Expo Work Day We have one more county fundraiser event coming up. We will be hosting the swine jackpot show at the Callaway Youth Expo grounds on Saturday May 27. If you have not worked a county event yet you will need to help at this event to be a member in good standing and be able to show at the CYE in July. You club leader has times and ways you can help. April 10, 2017 Camps Camp Clover Point-Applications are due May 1. June 2-3 Counselor Camp, June 8-10 Shooting Sports Camp, June 19-22 Traditional Camp (bus is provided for this week only, but if you can t go this week, traditional camp is offered all month and you can go another week as long as camp is not full)traditional camp forms are due on May 1. (Those not in 4-H can come for $10 extra), June 22-24 Canine Camp (need to be a member of 4-H, register on-line, only 30 spots available) All camp forms are attached and scholarships are available to help pay for camp if needed. Dairy Camp-Youth ages 8-18 interested in learning about the dairy industry will want to register for 4-H Dairy Cow Camp scheduled for May 24-26. Campers will work together to learn about judging dairy, dairy management, animal care ethics and showmanship. Participants will be certified in SMQA. A judging contest and showmanship completion provide the culmination to the camp. The registration brochure and health form may be found at http://extension.missouri.edu/lawrence. Deadline for registration is April 15. Clinics/Sales/Shows Horses-There will be a local horsemanship and trail clinic offered by the Mid-MO Saddle Club and Big Spring Busy Beaver on May 6, 2017. See attached flyer for details. April 28-30 William Woods will be hosting a riding clinic. E-mail Michelesmith@williamwoods.edu for more information. Swine-Callaway County Block & Bridle Jackpot Show will be Saturday, May 27th at the CYE fairgrounds. See the Callaway County extension website for more information. Centralia FFA Jackpot Show Sunday May 28th. Information is attached at the end of the newsletter. Sheep & Goat-Klarissa Minish will be hosting a youth sheep and goat clinic in New Bloomfield, on April 15. Please RSVP to kshefit93@gmail.com. The flyer with more details is in the Feb. 6 newsletter. There will be a jackpot market lamb and goat show in Queen City, MO on May 27, 2017. See attached flyer for more details. Sassafras Valley Ranch will be holding a lamb sale in Belle, MO on April 22 at 4:30pm. See attached flyer. Small Animal Show & Clinic-April 29th in Green City at the City Park. Information is attached. Beef-Cooper County 4-H will be hosting a cattle grooming clinic at Prairie Home Fairgrounds. Flyer is attached at the end of the newsletter. The Henry County Livestock Preview Show will be Saturday June, 10th in Clinton, MO. See attached flyer for details. County Happenings Shooting Sports-Shooting Sports will be selling calendars for $50 in partnership with the Missouri Friends of the NRA State Committee. In the calendar is a raffle ticket, this raffle ticket is good for a drawing for 104 guns. There will be two drawings per week. If you are interested in buying a calendar please contact Lori Davis at shanekalynmom@gmail.com or call the extension office at 642-0755. (Each person in Callaway County shooting sports is asked to sell at least one calendar.) Teen Leaders-Anyone 13+ is invited to the countywide teen lock in to be held on April 21. More details on the front of the newsletter. The deadline to pre-register is April 17. The Teen Leaders will be holding a car wash on May 20 from 11-4 at the Magic Car wash in Kingdom City. Page 2

See attached flyer for more details. Shooting Sports-Laclede County 4-H will be hosting a skeet and sporting clays fundraiser at Lebanon MO on June 10, 2017. See flyer for details. Andrew County 4-H will be hosting at shooting sports event on June 3. See attached flyer. Clover Classic Golf Tournament-A charity golf tournament will be held on Tuesday June 6, starting at 10:00am at A.L. Gustin Golf Course in Columbia. This is a four person scramble, 18 holes, shotgun start to benefit the Missouri 4-H Foundation. $90 per person fee. Contact Rachel at au- State Happenings Public Speaking-The 4-H Public Speaking Academy is preparing for its sixth year! The camp is open to all youth 11-13 years of age interested in learning more about public speaking. The Academy will be June 21-22, 2017 and registration is due May 16. Lodging will be provided on the campus of Central Methodist University in Fayette, Mo. Horse Public Speaking and Demo Contest-This event will be at the 4-H Center in Columbia on Sept. 9, 2017. Please register through 4-H online from July 15-Aug. 15. The spring 2017 paper clover fundraiser is coming to Tractor Supply Company from April 26- May 7. Callaway County directly gets money back from clover sales in the Fulton store for scholarships for camps or leadership activities. How can you help? *Set up a display about your local 4-H program. *Schedule 4-Her s physically in the store as greeters. *Post signs around town to promote it. *Share on social media. State 4-H Congress Update-Registration for the 2017 State 4-H Congress is open. Please register as soon as you finalize your plans to attend so we can honor and respect our presenters as they make plans for their sessions. There are large scholarships available for this through our