PLAYER PROFILE Player s Name: Michael Christie Nickname: Cyclone How did you hear about the club and who introduced you to the club? At SPX & Older CBOB s What year did you join? 1970 What position did you play? Front row, Second Row & Breakaway in Rugby and opening bowler in the A grade cricket team which I captained for a number of years. What year did you stop playing? 1976 Did you play for any other clubs? No Did any other members of your family play for the club (brothers, sons etc?) 2 Brothers- David & Greg Did you hold any executive positions at the club? Yes Did you coach any sides? Yes for about 3years after injury prematurely ended my playing days Did you captain any sides? Yes Did you win any premierships? Yes in 1974 the Stockdale Cup Most memorable game and Why? For mine a most memorable game apart from winning the Stockdale Cup in 1974 was another game. It was when I was still that quick that I could get into bed before it was dark after turning the lights out. It was in Kentwell Cup against Briars in 1975 or so. We scored 4 tries worth 4 points each = 16 points Briars scored 6 penalty goals worth 3 points each = 18 points. Unless I am off the mark and all the amber fluid has affected the brain more than I realised that was my recollection of the scores & how they evolved. One could say that our goal-kicker was having an off day as most tries were scored out wide by the wingers and secondly you could say that the referee penalised the absolute crap out of us. Highly technical penalties flowed and we could not stem the tide.

To add insult to injury we had cold showers whilst the hot steam from their showers made it hard to see past the front of your nose as you left the dressing sheds!!!! Are there any great moments or stories you would like to share? When a large group of us was staying at St Georges Basin for Billy Daley s 21 st in the early 70 s. After the first day of festivities some of us decided that it was more comfortable to keep drinking all night & not sleep uncomfortably in my small vehicle. We drank all night in Bill s father s garage and bore the wrath of a few of the guys when they awoke elsewhere from an induced slumber and abused us for starting early that morning & not inviting them to join us. Also John Waugh s new found girlfriend Sandra (Dracula s daughter s lookalike) being serenaded extremely loudly at the local RSL where we were all imbibing large quantities of syrup. Who were some of your more colourful colleagues/characters? Whirlwind Woody, Chucka Chubby & Whorie to name a few Was Dockers your main drinking spot? Yes and it is the main reason why I was penniless when I got married. 1972 1974 1973/1974

Player s Name: Noel Ponton Nickname: Mole or Ponto PLAYER PROFILE How did you hear about the club and who introduced you to the club? Terry Woody What year did you join? 1966 What position did you play? Fullback, 5/8 and centre What year did you stop playing? 1978 Did you play for any other clubs? No other rugby clubs, they even changed the constitution to and their friends, so I could go on committee, I was a Proddo in those days before going catholic Did any other members of your family play for the club (brothers, sons etc?) No Did you hold any executive positions at the club? Publicity Officer 6yrs, Cricket Sec 10years and Basketball Sec 4years Did you coach any sides? No Did you captain any sides? Only occasionally Did you win any premierships? No, out injured, just my luck!!!!!!!!! Did you go on any club trips or tours? Many, including the Hydro Majestic Are there any great moments or stories you would like to share? A kick in the final against Knox at Turramurra, to win the game, Bro Robbo was beside me as I moved in to kick from near half way, the ball hit the black dot and bounced back into the field followed by his expletive of F@ck me lord, sorry bout that!!!!!. We lost by a point, but I still laugh at his outburst! Who were some of your more colourful colleagues/characters? Woody, Micapopulous, RFT, Frank Mahony, John Timmo, Shamus, Scuffy McDuff, Whorie and of course Frosty Muller who I introduced to the club when he lived at Merrylands and I brought him from Greystanes, and too many more to list Was Dockers your main drinking spot? There and occasionally the Great Northern, I also worked there in the public bar for a couple of years before marrying Turps

Season 1974 in Review. 1974 was a very successful year for the club with all four senior sides appearing in the Finals. The second grade side went on to win the Stockdale Cup. We finished 5th in the overall Club Championship (All Divisions) for the Bruce Graham Shield. The Club was promoted to First Division (Kentwell, Burke, Whiddon and Judd Cups) for the 1975 season. In 1974 we also fielded an Under 18 side in the Under 18 (A s) and finished a very credible sixth. Tim Bourke from this side played in the Second Grade (Stockdale Cup) Grand Final. Our Cricket teams also had an excellent year winning C Grade and coming second in A Reserve Grade. The following pages will include extracts from the 1974 Annual Report and records obtained from NSW Suburban Rugby Union. The club fielded five Rugby sides, two cricket sides and a basketball side see the Club President s reference to the Club membership fee of $5.00/year. I think you will also be very interested in the Financial Report showing Income: $7,105.02 and Expenditure: $6,336.01 Profit: $769.01 The Rugby landscape has certainly changed when compared with Season 2011 as per Annual report Total Revenue- $59,612, Total Expenditure-$57,893 Net profit $1720- Good to see we are still keeping our noses in front!!! I guess it s all relative to your current environment or conditions you face.

Brothers Rugby Club Sydney was formed by Old Boys of St Pius X College Chatswood in 1947 and was at that time known as Christian Brothers Old Boys or CBOB s. In 2005, it was decided to change our name from CBOB s to the very familiar Brothers Rugby Club Sydney. Brothers being one of the most well known rugby brands in Australia. We will be fielding 4 senior grades and an U21 s colts team in 2012. We are on the Web:http:// www.brothersrugby. com.au/home/ Brothers Rugby Club Sydney (formerly CBOBs) aims to provide a competitive rugby environment in conjunction with an active social programme for all its playing and non-playing members. Brothers has a long and proud history in the Sydney suburban competition with a long list of premierships won over the years. This is testament to the strength of the club, from its formative years, through to the modern era. Brothers are affiliated to the 5 Brothers clubs in Queensland including Brothers Brisbane and also Brothers Joondalup in Western Australia. Brothers are also affiliated to the Marist Rugby Federation in New Zealand, Tonga, Fiji and Samoa, numbering approximately 40 clubs in all. Brothers are and always have been a social rugby club, with an emphasis on enjoyment through participation. There is a grade of rugby for players of all levels of skill, ability, fitness and girth. We play competitively, but ensure that we enjoy our time representing Brothers. Players of any ability are welcome at Brothers, as it is a great place to continue your rugby enjoyment. Brothers will show you the best sporting and social experience of your life. We train on a Tuesday and Thursday night through the rugby season from 7pm. We are based at Roseville Chase Oval. If you would like to come and play please feel free to turn up and say hello. Or just drop us a note at play@brothersrugby.com.au
