administratr will instruct thers in what they can d t assist. This individual MUST stay with the student athlete until EMS arrives.

Emergency Actin Plan The fllwing teams will be designated per sprt and site. All Caches are respnsible fr meeting with the Athletic Trainer prir t their seasn t review and delineate rles and respnsibilities in an emergency situatin. This is dcumented in the EMERGENCY ACTION PLAN AGREEMENT FORM and the riginal cpy will be kept with the Athletic Trainer in case f an emergency. All parties that are nted will be infrmed and a cpy given t them. Head Caches will keep a cpy with them alng with their Student Athlete Emergency Cards. 911 Team CPR/AED Team AED Team Once the Emergency Actin Plan is activated, the fllwing prtcl MUST be fllwed: 1. The highest persn n the Chain f Cmmand is deemed the leader and will stay with the athlete and administer necessary first aid until the Certified Athletic Trainer arrives. If pssible, smene else n the Chain f Cmmand shuld stay and assist. The Certified Athletic Trainer, administratr and frnt ffice shuld be made aware that there is an emergency situatin n campus if they are nt already present. 2. The highest persn n the Chain f Cmmand will call EMS r will designate the next persn n the Chain f Cmmand t make the call using a cell phne r schl phne. EMS shuld be tld: Type f emergency situatin Type f suspected injury/medical cnditin Current cnditin f the victim Current assistance being given Exact lcatin f emergency Age f the athlete 3. Tell Security Persnnel t meet EMS at the clsest intersectin t aid in directing the ambulance. DO NOT HANG UP UNTIL EMS HANGS UP FIRST. 4. Phnes at are lcated in the main ffice, classrms, caches ffices, the athletic training clinic, nurse s ffice and the frnt lbby. All thse n the Chain f Cmmand shuld have their cell phne with them and charged at all times. 5. The secnd persn accrding t the chain f cmmand will cntact and direct Security Persnnel t all intersectins between where the student athlete is lcated and Prtla High Schl/venue-specific lcatin t direct the ambulance t the athlete. The Security Persnnel shuld stay in psitin and wave the ambulance thrugh the prper turns t get t the student-athlete. 6. Athletic Directr/Administratin will ntify parents. All caches must have their cell phnes with them and charged at all times. In additin, Emergency Cntact Infrmatin Cards shuld be fund with the Head Cach. These cards are t be with them at all times. If a parent is nt present, the frm shuld accmpany the athlete t the hspital. 7. If transprt is deemed necessary, the athlete will be taken t Hag Hspital Irvine lcated at 16200 Sand Canyn, Irvine, CA 92618 r Kaiser Permanente Hspital lcated at 6640 Altn Pkwy, Irvine, CA 92618, unless the parent/s request therwise.
