Sports Club of the Year Awards 2011 The Sport and Recreation Alliance (formerly CCPR) Sports Club of the Year Awards have been running for 18 years and next year the structure of these awards will change. This change is designed to highlight and honour the breadth of delivery that sports clubs now undertake. Not only will clubs have the opportunity to compete for the Community Sports Club of the Year Award but they will also be considered for new awards for diversity and volunteer management. The awards for 2011 are: Community Sports Club of the Year Open and Inclusive Club of the Year Best Club Volunteer Management Programme Community Amateur Sports Club (CASC) of the Year School Club Links Award Professional Sports Club Community Programme of the Year The Sport and Recreation Alliance is encouraging its members, the national governing and representative bodies of sport and recreation, and the County Sports Partnerships, to each endorse and nominate up to three of their clubs for these awards. We are keen to encourage applications from all types of sport and recreation organisations in order to reflect the diversity of the members, and from organisations that are open to all ages and abilities. The clubs nominated will also be judged by their responses for the other available awards. In the following pages you will find the: NGBs/representative body endorsement rules Club application criteria The application form, including the Governing or Representative Body Endorsement form that will be used for: - Community Sports Club of the Year - Open and Inclusive Club of the Year - Best Club Volunteer Management Programme - Community Amateur Sports Club (CASC) of the Year

Clubs should complete the relevant nomination form once selected by their NGB or CSP to apply for a SCOTY award. The majority of these awards will be administered by the Sport and Recreation Alliance with the exception of the School Club Links Award and the Professional Sports Club Committee programme of the year. The Sport and Recreation Alliance is pleased to be running the School Club Links Award in conjunction with the Youth Sport Trust. This award will have a separate nomination form that can be obtained by emailing Steph Allmark from the Youth Sport Trust. Her email address is: steph.allmark@youthsporttrust.org. Nominations are also sought from professional clubs for the Professional Sports Club Community Programme of the Year Award. This is being administered by The Media Group. The nomination form for the award is available from Liz Stenner at liz.stenner@themediagroup.tv or call -115 969 4600 for more details. Last year s prizes were awarded by HRH the Earl of Wessex, at a glittering gala dinner in a top London hotel. In addition to the prize money, the governing body and winning club may benefit from local and national media attention. Runningsports will also provide resources to the winning clubs to assist with their continuing development. Application forms should be received no later than 5pm on Friday 25 February 2011

18 th Sports Club of the Year Awards NGBs/representative body endorsement rules 1 Applications for SCOTY 2011 will only be considered with the endorsement of the club s national governing body (NGB) head office (not regional or local offices) or a county sports partnership (CSP). 2 The endorsing NGB/CSP should be in current membership of the Sport and Recreation Alliance. 3 A single individual within the NGB/CSP should be named to the Sport and Recreation Alliance as being responsible for endorsements and having final sign-off ahead of the closing date. Endorsements will only be accepted from this individual. 4 Applications from clubs without endorsement will not be accepted. Where an NGB/CSP has organised an internal competition to determine SCOTY nominations, the order of results for this will not automatically result in the same outcome when assessed for SCOTY. 5 Endorsements of multi-sports clubs should be received from one NGB and details provided of the additional sports/activities within the club. The additional NGBs of these sports will be contacted by the Sport and Recreation Alliance to second the endorsement. If seconding is refused, a decision will be made by the selection committee prior to assessment on the inclusion of this application. If the decision of the selection committee is to refuse the application, the endorsing NGB will be able to nominate an alternative club. Endorsement of another NGB or representative body s nomination will not reduce the entitlement of the seconding NGB or representative body to nominate three of its own clubs. 6 All applications will be judged on an individual basis and any guidelines provided are merely an indication of potential scores. Scores will be decided upon by the selection panel. 7 The decision of the selection panel is final. Endorsing bodies should return completed application forms to: Sports Club of the Year Awards 2011 Sport and Recreation Alliance, Burwood House, 14-16 Caxton Street, London SW1H 0QT T 020 7976 3900 * F 020 7976 3901 * www.sportandrecration.org.uk Email: scoty@sportandrecreation.org.uk
