Statistical Advance: Analyzing The Chemung 120 At Chemung Speedrome DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (Sept. 29, 2008) For just the second time in series history the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour will visit Chemung (N.Y.) Speedrome for the Chemung 120 on Saturday, Oct. 4. At Chemung Speedrome: The only previous appearance for the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour at Chemung took place on Aug. 10, 2001. Jerry Marquis was the winner of the Chemung 150 with Reggie Ruggiero the runner-up The late John Blewett III, Rob Summers and Dave Berghman rounded out the top five. Current full-time competitors that participated in that 2001 race include: Jimmy Blewett, Wade Cole, Ed Flemke Jr., Rick Fuller, Mike Stefanik and Jamie Tomaino. The race marked the NWMT debut for Jimmy Blewett. Chemung Speedrome Data Race # 14 of 16 (10-4-08) Track Layout:.375-mile banked oval Was originally built as a.25-mile dirt track in 1951 by the Bodine family. Closed in 1978 Purchased by current owner Bob Stapleton in 1985. Re-opened in October, 2000. Has held one previous NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour race in 2001. Is one of three New York tracks the NWMT will race at in 2008 along with Riverhead Raceway and Spencer Speedway. Qualifying/Race Data 2001 pole winner: Tony Hirschman (93.691 mph, 14.406 seconds) 2001 race winner: Jerry Marquis (51.072 mph, 1:19.10) Schedule Update The CARQUEST Fall Final at Stafford (Conn.) Motor Speedway, originally scheduled to take place Sept. 27-28, was rescheduled to Oct. 11-12. Last Time Out Martinsville, Sept. 20: Ryan Preece was credited with his first career NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour victory in his 27th series start He is the youngest driver in series history to earn a victory at 17 years, 330 days Preece has since been named the combination race s overall winner as the NASCAR Whelen Southern Modified Tour s Burt Myers, who was the first across the line, has been disqualified. Matt Hirschman gained 10 points on Ted Christopher in the season points tally and now trails by 89. Reggie Ruggiero recorded his best finish of the season, third overall and second among NWMT drivers. The race was the 500th in the history of the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour.

2-2-2-2 Season Recap: Ted Christopher assumed the season points lead for the first time at Mansfield (Ohio) Motorsports Park when he captured the Whelen 150 He also won the Tech-Net Spring Sizzler at Stafford (Conn.) Motor Speedway and the New Hampshire 100. Ryan Preece was credited with his first career NWMT victory in the most-recent race at Martinsville (Va.) Speedway. Matt Hirschman earned his first career NWMT victory at Spencer Speedway on July 12 He is second in points, 89 behind Christopher. Chuck Hossfeld, who led in points for eight straight races, is now 167 points behind Christopher He has victories at SMS (5/23) and NHMS (6/28). Todd Szegedy won at Thompson (Conn.) International Speedway on Sept. 7 It was his first win of 2008, and 13th of his career. Ronnie Silk has two wins this year, both at TIS. Jimmy Blewett won back-to-back races at Riverhead Raceway (8/2) and SMS (8/8). Ed Flemke Jr. captured the season-opener at TIS (4/6), his first victory since 2004. James Civali, Bobby Grigas III and Ryan Preece have earned their first career poles in 2008.
