Sept. 15 1 p.m. Betty Lou Mays Soccer Field (Waco, TX) Series Record: BAY leads 5-0 The McNeese soccer team (5-1-0) hits the road for the first time this season when the Cowgirl travel to take on a pair of Texas teams in North Texas on Friday, Sept. 13 at 7 p.m. and No. 7 Baylor at 1 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 15. The Mean Green (4-2-0) pitched back-to-back shutouts in their last two outings against Sam Houston State, 3-0 and TCU, 2-0. The Bears (5-0-1) recently tied with No. 17 Texas A&M, 0-0 in 2OT in College Station. Friday s match will be the third meeting with North Texas who leads the series, 2-0. The Cowgirls played North Texas in their first two season s in 1996 and 1997. Sunday s game with Baylor will be the sixth meeting between the teams with the Bears holding a 5-0 series lead. McNeese dropped last season s meeting in Waco, 5-0. The Bears have not allowed a McNeese goal to score in all five meetings. Scouting the Mean Green North Texas owns a 4-2 record to open the season, including a 2-0 win at Texas Christian over the weekend. The Mean Green have been led by Rachel Holden with six goals, while Vanessa Ibewuike has two tallies and two assists along with Karla Pineda who has one goal and five assists. North Texas has scored 108goals in six matches. The Mean Green is coached by John Hedlund and are coming off a 16-5-2 record that led them to a Sun Belt Conference tournament title a year ago. Scouting the Bears Baylor enters the weekend with a 5-0-1 overall record with victories over Washington, Southern Methodist and Missouri. The lone tie was a 0-0 ledger at Texas A&M. The Bears have scored 15 goals in six matches, including four from Ashley York, three from Natalie Huggins and two goals along with three assists from Bri Campos. Last Time Out The Cowgirls are out to their best start in program history after defeating Texas State and Louisiana Tech this past weekend. Junior Tori Lasiter scored her third straight game winning goal in a 2-1 victory in two overtimes over Texas State while junior transfer Jordan Beasley scored two goals to lift the Cowgirls over Louisiana Tech and improve to 5-1 on the season. Reaching the Century Mark Scooter Savoie scored his 100th career win on Sept. 1 when McNeese defeated Louisiana- Monroe, 1-0. Savoie, who is in his 15th season as Cowgirl head coach, started the soccer program in 1996, and has coached all but three years with the McNeese. Savoie led the program to its first regular season title in 2007 and won the program s first Southland Conference tournament championship in 2006, advancing to the NCAA tournament. He also has led his team to 11 conference tournaments, which ranks third among current Southland members. Cowgirls Ranked in the SLC Nine Cowgirls are ranked in different categories in the Southland Conference. Among those are junior Tori Lasiter who ranks first with three three game-winning goals and is tied for fourth with three goals. Senior Callie Allbright ranks fourth with three assists while junior Haley Lyons is tied for eighth with three goals. Sophomore goalie Maggie Marks ranks tied for second with one shutout and is in the top five in GAA (4th), Save pct. (T-4th) and shutouts/game (2nd). The team also ranks first in Goals (21), Shots (99) and second in Assists (14) and Points (56). McNeese vs. Conference USA The Cowgirls are 6-16-3 all-time against current members of the C-USA. McNeese is 0-1 vs. Colorado College, 0-1 vs. Florida Atlantic, 2-3 vs. Louisiana Tech, 0-2 vs. North Texas, 0-2-1 vs. Rice, 0-3 vs Southern Miss, 4-1-2 vs. UTSA, 0-2 vs. UTEP and 0-1 vs. Tulsa. McNeese vs. Big 12 The Cowgirls are 0-12-0 all-time against current members of the Big 12. McNeese is 0-5 vs. Baylor, 0-1 vs. Oklahoma, 0-5 vs. Oklahoma State and 0-1 vs. Texas Christian. Lasiter Picking Up the Offense Junior Tori Lasiter entered her junior season with three career points, all from her freshman year. She hit a bit of a sophomore slump in 2012, as she could not manage to find the back of the net. Just six games into her junior season, however, Lasiter has been McNeese s most consistent offensive weapon. She currently leads the team in points (eight), goals (four), and shots (13) along with three-straight game winning goals. Spreading the Wealth Through McNeese s first six matches, 14 different Cowgirls have earned at least one point. Junior Tori Lasiter leads the pack with 8 points (4 goals) while junior Haley Lyons sits in second place with seven points (3 goals, 1 assist). 10 different Cowgirls have scored a goal while 10 different players have recorded an assist. Additionally, McNeese has seven different players with at least two goals (Tori Lasiter, Jordan Beasley, Haley Lyons, Kayla Goedicke, Amanda Denton, Krista Steinbesier and Savannah LaRicci). Seven Different Cowgirls Lead SLC with Two or More Goals Scored. Seven McNeese soccer players have scored two or more goals this season, which leads the Southland Conference. Tori Lasiter, Jordan Beasley, Haley Lyons, Kayla Goedicke, Amanda Denton, Krista Steinbesier and Savannah LaRicci each have at least two goals on the season. The only season that McNeese did not play at Cowgirl Field was in 2005 when the team had to move to the Ward 3 Sports Complex in Lake Charles due to Hurrican Rita. The longest home undefeated streak came in 2006-2009 when the Cowgirls went 16 straight games without a loss compiling a 13-0-2 record. McNeese Plays Host to 2013 Southland Conference Soccer Tournament The Southland Conference has selected McNeese State to host the conference soccer tournament for a second straight year. Matches will take place on November 7-8 with the championship game slated to be played on November 10. Next Up The Cowgirls open up Southland Conference play when they travel to take on Nicholls State on Friday, Sept. 20 at 4 p.m. before they come back home to face Southeastern Louisiana on Sunday, Sept. 22 in 1 p.m. matchup.

