Miracle fend off Marauders in 4-3 win to sweep series The Miracle built a 4-0 lead midway through Monday night s game with the Bradenton Marauders and held off a late surge to earn a quick two-game sweep at McKechnie Field. Starter Keaton Steele delivered his fourth straight quality start with six innings of work allowing two runs on five hits, one walk and five strikeouts. Nick Gordon and Daniel Kihle both had multi-hit games for the offense and Gordon drove in his 50th RBI of the season. Tanner Witt picked up a pair RBI with a double and the Miracle bullpen staved off a late Marauder rally. Randy Rosario gave up one one, but Nick Anderson recorded his fifth save of the season. Navarreto s struggles at the plate has not affected defense On Thursday night, Charlotte s Grant Kay attempted to swipe a bag in the top of the fourth inning. Miracle catcher Brian Navarreto gunned down Kay with a perfect throw that drifted into the mitt of shortstop Nick Gordon at the second base bag for an easy tag out of Kay. Navarreto has now thrown out 51 percent of attempted base stealers and is honing in on his third consecutive year with an over 50 percent success rate. Brian nabbed 59 percent in 2015 and 56 percent in 2014. Despite hovering around the Mendoza line for most of the season, Navarreto has been the catcher of record in 28 of Fort Myers 58 wins while working with top propsects Kohl Stewart, Stephen Gonsalves, Tyler Jay, Felix Jorge, Randy Rosario, Yorman Landa and Fernando Romero. Paul packs a power punch after long dry spell 363 days. That was the amount of time Chris Paul had to wait to between professional home runs. Entering Friday night s series opener with the Charlotte Stone Crabs, Paul s last long ball was on August 8, 2015 in the third inning as a member of the Elizabethton Twins against the Bluefield Blue Jays. After finding his power stroke on Friday, Paul cranked another home run, a solo blast, in Sunday s 2-1 loss to the Charlotte Stone Crabs. Chris now has five homers in his career. Paul was placed on the disabled list on August 16. Gordon wraps up impressive July with 20 RBI In the fourth month of the season, 20-year old and Twins No. 5 prospect Nick Gordon put together his most impressive section of the season. Gordon appeared in 27 games and gone 37-for-112 (.330) with seven extra-base hits and 20 RBI after driving in nine in April, eight in May and only six in June. Gordon s on-base percentage for July was.359 and he has struck out just 15 times in 112 at-bats. Gordon continued his good play into August with 15 hits in 12 games and leads the team with 32 multi-hit games while pushing his overall average up to.303; 4th in the FSL.
