Rules fr Mrtal Kmbat X BRACKET SEEDING All players in the turnament will be seeded based n Sri Lanka esprts Assciatin (SLeSA) Rankings which are determined by the perfrmance displayed by players in previus Gamer.LK Ranked Turnaments. This increases the likelihd that players wh perfrmed better in previus turnaments nt t meet each ther early in the bracket. MATCH PLAY These rules will be in effect while a single Match in the turnament is been played. If yu are playing in a GLK-Ranked turnament, be sure t study this sectin carefully, especially if yu have n prir turnament experience. CHOOSING SIDES When bth players are at the game cnsle, they must cme t an agreement which side f the machine they will play n (wh will sit n 1p and wh will sit n 2p) If an agreement cannt be reached, a cin tss will determine wh gets t pick their side. But it is advised t cme t a friendly cnclusin t avid cnflicts. CHOOSING CHARACTERS AND STAGE There are 3 methds fr chsing characters. 1. Standard Selectin 2. Duble Blind Selectin 3. Side and Character Curtesy
If the players d nt discuss the methd f character selectin, it shuld be understd that the Standard methd is being used. If the players cannt cme t an agreement n the methd f character selectin, the referee will apply the duble blind methd. STANDARD SELECTION Bth players chse their characters whenever they want. This is a free fr all. Players pick wh they want and g. Once either player chses a character, neither is allwed t request that the Duble Blind Selectin r any ther methd t be used. DOUBLE BLIND SELECTION Either player must explicitly ask fr the Duble Blind Selectin methd befre either player chses a character. When a player request Duble Blind, the player n the left side (1p) decides which character and variatin they will chse and whispers his selectin t the Judge. The Judge then signals the player n the right (2p) t pick his character and variatin. Once the player n the right (2p) has finished, the Judge makes sure the player n the left (1p) sticks t his riginal chices. SIDE AND CHARACTER COURTESY As a curtesy, the player wh received his chice f which side t play n (1p vs. 2p) can elect t chse his character first. This is strictly a curtesy. A player is in n way required t d s. STAGE SELECTION Each player can select the stage they want t play. If the selectin f players is different, the game will randmly pick a stage frm their selectins.
After chsing character and stage players jump straight in t buttn check game. BUTTON CHECK Befre ging t the 1st game f the match it is mandatry t have a buttn check rund. Players must check and cnfirm t the referees that all the buttns in his cntrller are wrking prperly. If the buttn arrangement is different fr the player he must chse and mdify a different cntrller preset via in-game menu t his liking. Players at n circumstances are allwed t change cntrller preset 1. It must remain as the default preset. Players are nt allwed t change presets created by ther players wh already played. If the number f custm presets exceeds 3, there will be n space fr anther preset. In this case the referee must take a decisin t verwrite a preset which will be nt used r rarely used in the future matches. After checking all the buttns players are nt allwed t change character, variatin r stage. After bth the players have cnfirmed that they have cnfigured their cntrllers, the referee will give permissin t start the 1st game f the match. Under any circumstances the player is nt allwed t cmplain after the buttn check that his cnfiguratin is wrng. If a player funds that his cnfiguratin is wrng inside a game, he may pause and change his cnfiguratin at the cst f the game. Pauses regarding buttn cnfiguratin issues cunt fr immediate frfeit f the current game. PLAYING THE MATCH Once buttn check is cmpleted, the players shuld begin the first Game in the Match with the referee s permissin. The fllwing rules g int effect nce matches are being played. The Match is ver when either player wins the required number f games.
Once a player has wn the required number f games, the winner f the Match shuld reprt the result t the referee. In between games each player is given a cmbined 1minute interval. If there are still Games t be played, the player wh lst the Game has the ptin f switching sides (1p vs. 2p) fr the next Game. Interval between 2 games is 1minute. The player wh wn the game des nt have the ptin f switching sides. He must stay n the same side if the lser des nt want t switch. The player wh wn the last Game is required t keep the same character and variatin fr the next Game. The player wh lst the last Game is allwed t either restart the match in same cnditins r chse whatever character r variatin he desires. A player wh lst the match due t a penalty will nt have this privilege. He will have t fllw the rules fr his last game which was nt decided by a penalty. In case f a character select, n restrictins are put t the stage fr the fllwing match. Players are allwed t pick any stage they like and the game will randmly pick a stage if the chices differ. Whilst in game the players must at all-time adhere t the referee s warnings. If the referee asks t stp a game fr a reasn he deems crrect players must pause and heed the referee. REPORTING RULE VIOLATIONS At sme pint during the turnament, a player may vilate either the turnament rules r the rules fr a particular game in a turnament. Fr example, a player may switch his character after he wn the previus game (a turnament rule vilatin). The fllwing rules apply tward rectifying rule vilatins.
