I hope you have all had an enjoyable Rotary year as I have, and look forward to President-Elect Bhavana s year in 2015/16. Thank You, Kevin Delaney DID YOU KNOW? The first theme was announced in 1953 with RI President Joaquin Serratose Cibils Rotary is Hope in Action. In 1962 RI President Nitish Laharry also introduced an image to go with his theme of Kindle the Spark Within (very similar to this year?), and every year since we have had a theme and an image. This Week Although we were scheduled for a Speed Dating night a lot of club members obviously had better offers, as we had a large number of apologies. As a result, we decided on a quick meeting, and Chairman John Weir dusted off his best long jokes to fill in the time for us. Brant Duff has volunteered to do the International Toast next week to the RC Port Vila which he visited last week. And couldn t remember anything about. Thanks to Group 5 AG Geoff Campbell for sending through this image of our YEP student Lethan Mann at the YEP student interviews last weekend in Gladstone. Rod and Sue interviewed the first of our NYSF candidates this afternoon Tim Harris from Shalom. There is one more student to be interviewed tomorrow before the Board decides on sponsorship. The National Youth Science Forum will be held next January in Canberra for 2 weeks. Lethan is pictured with his grandparents Trevor and Linda Mann. The Bundaberg Health Services Foundation has invited members of our club to attend their annual Winnie May Scholarship Awards on Sat June 27 at the Canefire Room, Spotted Dog Tavern, 6-7:30pm. Tickets are $20pp. Please RSVP by June 20 to Maria Burnet on 4150 2863 if you would like to attend. Vince Habermann reminded the club that the Relay For Life was on again on Sat Aug 15 and asked whether the club would be interested in putting a team in to the Relay. Our club used to have a team at least 5 years ago anyone prepared to take up the challenge and organise club members? Happy Birthday wishes from our club members to Jean Gahan, who will be celebrating a very special day next Monday.
In the absence of an International Toast at this week s meeting, I have decided to toast the RC of São Paulo in Brazil in honour of RICON 15 which has just ended in Sao Paulo. Join our conversation... Rotary Anthem Mighty Union Glorious Band, Rotary is in our hands Friendship, service, liberty all are found in Rotary Ours the joy to be the best, Service above self is our test Let every person say with zest long live the days of Rotary. In District 4610, the RC São Paulo was chartered in 1925, and meets Fridays at 12:45pm at the Main Hall of the Rotary Building on the 5th floor of Av Hiegienópolis, 996. It currently has around 160 members, is a mixed club, and was the second club to be founded in Brazil. The club has chartered 17 other Rotary clubs and sponsors 3 Rotaract and 2 Interact clubs. Each year they hold a Christmas Party for 200 Children in the Oncology and Children s Orthopedics Ward at the Santa Casa de Misericordia de São Paulo. They also support a project to provide activities and workshops to Seniors in their community Movimento Pró-Idoso, which is supported by the Dept of Social Assistance. São Paulo is the capital of Brazil and has hosted a RI Convention twice previously. Next year the Convention will be held in Seoul, Sth Korea.
