The Vista Helping our community, doing good in the world 2014/15 Club President Kev Delaney Hi All, R I President Gary Huang Rotary Club of Taipei, Taiwan District Governor Craig Edmonston Rotary Club of Yeppoon We enjoyed another Fellowship night this week, and judging by the amount of conversation going on, it was a successful meeting. I only have a couple of weeks left as your President, but we still have a few more activities to complete the NYSF interviews which are being held this week, our last Board meeting on June 22, and the election on June 23 of our President Nominee. I hope you have all had an enjoyable Rotary year as I have, and look forward to President-Elect Bhavana s year in 2015/16. Thank You, Kevin Delaney DID YOU KNOW? Rotary History Annual themes Each year the RI President-Elect announces the theme of their upcoming year, but it wasn t always a feature of the Rotary year. The first theme was announced in 1953 with RI President Joaquin Serratose Cibils Rotary is Hope in Action. In 1962 RI President Nitish Laharry also introduced an image to go with his theme of Kindle the Spark Within (very similar to this year?), and every year since we have had a theme and an image. Next year s theme will be announced at San Diego in January 2016. Next Week: Guest Speaker Acting Insp Grant Marcus, Bundaberg Police.

Club Notices ROTARY FELLOWSHIPS Rotary Fellowships are groups of Rotary members who: Share a common interest in recreational activities, sports, hobbies, or professions Further their vocational development with others in the same profession or field Enhance their Rotary experience by exploring new opportunities and making connections around the world Our next book sale is only 6 weeks away. Mark the dates in your diary! Sue is looking for a club member to organise a Rotary Raffle for the book sale to raise extra funds. See her if you can help, or have items to donate. Thanks to Cathy Zanella for volunteering to organise the catering committee for the next Book Sale. There are Rotary Fellowships for Beer, Caravanning, Cooking, Cruising, Golf, Italian culture, Photographers, Photographers and of course Ross, Wine. You can even start a new Fellowship by contact RI staff at rotaryfellowships@rotary.org to learn how you can start a Rotary Fellowship.

This Week Although we were scheduled for a Speed Dating night a lot of club members obviously had better offers, as we had a large number of apologies. As a result, we decided on a quick meeting, and Chairman John Weir dusted off his best long jokes to fill in the time for us. Brant Duff has volunteered to do the International Toast next week to the RC Port Vila which he visited last week. And couldn t remember anything about. Thanks to Group 5 AG Geoff Campbell for sending through this image of our YEP student Lethan Mann at the YEP student interviews last weekend in Gladstone. Rod and Sue interviewed the first of our NYSF candidates this afternoon Tim Harris from Shalom. There is one more student to be interviewed tomorrow before the Board decides on sponsorship. The National Youth Science Forum will be held next January in Canberra for 2 weeks. Lethan is pictured with his grandparents Trevor and Linda Mann. The Bundaberg Health Services Foundation has invited members of our club to attend their annual Winnie May Scholarship Awards on Sat June 27 at the Canefire Room, Spotted Dog Tavern, 6-7:30pm. Tickets are $20pp. Please RSVP by June 20 to Maria Burnet on 4150 2863 if you would like to attend. Vince Habermann reminded the club that the Relay For Life was on again on Sat Aug 15 and asked whether the club would be interested in putting a team in to the Relay. Our club used to have a team at least 5 years ago anyone prepared to take up the challenge and organise club members? Happy Birthday wishes from our club members to Jean Gahan, who will be celebrating a very special day next Monday.

In the absence of an International Toast at this week s meeting, I have decided to toast the RC of São Paulo in Brazil in honour of RICON 15 which has just ended in Sao Paulo. Join our conversation... Rotary Anthem Mighty Union Glorious Band, Rotary is in our hands Friendship, service, liberty all are found in Rotary Ours the joy to be the best, Service above self is our test Let every person say with zest long live the days of Rotary. In District 4610, the RC São Paulo was chartered in 1925, and meets Fridays at 12:45pm at the Main Hall of the Rotary Building on the 5th floor of Av Hiegienópolis, 996. It currently has around 160 members, is a mixed club, and was the second club to be founded in Brazil. The club has chartered 17 other Rotary clubs and sponsors 3 Rotaract and 2 Interact clubs. Each year they hold a Christmas Party for 200 Children in the Oncology and Children s Orthopedics Ward at the Santa Casa de Misericordia de São Paulo. They also support a project to provide activities and workshops to Seniors in their community Movimento Pró-Idoso, which is supported by the Dept of Social Assistance. São Paulo is the capital of Brazil and has hosted a RI Convention twice previously. Next year the Convention will be held in Seoul, Sth Korea.
