Northmor Ironworks Powerlifting Meet 2016 Dear Coach, Northmor High School would like to take the opportunity to invite your student-athletes to compete in our 2 nd annual powerlifting meet on Saturday January 30th, 2016. Our meet will include Bench, Deadlift, and Squat. Please have your athletes bring their own belts and chalk if they choose to use it. There will be NO lifting aids permitted (wraps, suits, shirts, straps, etc.). Competitors will be allowed to use athletic tape on their wrists with approval from a judge. Locker rooms, t-shirts, and concessions will be available. Anyone in grades 7 through 12 are welcome to compete, with separate junior high and high school divisions, and separate girls divisions. Weigh-ins will be from 8 to 9:15, coaches meeting at 9:40, warm-ups will begin around 9:50, and the meet will begin at 10am. The registration will be $10.00 per lifter. All checks can be made out to Northmor Athletic Boosters. Admission for all spectators will be $2. Awards will be given to the top 6 lifters in each weight class and trophies will be given to the top 3 male teams, and top 2 female teams. The meet will be held at the old Northmor High School gymnasium, at 5353 county road 29, Galion, OH 44833. General Rules For Meet 1. Lifters are to wear shirt, shorts, and athletic shoes. 2. The use of profanity or disrespect toward officials or workers will result in disqualification. 3. Elbow wraps, gloves, bench shirts, ammonia, knee wraps, suits, straps, and baby powder are prohibited. 4. Belts must be provided AND WORN by the individual lifter. 5. Athletes will be given adequate time to warm up before each event. Also, a lifter may warm up during the competition once all lifters are finished with the weight that is on the bar. 6. All lifters must attempt their lift within one minute of their name being called or they will be credited with a miss. If a lifter has to follow themselves, they will be given 3 minutes to recuperate and make their next attempt. 7. After a lifter completes a lift, they must tell the recorder what their next attempt will be. If the lifter fails to give his next attempt before the next lifter begins, the lifter will be credited with a miss. The lifter CANNOT pass. 8. For the team competition, a team will be made up of 12 lifters for the males, and 8 lifters for the females. The four best TOTALS in EACH lightweight, middleweight, and heavyweight male divisions (12 lifters) will be combined to determine the male winner(s). The four best TOTALS from the lightweight and heavyweight female divisions (8 lifters) will be combined to determine the female winner(s). Individual totals can be moved up to a higher division, but they cannot be moved down.
Bench Press Rules 1. The lifter may have help unracking the bar before beginning the lift and help racking the bar once the lifter has locked out both arms (and been given a good lift ). The spotter cannot touch the bar during the lift. 2. The bar must be lowered to touch the chest, without bouncing, then raised back to the lockout position. Any uneven, or unequal, extension of the arms that is deemed a safety risk by the official will result in a miss. 3. The upward motion of the bar can stop, but once it comes back down, the attempt will be disqualified. 4. The lifter s hips and shoulders must stay in contact with the bench. 5. The lifter s feet must stay in contact with the floor. A lifter may put plates under their feet. Squat Rules 1. The judge will give an up call when the lifter has reached a parallel position. 2. The lifter may have help unracking the bar, after which they must come to a stationary position before beginning the lift. The lifter may have help racking the bar after the lifter has completed the lift. The spotter cannot touch the bar or lifter during the lift. 3. The lifter must reach a position in which the knee joint is parallel with the hip joint. 4. There is to be no contact of the elbows or upper arms with the legs. 5. Any double bouncing at the bottom of the lift will result in a miss being declared. 6. The feet must remain relatively stationary once the lifter has assumed a stationary position at the beginning of the lift, and throughout the lift attempt. 7. The lifter must return to an upright position under control. The lifter must rack the weight under control. Deadlift Rules 1. The lifter must raise the bar to an upright position. 2. The knees muse be locked and the shoulders back. 3. The bar can stop moving, but may not start back down. Hitching the bar is not permitted. Leaning back and resting the bar on the thighs is not permitted. 4. The lifter must wear soled shoes. 5. The lifter must weight for the official s command before lowering the weight. The weight must be lowered with both hands on the bar and in a controlled manner.
