PE Update - July 2016 Boys Cricket Y7, Y9 and Y10 The format for the school cricket teams has been changed this year to allow for more cricket time for the cricketers. Y7 have played in a league format winning against Millthorpe in a very close game 76 for 8, 75 for 9. The school has then entered a first 11 into the Y10 cup and a second 11 into the Y9 league. If players are good enough for the first team in Y7 then they will play and that is what happened on a number of occasions this summer. The First team lost to a very strong Bootham side and the Second team have had a mixed year so far losing narrowly to Millthorpe and drawing their match against Manor school. A special mention must go to the following Y7 students who have contributed massively to all teams, Finn Baqai, Sam Bristowe, James Crichton. Finn Baqai has also represented North Yorkshire this year, an accolade he should be very proud of. Other mentions this year should go to Harry Paver for helping out at practices, Ed Hammond for his maturity and leadership qualities with the younger age groups and Tommy Shaw for his unrelenting enthusiasm in all that he does! Girls Rounders This summer Fulford have competed in over 20 rounders fixtures with teams from Year 7/8/9 & 10. We also have around 80 girls attending training each week which is incredibly impressive! This commitment and dedication to training has resulted in some fantastic results including wins against AHS/Manor and The Mount.
Year 7 Rounders Tournament - Monday 27 th June @ AHS On Monday 27 th June the Year 7 rounders team represented Fulford in the annual rounders tournament at Archbishop Holgates. They finished second in the group and progressed through to the top group after beating AHS and Canon Lee. In the second round the girls were put to the test and rose to the challenge by beating Huntington comfortably. However a narrow defeat to Bootham and Manor saw the girls finish in a fantastic 3 rd position. Well done to all the girls that competed, particular mention to Izzy Rogerson for her incredible batting skills!

The Year 10 rounders team competed in their last ever tournament this year at Joseph Rowntree. The standard of rounders on the evening was very high with some very strong batting performances from all teams. The girls got off to a great start beating Canon Lee convincingly however struggled in the next two matches against strong teams from All Saints and Manor. Our fielding performance and bowling skills from Charlotte Middleton were incredibly strong against a very good Jo Ro team, conceding only 1.5 rounders. The girls went in to their final game full of spirits and confidence which resulted in a comfortable win against Huntington. Overall the girls finished in an impressive joint third place! A fantastic final competitive fixture for the girls who have been committed and enthusiastic since Year 7. Athletics This has once again been a very impressive and successful year for our school Athletes. After hosting the first round of the area athletics at Fulford School back in early June, the Y7 and Y8 athletes who came in the top 3 in their respective events qualified for the semi final stage of the York schools athletics champs at York University. They were joined by Y9 and Y10 athletes at this stage and Fulford did extremely well considering there were almost 400 athletes taking part in the meeting. The final took place on Tuesday 5 th July and proved to be a fruitful afternoon for our athletes who had a number of successes during the meeting. This is the pinnacle of school athletics and we wish Amy every success in her event of the long jump. Badminton Seven Y9 Fulford students (listed below) turned out at the Yorkshire Badminton Bonanza at York Railway Institute on 26 th June. This was for children who had not played badminton at county level before and gave them some experience of playing in a purpose built badminton hall and playing against other similar aged children from the county. Starting at 10am the students played matches against others in a group stage where they then went through to play the equivalent placed player in the opposite group.
They played some fantastic badminton and had some good competition from other players in Yorkshire. It was the first time they had competed outside of school and considering we have only had the badminton club and sports hall since Easter they were a real credit. Josh Bailey Abdulla Khadim Owen Formstone Luke Falgate Omid Gohardani Chris Lewis Hannah Sumners - A special mention for Hannah because she was the only girl and had some very tough opponents!
