2 Dear Friends, 9th edition of International Student Petroleum Congress & Career Expo East meets West continued the great idea of this event. From 10th till 12th we ensured a place for an international discussion, knowledge sharing and networking in a friendly atmosphere. For the second time in a row, thanks to SPE International, we hosted the representatives of SPC and PetroBowl contest. It is a privilege to see that you enjoyed these few days with us. This would not have happened without the contribution of our Partners. We would like to send our sincere appreciation to Shell, LOTOS, PGNiG, Orlen Upstream, MOLGROUP, Europol Gaz, Halliburton, Schlumberger, Gaz-system, and city of Cracow. This is a marvellous support and remarkable gesture. We find it really rewarding that so many people participated in the Congress. Next year we are having 10th edition, an anniversary. 5 Opening Ceremony The Official Opening Ceremony began with concert of Con Fouco Orchestra. After amazing performance, we heard speeches of Darcy Spady- President of SPE international, Jean Marc Dumas- Regional Director for South, Central and East Europe, Adam Szurlej PhD (Dean of the Faculty of Drilling, Oil and Gas). Speeches concluded with special thanks to all of the sponsors, that helped to create this event and greeted the students gathered there in a large number. Tuesday 10 / 04 / 2018
6 Innovative solutions in Oil and Gas industry Panel Session The debate was led by PhD Riverson Oppong. Each panelist had very engaging opinion due to the fact that each of them was representing different part of the Industry. The aim of the debate was to show the technical, economical, legal and social point of view on Innovative solutions in Oil and Gas industry. At the end each of the panelists had to share one word to sum up the panel. Passion, impact, fun, update. 7 Official Gala Dinner Traditional Welcome Evening is already a tradition of the EMW. Each year, we invite our guests to share a traditional Polish meal with us in a more unofficial atmosphere, which as we all know allows the friendships across different nationalities to truly blossom. This year, the event was held at Sukiennice in Kompania Kuflowa restaurant. Heart of the main square in Cracow. 8 Career Session One of the most important part during East meets West Congress is Carrier Session. 9 Career Expo East meets West always aimed to enable students from all over the world learn about the latest industry trends, job opportunities and skills necessary in recruitment process. Career Expo is the best place for the partner companies to present their offer and raise their profiles among prospective future employees. For participants it is a perfect opportunity to gain first-hand knowledge about participating companies and increase understanding of Oil & Gas sector. The format of the event allows students and company representatives to have face to face meetings in a professional, yet friendly, atmosphere. 10 Student Paper Contest This year s Student Paper Contest was a part of Regional Qualifier to the World s Contest which is taking part during ATCE. It was always one of the main events of EMW but, thanks to SPE, this year it was especially meaningful. We had 24 outstanding students presenting their researches in three age categories. It was a fantastic platform for sharing ideas through presentations. 12 Student Poster Session Next edition of poster Session during gave to opportunity to share new ideas. Students could present the results of their researches and compete in the contest. All the contestants presented a very high substantive level, they were required to prepare a poster containing the essentials of their work in a concise form that is both easy to comprehend and eye-friendly. They spent some time with judges and the audience next to their posters, ready to discuss and answer in detail any questions they might have. 13 Winners of Student Paper Session 1st place: Rasoul Foroutan (Clausthal University of Technology,Germany) Numerical Analogy of MEOR Wettablility Alteration Calibrated with SI Experiments. 2nd place: Stefano Tagliaferri (Technical University of Denmark) An integrated experimental approach to quantify the oil recovery potential of seawater and low- salinity seawater in North Sea chalk oil reservoirs. 3rd place: Evan Jonathan Gowidjaja (Clausthal University of Technology, Germany) Numerical Simulation of Biosurfactant in Microbial Enhanced Oil Recovery (MEOR) Process. 14 Petrobowl It is a pleasure to host this contest for the second time in a row. Every time there is a lot of emotions during Petrobowl Contest. This year we gathered 19 teams from Europe and Caspian Region and resulted in 5 teams which will represent this region at ATCE in Dallas, Texas. The contest was especially interesting and professional thanks to its moderator: Robert Chlebosz (Orlen Upstream). Contest was evaluated by the following jury panel: Łukasz Klimkowski, PhD (AGH UST); Jean Marc Dumas (PCMC, SPEI) ; Silke Roentzsch, PhD (University of Freiberg); Zoltan Turzo, PhD (University of Miskolc).