It is the respnsibly f the players in the Match t detect all Match Rule vilatins and reprt them t a referee immediately. All nn-game play rule vilatins must be reprted t a referee befre the Game starts (e.g. the winner switching the character after winning ne Game in a Match). Players are nt allwed t stp a Game in prgress t address a nn-game play related rule vilatin. Stpping a Game in prgress t reprt a nn-game play rule vilatin will result in the frfeiture f the game n the part f the persn stpping the game. The nly time a player is allwed t stp a Game t reprt a rule vilatin is when that vilatin ccurs during the middle f the match (e.g. bstructin t a player t press buttns). Stpping a Game in prgress t errneusly reprt a rule vilatin (e.g. yur ppnent has yu in a frame trap situatin, which is allwed) autmatically results in the frfeiture f the game by the player wh stpped the game. Rule vilatins must be reprted at the time they ccur. Otherwise, they will be ignred. A referee is allwed t reprt any rule vilatins n behalf f a player. If a referee stps a game t misreprt a rule vilatin, the Game is replayed with bth players picking the same characters, variatins, and stages. N ne is penalized. The nly peple allwed t stp a Game t reprt a vilatin are the referee and the players. Anyne else (e.g. a spectatr) stpping a Game (fr any reasn) will receive a warning and will be frced t leave the spectatr s area. If a player accidentally r intentinally stps his game fr any ther reasn, he will be frced t frfeit the game. Examples include accidentally pressing the start buttn n his cntrller t pause the match, unplugging his r his ppnent s jystick, etc. If the game cannt be restarted frm the exact pint f interruptin, the player is frced t frfeit the Game. Match interruptins beynd the players cntrl (e.g. the game crashes r freezes) will be dealt directly by the referee. All best attempts will be made t resume the rund frm where it left ff. If that cannt be accmplished, the Game will be replayed with bth players picking the same characters, variatins and stages.
Example: Suppse a player lses a Game during his Match. During the middle f the next Game, he ntices that his ppnent changed character (a rule vilatin, since his ppnent wn the previus Game). Since the player did nt ntify a referee immediately after the vilatin ccurred, the player must live with the situatin. If he stps the Game nw, he will be frced t frfeit the Game. Example: During yur match yu bserve that yur ppnent is using a game play bug (Infinite cmb, unusual super meter building, etc.). Yu must pause the game in that rund and reprt the vilatin t a judge. If the rund was ver when yu pause and reprt yu will have t frfeit the game in which yu ve paused. Example: A player is up 1 rund t 0 against his ppnent when he accidentally kicks the pwerstrip, turning the cnsle ff. Since this is an unauthrized stppage f play, the player is frced t frfeit the game. REPORTING EQUIPMENT FAILURE Vide game hardware has a tendency t break dwn during turnaments. Buttns r jysticks will ccasinally break dwn in the middle f a match, leaving the player n the brken side at a significant disadvantage. The fllwing rules will be used in the event f a breakdwn. In the event f an equipment failure, they player has the ptin t stp the Game in prgress t btain a replacement. If a Game is stpped in prgress, the reprting player must frfeit the current rund. New equipment must be immediately available. If replacement equipment cannt be btained in a timely manner, the player must cntinue t play n their current equipment r frfeit the Match. Once replacement equipment is btained, the player is given the rest f the rund t cnfigure their buttns and test the new equipment. If the player gains an undue advantage by ding s (e.g. charging an abundance f super meter, getting ut f a blck string, etc.), they must frfeit the Game. A player may pt t switch ut equipment between Games at n penalty. When this ccurs, the player will be given ample time t cnfigure his buttns befre the next Game begins.
It is cmmn curtesy f the ppnent player t pause the match if his ppnent s cntrller malfunctins. But he cannt be frced t d s. COACHING A cach is allwed t give instructin t a player befre the start f the match and in between games. ( Inside the 1 minute interval in-between games) SPECTATING Spectatrs must have a clearance distance frm the players. It is the respnsibility f the referee t make sure that the spectatrs remain at a safe distance where their mvement will nt bstruct players. Any spectatr wh bstructs the players r are refusing t fllw the referee s instructins will be remved frm the turnament premises. RULE ENFORCEMENT AND DISQUALIFICATION Unfrtunately, smetimes things get ut f hand. Rules ccasinally get vilated fr a variety f reasns; accidentally, maliciusly, r even ut f ignrance. The fllwing rules are designed t deal with rule vilatrs in a way that ensures everyne is treated fairly. These rules will be enfrced! Knw the cnsequences fr yur actins ahead f time. Every participant starts ff the turnament with a clean slate. Referees must reprt each rule vilatin t the rganizer immediately. Any penalty regarding rule vilatin needs t be taken with the cnsent f all the referees and the rganizer. They have the discretin t rule the vilatin as level 1 r level 2. Cnsequences fr each vilatin are explained belw
Level 1 Breach The Level 1 breach will always als be accmpanied by Game Frfeiture. When Game frfeiture is issued, the participant autmatically lses the Game in dispute (nt the Match the Game. Knw the difference!). The ther player autmatically gains a pint fr the match. He is nt required t play a replacement. If n Game is in dispute at the time the frfeiture is awarded (e.g. the frfeiture was issued while the participant was waiting t play), the participant autmatically frfeits his next Game. Recmmended Circumstances fr Issuing a level 1 breach Inability t lcate the participant at the time f his Match Vilatin f Match rules during the Match Minr miscnduct during a turnament (e.g. disruptive behavir, failing t bey the instructins f the judges, etc.). Excessive stalling/miscnduct during a Match (e.g. repeatedly accidentally picking the wrng character, taking a bathrm break between games in a Match). Level 2 Breach A player is immediately disqualified frm the turnament after a level 2 breach. Recmmended Circumstances fr Issuing a level 2 breach Physically harming anther turnament participant (smacking, punching, etc.). Majr Miscnduct (e.g. theft, causing a disruptin which delays the turnament, racial slurs r excessive trash talking, punching, r slamming the screen r jysticks, excessive trash talking, etc.) Excessive physical cntact with the ther player during a Match (e.g. kicking ut his stl) Disturbing an nging match and halting the turnament prgressin. Example Rule Vilatins Player A is in a Match against Player B. During the middle f a Match, Player C wh is nt a part f the match claims that Player B is cheating and demands that the Match be stpped. After repeated (and lud) prtesting by Player C, a Judge is frced t stp the Match. Player C is issued a level 2 breach fr disrupting a turnament match regardless f the actins f Player B.
