Sophomore-Sophomore Detroit, MI (SE- Missouri State ) Combo Guard #30 Thompson, a 6-foot-3, 185-pound guard is from Detroit and graduated from Melvindale High School, and prepped at Progressive Christian Academy in Washington, D.C. before playing as a freshman at SEMO in 2009-10. Thompson was a standout high school player for Melvindale, earning first-team All-State, All-District and All-Conference honors after averaging 25 points, seven rebounds and 11 assists as the Cardinals' top scorer. After graduation from Melvindale, Thompson attended prep school at Progressive Christian Academy, a school that produced eight Division I players and five of the nation's Top-100 prep school players in 2008-09. Thompson led his team in scoring with 27.3 points per game, while averaging 7.9 rebounds and 9.5 assists as a senior. During the 2009-10 season, Thompson played in 29 games, starting four times, for the SEMO RedHawks. He was fifth on the team in scoring, at 8.4 points per game, and was second in three pointers made with 47. When EMU squared off against SEMO, Nov. 24, 2009 in Cape Girardeau, Mo., Thompson scored 15 points off the bench Major: Communications. Point Guard #10 Burton, a 5-foot-8, 175-pound point guard is from Detroit, Michigan and graduated from Detroit Cooley High School. After spending one year at Kankakee Community College he transferred to EMU in the fall of 2009. Burton, who played for coach Rafael Peterson, was a standout high school player for Cooley, who earned All-City Honorable Mention his senior year averaging nearly 24.0 ppg As a junior, Burton averaged 19.0 ppg for the Cardinals. 2010-2011 Newsletter No 1. ~ Page Three ~ Team Community Events ~ EMU Freshman Move-In Day Housing s Magic Helper Program 9.4.2010 ~ Men's Basketball Donates To EMU's "Dig Pink" Effort ~ The Eastern Michigan men's basketball program recently donated $2,500 to the volleyball team's continued effort in the fight against breast cancer. The dreaded disease has certainly had an impact on EMU head men's basketball coach Charles E. Ramsey's family, whose mother in-law, Rochelle Lester, lost her own battle with breast cancer this past year."women touch our lives everyday," mentioned Ramsey. " We all have mothers, wives, sisters or daughters and that is why I thought it was important to support a cause like this." Over the past three years, the Eastern Michigan volleyball program has raised more than $15,000 as part of its annual "Dig Pink" fundraising campaign in support of the Side-Out Foundation. Presenting the check during the Central Michigan-Eastern Michigan football game were Coach Ramsey and student-athletes Brandon Bowdry (St. Louis, Mo.-Taylor (Mich.) Truman), Will Cooper (Detroit, Mich.-Pershing Bridgton (Maine) Academy) and Jay Higgins (Fayetteville, N.C.-IMG Academy-Hillsborough (Fla.) C.C.). Accepting the check on behalf of EMU volleyball and the Side-Out Foundation was Wendy Kivi, a staff member in the EMU Communications, Media & Theatre Arts Department, and also the mother of a former EMU volleyball player and a survivor of breast cancer. EMU will host its annual Dig Pink match Saturday, October 16, first serve @ 7:00 pm versus Bowling Green State.
