The LumberKings trail the all-time series 427-454, dating back to 1962, and trail against Cedar Rapids, 63-76, since the LumberKings became a Seattle Mariners affiliate in 2009. The spilt with Cedar Rapids in their first meeting taking two of four in Cedar Rapids before winning two of three in the two team s second meeting at Ashford University Field. LumberKings Starter: Nick Wells, 21, makes his 13 appearance and start of the season for the Clinton LumberKings. The lefty earned the win in his last start throwing five innings in a 9-5 win over the Peoria Chiefs in Peoria. Wells did allow five runs, on eight hits, while walking none and striking out five but was backed by an offense that slugged three home runs. The Virginia native came to the Seattle Mariners via a trade with the Toronto Blue Jays in 2015. Wells was one of three lefties the Mariners received in exchange for RHP Mark Lowe. He is coming off a rough month of May in which he was 1-4, with a 7.33 ERA, 27 IP, 22 ER, 13 BB, and 19 strikeouts. Left handed hitters have been an issue for Wells this season he comes into this start with lefties hitting.321 against him. This will be his second start against Cedar Rapids his last loss came against the Kernels despite working six innings, Wells allowed five runs on nine hits but walked none while striking out five. Kernels Starter: Eduardo Del Rosario, 22, makes his 13 appearance and start of the season for the Cedar Rapids Kernels. A Dominican native, he was signed as an international free agent by the Minnesota Twins on December 21, 2012. This will be his second start of the year against Clinton. Del Rosario earned the win against the LumberKings in Cedar Rapids on May 25 after working six innings, allowing two runs on three hits while walking three and striking out nine. Anthony Jimenez was the damage in the start hitting a two-run home run. In his last start he earned the win with six innings of work on the road in Burlington he allowed two runs on six hits while walking one and striking out four. Last Time Out: Nick Thurman was the hero for the Clinton Lumberkings in a 4-3 11 inning walk-off win over the Beloit Snappers on Thursday night at Ashford University Field. The LumberKings (30-34) catcher started the scoring with an inside-the-park home run before completing the sweep with Clinton's first walk-off win of the season. Clinton has now won five straight and eight of their last nine, sweeping the Snappers (31-35) for the second time this year. The game settled into a pitcher's duel early on and it was not until a Trace Loehr RBI single to left in the third inning that the game's first run was scored, giving Beloit a 1-0 lead. The LumberKings then took the lead with a three-run bottom of the fifth inning. Thurman lead-off with a fly ball to left that was nearly caught by Snappers left fielder Luke Persico. The ball appeared to be in Perisco's mitt but the left fielder then crashed in the left field wall and dropped the ball. He was unable to rise to his feet allowing Thurman to circle the bases for his first professional career inside-the-park home run, and his third home run of the season. Inside the parker: Nick Thurman has sais the reason for him choosing the position of catcher was to avoid running. He had run around all the bases with the LumberKings first hit of the game on Thursday, an inside the park home run, his first of his professional career. At Last: It took until the mid-point in June but the LumberKings finally scored their first extra inning run in their first walk-off win of the season on Thursday night. Nick Thurman floated a single down the left field line for the game winner. Last year, Clinton had 10 walk-off wins. Five and Counting: The Clinton LumberKings are playing their best baseball of the season as the first half winds to a close. Winners of five straight, their longest winning streak of the year and longest in the active streak in the League, the LumberKings have also won three straight series for the first time this season. Over their last nine games the LumberKings have won eight. Morales Streaking: Jhombeyker Morales extended his hitting streak to 13 games, the longest by a LumberKing this season. The streak which started on May 12 has survived one of his stints on the disabled list. During the streak, he is batting.320 (16-50). All-Stars: The Clinton LumberKings will be a well-represented team at this year s Midwest League All- Star game in Midland Michigan. The coaching staff consisting of, Manager Pat Shine, Hitting Coach David Flores, Coach James Lofton, and Video Coordinator Tyler Collins, will be coaching for the Western All-Stars. They will be joined by LHP Danny Garcia, RHP Robert Dugger, RHP Brandon Miller, and OF Anthony Jimenez who have been named to the All-Star team. The four players selected to the ASG make 181 all-stars in franchise history going back to the Midwest League s first all-star game in 1964. This date in baseball history: On this date in 1978, Reds' right-hander Tom Seaver no-hits the Cardinals at Riverfront Stadium, 4-0. The gem is Tom Terrific's first no-no after taking a hitless game into the ninth inning three times during the first 12 years of his career.
