1 st by 3-year-olds and up, claiming price $6,250, Five Furlongs Edwin Maldonado Top Recent Equibase Speed Figure at this distance: Four Gaels 1. Four Gaels - All the work since the February claim has come going 870 yards under the lights here and he's come away with a pair of scores and two seconds from five tries; last try over the big oval came in December when he was a close 3rd ; best puts him in picture. 2. Mason B - Joined forces with this pilot two weeks ago on the smaller night oval and blew away his rivals at a juicy 14-1; facing a tougher task now and has been off the board in all 4 attempts on this mile layout, but last shows he's headed in the right direction. 3. Bound for Heaven - The only two-time winner over this daytime layout with the most recent coming two back in coastto-coast fashion to close out the summer stand; Martinez will have him right on top of the action from the get-go, but he'll have to dig deep to get the job done. 4. Luckarack - Long-fused veteran knows how to find the winner's circle and it should be noted that in both of his starts over this mile track, he's faced much better company; if more than a couple of these decide to get carried away up front, he will come calling when it counts with Maldonado. 5. Changing Karma - Tough times for this gelding since he posted a 12-1 upset back in February at Santa Anita; chased home a sharp runner and a past classer when 3rd here at the summer stand and then played the role of bystander in a pair of Del Mar outings; owns a win from 9 attempts over this mile layout. 6. Land of the Free - Picked up the place money behind a return victor when last seen here in mid-july; shows a couple of wins for Hernandez here on the night course, surging at crunch time to prevail on those occasions; nicely drawn for a tracking journey and must be considered. 6. Right to the Point - By far the most experienced here making 8th start; has tried a bit of everything, short and long, dirt and turf, and has made some menacing noises; a solid show finish the only time she raced over this track she calls home and should appreciate the return to a dirt sprint. 2. Silic s Angel - Both of her outings have come at the bottom level, with improved speed flashed in the most recent before weakening; another who does her training over this layout and will have to do better. 3. Tribal Finale - Brief interest before giving way in the late July debut at Del Mar, now she drops into claiming company which has proven to be a very profitable move by the Puype barn; no surprise to see this gal make her presence felt with Elliott trying his ha 4. Twenty One Coil St - The only new face in the cast; sire is 5-for-33 with beginners while this is the first to the races for the dam, who won twice from 10 starts for 117K as a racemare; modest San Luis Rey works showing. 5. Privy -Was hammered at the windows in both her starts, battled up top in both those outings and could not quite keep it going at crunch time; finds a very cozy spot today and Sadler trainee could prove an elusive target as she's re-united with Roman. 6. Ruled by Girls - Like Tribal Finale, she exits that state-bred affair captured by Beau Square down at the seaside; beat that rival handily that day despite an awkward start, is nicely drawn under veteran Pedroza and looms large at the course where she resides for Sherman. 5. 3 rd by 3-year-olds and up, maiden special weight, Six Furlongs Jay Em Ess Stable Top Recent Equibase Speed Figure at this distance: Psychedilicat & Mr Vargas 1. Bardstown - New York-bred has been on the sidelines for 4 years; the chalk in that long-ago debut at Del Mar and put in a good run for 2nd that day; Hess can bring them back ready, he doesn't have to work them fast to accomplish it and he employs his main man Desormeaux. 2. Mr Vargas - Have to like the way this speedster has upped his game with each appearance; following two good tries at Gulfstream, he joined the Koriner barn at Del Mar and lost a tough on over the lawn while battling every step of the way; definitely the one to catch with Roman back at the controls. 3. Psychedilicat - Making 9th stab at the brass ring for King Jerry and has faced some quality runners along the way; has had to settle for nibbles, including a show finish in his debut last December over this strip; turned in a local bullet 3 furlongs since returning from Del Mar. 4. Papa Jazz - One of 2 for Baffert and the only new face in the line-up; he fetched 475K as a yearling; Scat Daddy is a strong debut sire while the dam was 2-for-4 for 58K in her racing days and this is a half-brother to 205K earner Portmasec; should be more than fit with three straight 6-furlong drills showing at the seaside 5. Captain Walker - All three starts have been in claiming company, the last two following a year layoff; stretched out to a mile of Del Mar green for the most recent and and faltered after forcing the issue to the stretch; looking in other directions. 6. Zipman - The other Baffert; took some money when debuting in that same grass dash down south as Mr Vargas, but wasn't nearly as motivated in the early stages and came belatedly for a minor award; every right to move forward with that effort under his belt, more distance to work with and Bejarano back at the helm from a cozy slot. 2. 4 th by 3-year-olds and up, fillies and mares, starter allowance, Five and One-Half Furlongs Sally Rivera Top Recent Equibase Speed Figure at this distance: Rockantharos & Foxy Lover 1. Ryderroo - Hard to get excited about the last couple, although she was facing the boys in that starter affair two back; does have a win from 3 tries over this mile track and the most recent snapshot followed one of those 870 affairs here under the lights in April; has to pick up her game to reach today. 2. Aiming Straight - Looks like she's clearly the one to catch with Martinez; a punctual favorite two back going 870 on the smaller track, then hooked some tough ones in that stakes try over that distance just a week ago; they figure to be looking at her from behind turning for home and she may very well keep going 3. Southern Darling - Suffering through a lengthy dry spell and just hasn't been making any impact while facing softer company than she lines up against today; difficult to endorse. 4. Scathing - Shortened up to a sprint for the Del Mar finale and surged right on the money to get the cheese under new best friend Gonzalez; only start over this layout she showed speed under pressure while routing and gave way; last shows that she's feeling good now and Cerin trainee must be respected right back. 5. Foxy Lover - Northern California invader is the winningest member of the cast with her 8 pictures and shows two solid runner-up efforts at Pleasanton and Santa Rosa following the June claim; should be sitting a nice tracking trip under Garcia and looms a major player in her first attempt over this layout. 6. Rockantharos - Got going a bit too late in the most recent down at the seaside and had to be happy with a show check behind today's rival Scatching; last start over this mile track resulted in a good off-the-pace win vs. easier during the summer session under this apprentice; helps make things interesting. 2. Journeyonthemove - Trailed when returning to turf five weeks ago, but could bounce back with the return to the track on which she won a restricted claimer as the 6-5 favorite during the Summer Thoroughbred Festival in July. Mysteriousmagician - Shows up tagged for the first time after pressing the issue and fading going shorter distance two weeks ago at Golden Gate Fields. Bullet work over this track as he stretches beyond six furlongs for the first time in her career and could get brave vs. this lesser company under apprentice who led the jockey standings during the July meet. 2. Curlina Curlina - Homebred with 16 defeats makes first appearance since finishing fifth of seven when 5-2 at this level nearly two months ago. Well clear when runner-up behind eventual repeater Adaptability two starts ago, Can share, but tough to take on the win end. 3. Princess Nicole - Chased eventual repeater Online Request in best effort yet when second at 11-1 nearly for months ago. Finished 5 1/2 lengths clear of Curlina Curlina that day, but will have to deal with quicker fractions this time. Dangerous if able to duplicate last, but siding against. 4. Amaranta - Split field for this price tag 23 days ago and returns to track on which she was second as the favorite July 16. Worked a bullet half mile for productive stable four mornings ago and has to be considered a contender under her regular rider. 5. Riverka - Far back when 67-1 in same race Amaranta exits.
