Green's Comets finished the year as Western Conference regular season champions with a 47-20-0-9 (.678%) record. In his inaugural season, 2013-14, he pioneered the squad to a 35-32-5-4 (0.519%) record and narrowly missed out on a playoff berth. He was named the first head coach in Comets history on July 11, 2013. Prior to joining the Comets, Green spent four seasons with the Portland Winterhawks of the Western Hockey. The Castlegar, BC native was originally hired by the Winterhawks as assistant coach and assistant general manager for the 2009-10 season. In November of 2012, Green was named interim head coach following the suspension of Mike Johnston (now the head coach of the Pittsburgh Penguins). Under Green's tutelage, the Winterhawks compiled a 37-8-0-2 record and captured the WHL Championship. The Green-led Winterhawks ultimately fell to the Halifax Mooseheads in the Memorial Cup Finals. During his playing career, Green spent a little more than two seasons apprenticing in the American Hockey, all with the Capital District Islanders. Green is one of three current AHL head coaches that played together with the Capital District Islanders in 1990-91 (Dean Chynoweth - Lake Erie/ Derek Laxdal - Texas). Green graduated to the NHL after 20 games in the 1992-93 season and went on to play nearly 1,000 NHL games with the New York Islanders, Mighty Ducks of Anaheim, Phoenix Coyotes, Toronto Maple Leafs and Boston Bruins, and tallied 193 goals and 455 total points. Green s best season was the 1995-96 campaign with the Islanders, when he notched career-highs of 25 goals, 45 assists and 70 total points, along with 14 power-play goals. He had 23 goals and 64 points the following season, and matched his career-high with 25 goals during the 1999-00 season with the Phoenix Coyotes. He finished his playing career in Switzerland, where he had nine goals and 20 points for EV Zug in the 2007-08 season. Green was taken 23rd overall by the New York Islanders in the 1989 NHL Entry Draft after scoring 51 goals for the WHL's Spokane Chiefs. He returned for one last season of junior hockey and combined for 60 goals with the Chiefs and the Medicine Hat Tigers.