Player A is in a heated battle with Player B in the quarter-finals f the Winner s Bracket which is best f 3. After lsing the first game in the Match, Player A lses his temper, stands up, and shuts an bscenity. Player A is issued a level 1 breach penalty fr miscnduct. Then Player A will be eliminated frm the turnament (1 lss t Player B + 1 lss due t the Game Frfeiture). Keep yur temper. Player A makes it t the semi-finals f the Winner s bracket. During that Match, he uses excessive trash talking t distract his ppnent. Althugh he wins his game, he is issued a level 1 penalty fr unsprtsmanlike cnduct. This means he will autmatically frfeit the next game. ADDITIONAL RULES Any turnament players that are nt present when their match is called fr pl/semi- final/final matches, withut giving staff a valid reasn fr nt being present, will have a perid f 10 minutes t reprt, t their statin with the required equipment. After the 10 minute perid has expired, yu will be frced t frfeit yur Match. This is a zer tlerance plicy, and friends r staff can t save yu. Equipment sharing is n lnger a valid ptin fr being late t a match. Yu can take the risk and brrw smene s equipment, but if it is in use, and yur match is called, yu will have tw (2) minutes t reprt with valid equipment r be penalized. There will be n ties in any turnament. Anyne refusing t play any Match (including the finals) will be disqualified and frfeit all rights t any titles r prizes they might have therwise earned fr that turnament. Inevitable Defeat rule is in effect. This is defined as when a player has legally wn the rund r game (i.e. landed a mve that will kill the ppnent) but pauses the game befre the game awards the rund wn icn. He will still be awarded the win. The mst cmmn ccurrence f this rule is when Player 1 lands an X-Ray n Player 2. If there is a dispute ver whether the mve wuld have kncked ut the ther player, a referee will un-pause the match, see the result f the actin, and
prceed frm there. If the attack des nt kill the ppnent, then the mid game pause rules are in effect. Anyne visibly intxicated r therwise under the influence will be immediately ejected frm the turnament, and may be banned. If yu d nt cperate immediately, we will nt hesitate t cntact the lcal authrities. We have always enjyed vilence-free events, and this a zer tlerance issue. Cllusin f any kind with yur cmpetitrs is cnsidered cheating. If the Turnament Organizer determines that any cmpetitr is clluding t manipulate the results r intentinally underperfrming, the cllabrating players may be immediately disqualified. This determinatin is t be made at the sle discretin f the Turnament Organizer. Anyne disqualified in this manner frfeits all rights t any titles r prizes they might have therwise earned fr that turnament. Turnaments have zer tlerance plicy tward vilence, threats f vilence, intimidatin, and ther frms f vilent behavir. Any threat f vilence, extreme intimidatin, r vilence f any kind will result in an immediate and lifetime ban. Gambling is prhibited in and/r arund the event hall. Any player that gambles n the prperty will be immediately ejected frm the turnament, and may be banned. If yu want t gamble, g play at the tables, that is what they are fr. If any equipment is damaged during a celebratin r altercatin the Turnament Organizer will hld the player(s) respnsible fr the cst f all damages. The rganizers may want t film, phtgraph r therwise recrd Entrants at any stage f the Turnament and by any means. Entrants shall be deemed t give the Prmter, and its assciated cmpanies, licensees and assigns permissin t undertake such recrding and t. Edit, alter, reprduce, publish and distribute any such phtgraphs, recrdings and films r anything derived frm them (the Material ) in any medium; and Use the Material, in whle r in part, fr any purpses it deems necessary t prmte, advertise r explit the prducts f the Prmter and/r its assciated cmpanies, licensees and assigns, and anything cnnected with r derived frm them in perpetuity and thrughut the universe.
These rules are an attempt t insure that the turnament runs fairly and as smthly as pssible. Hwever, unfreseen circumstances may require a special respnse, and fr that reasn the Turnament Organizer reserves the right t change any f the turnament rules r remve any player at any time, fr any reasn, at their sle discretin.
