The second-highest crowd in school history, 6,170 people, attended the meet to cheer on the Tigers and support breast cancer awarenes. Last season marked the inaugural Etta James Memorial Meet. The meet was phenomenal as the Baton Rouge community helped rasie $30,950 for Foundation56. An LSU home meet record of 7,717 fans attended the meet to show their support and cheer on the Tigers. TWO TIGERS EARN SEC GYMNAST OF THE WEEK HONORS Ashleigh Clare-Kearney was named the SEC Gymnast of the Week for the sixth time in her career on Feb. 10 for her performance against Florida. Clare-Kearney sealed the win with a 9.975 on floor, the final performance of the night. Susan Jackson earned the first SEC Gymnast of the Week honor of her career with a spectacular 39.700 all-around performance againt NC State. Her total marked the highest of the week of any SEC competitor as she scored a 9.90 or higher on all four events including a career-best 9.95 on beam and season highs on bars (9.925) and floor (9.925). She also won four individual titles. GLORIA JOHNSON - SEC FRESHMAN OF THE WEEK TWICE Gloria Johnson earned SEC Freshman of the Week honors for the second straight week on Feb. 24 as she recorded the best meet of her young career in the tri-meet against Illinois-Chicago and North Carolina. Johnson tallied two 9.90 s and captured her first individual title at LSU. Johnson won the vault title with a 9.90 and also scored a 9.90 on floor. Johnson earned her first SEC honor a week earlier on Feb. 17 after setting a career-high with a 9.825 on beam to lead the Tigers to victory over Alabama. A WIN FOR THE AGES LSU captured a historic win by beating Alabama in Tuscaloosa, 196.625-195.750, on Feb. 13. It marked only the second time in the 35 years of the program s history that LSU has beaten Alabama in its home arena. The first victory at Alabama came back in 1976, two seasons before head coach D-D Breaux took over the program, so the win this season marked the first time in Breaux s career that she has defeated the Crimson Tide on the Capstone. RECORD CROWDS AGAINST NC STATE AND GEORGIA A home opener record crowd of 4,369 witnessed the LSU-UGA meet last Friday, a number that ranks third all time on the career top attendance list for the program. It marked the first time since the 2004 home opener against Alabama (4,170) that more than 4,000 fans filled the PMAC for the first home meet of the season. Against NC State in the Second Annual Etta James Memorial Meet, 6,170 fans packed into the PMAC to watch the Tigers trounce the Wolfpack.