SCOOTER SAVOIE Head Coach 15th McNeese State, 1992 2007 SLC COACH OF THE YEAR 2006 LOUISIANA COACH OF THE YEAR Scooter Savoie is in his 15th season as head coach of the Cowgirls. Savoie continues to brings the vision, motivation, hard work and respect a program needs to be successful. He guided McNeese to the program s first regular season title in 2007 and won the program s first Southland Conference Tournament Championship in 2006, advancing to the NCAA Tournament for the first time in school history. Savoie has guided the McNeese program to three of the last five Southland Conference Tournament title games. Savoie will once again have that opportunity to win a Southland Conference Tournament Championship this season as McNeese will host the tournament which will take place Nov. 7-10. Success is not something new to Savoie and McNeese soccer. His Cowgirls have consistently attracted some of the top talent in the Southland Conference. Benefiting from developing young and talented players under his direction, McNeese has qualified for nine Southland Conference Tournaments under his direction. Savoie was named the program s first coach in 1996. His teams improved each season during his tenure through 1999. McNeese posted an overall winning record in conference play during that time. He guided the program to three consecutive Southland Conference Tournament appearances, leading his 1999 team to a second place finish in the league s regular season. Since then, McNeese has returned to the Southland Conference Tournament in six of the last nine seasons and has played in the championship game three of the last six years. Savoie was named the 2007 Southland Conference Coach of the Year and Louisiana Coach of the Year in 2006. Savoie is the program s winningest coach with 102 career victories, but the accolades for success do not stop here. Savoie has coached 51 All-Conference performers including the 2008 (Kamryn Koch) and 1999 (Joy Keating) SLC Players of the Year. Koch is also a two-time SLC Student-Athlete of the Year (2007, 2008), two-time Louisiana Player of the Year (2007, 2008) and McNeese State s Athlete of the Year for the 2008-09 season. Savoie continues to coach the the 2010 Louisiana Freshman of the Year in Johna Germany. Savoie also coached Alana Clark, the 2007 Louisiana Freshman of the Year. Nineteen players have made the SLC All-Tournament Team during Savoie s tenure. The program led the league with five All-Tournament selections in 2006 and Koch garnered Tournament MVP honors that year. McNeese has had 17 All-Louisiana selections with Savoie at the helm. Program success is not just limited to the soccer field. McNeese Soccer led the Southland Conference in 2006 with five student-athletes selected to the All-Academic Team. Several of his players have earned Southland Conference Academic Honors and many have been named to McNeese s President s List. In 2008, Koch was named to the NSCAA scholar All- America Team, the only McNeese soccer player to receive the honor. Savoie is well respected in the university and soccer communities. He is proud to serve both in various capacities. He is in his seventh year as the Chair of Southland Conference Women s Soccer Coaches. He was a member of the McNeese Committee on Graduation Rates for Black Student Athletes and was a member of the NCAA Certification Peer Review Team, Safety and Wellness Committee. He is an active member of the NSCAA National Ranking Committee. He has also served on the coaching staff of the Louisiana Olympic and the Arizona Olympic Development Programs. Savoie earned his B.S. Degree from McNeese in 1992 and Master in Education from Texas A&M University in 1997. He is happily married to the former Stephanie Byrge of Tucson, Arizona.