regional office. Call Sarah at the county office as soon as possible for information or talk to your club leader. Sportfishing-Missouri 4-H State Sportfishing event will be Sat. June 3, 2017 in Mid Missouri. The event is open to all 4-H members enrolled in the sportfishing project. Enroll for the event through 4-H online from April 1-May15. Cost of the event is $20 per member. Additional information can be found at http://4h.missouri.edu/go/projects/sportfishing/ MU Vet Medicine Open House-Learn more about the College of Vet. Medicine on April 22. Just a few of the fun activities include: milk a cow, animal hospital tours, mobile surgery unit, and meet the mule team. Go to http://cvm.missouri.edu/news/openhouse2017.html for times and details. State Poultry Day-State Poultry Day will be held on June 17 at the Animal Science Building at MU campus. This is open for all 4-Her s. Applications are available at the Extension Office. All applications will be reviewed by the senior council. Please have all camp scholarship requests in by April 24, senior council will meet that night. 2017 Daisy/4-H Shooting Sports Scholarship A $500 scholarship is available to high schoolers who meet the qualifications. If you are interested, e-mail the extension office for applications. Applications are due by April 30. May 5 May 15 Summers @ Mizzou Sportfishing Day (reg. opens April 1) State Fair State Fair Registration-State Fair cards for barrows must be postmarked by May 15. (See flyer in March 20 newsletter.) Lamb and meat goat nose print cards must be postmarked by June 15. The livestock entry deadline is June 30, 2017. Aug. 13 at the Show Me Robots exhibit in Lowell Mohler Hall. Games will be announced by April 15. This is an open competition for 4-H Robotics members. Callaway Youth Expo Buyers Contact Sheets These can be found on the extension website. The deadline to turn these to the extension office is Friday, June 9th. Swine Intent to Participate-These forms and the swine rules can be found on the extension website. These need to be turned in by Friday, May 12th to the extension office. Opportunities Offered Outside of 4-H Missouri Agriculture Photo Contest Captures Best of Farm, Rural Life- The Missouri Department of Agriculture has announced it s 8th annual Focus on Missouri Agriculture contest, asking Missourians to share the unique stories and images of agriculture through photographs. Winners will be announced in mid July and winning images will be displayed during the Missouri State Fair in the Agriculture Building. To submit your photos, go to agriculture.mo.gov/focus and complete the online form by June 15. Your counselor knows that this type of exchange is not permitted. We also ask that you think about the emails, IMs and comments on social networking sites that you may share with other campers. Remember: a. Keep what you say respectful of campers and staff alike b. Do not use obscenities, vulgar or sexual language c. Do not say threatening, harassing, or intimidating things to or about other campers or staff d. Do not post pictures online that would embarrass or violate anyone s privacy e. Do not pose as another camper online or spread false information about anyone or say derogatory or threatening things to or about anyone f. Do not use a website, blog, or email to talk about things that are against camp policy like drugs, alcohol, bullying, or sexual things We are happy to say that most internet communication is POSITIVE! In the rare case where we discover negative messages to other campers or staff our policy is to call the parents of the campers who sent the messages and share the contents with them. We want you to be safe on the Internet. If you receive a threatening email, IM or message on your personal website one that is mocking or uses vulgar or harassing language tell your parents immediately. If you think the message might be from someone at camp, ask your parents to notify Extension staff immediately! Camp Clover Point has a no cell phone/electronic device policy at camp. All electronic devices that take photos, connect to the internet and make/take phone calls must be turned in to Extension staff upon arriving at camp. This includes cell phones, smart watches, MP3 players, media players, etc. They will be returned when camp has ended. The use of head phones with any personal electronic device is also not allowed. We encourage children to participate fully with their peers at camp and headphones can be isolating. We do allow personal music devices to be used with speakers. We are trying to create the safest environment possible for all of our campers. If a camper has a prohibited device, it will be held in the office until the end of camp. If you would like to take pictures at camp you may bring a camera. A disposable film camera is preferred (with an affixed return address label for identification). As with other electronic devices, the physical camp environment is not kind to digital cameras, and they can be easily broken, lost or stolen. The first afternoon of camp, campers (with counselors present) will be allowed to take pictures of their bunk area inside their cabin. For the remainder of camp, only outside pictures are permitted. We do not permit any type of video camera at camp. PLEASE SIGN BELOW TO INDICATE THE FOLLOWING: I have read over and discussed the enclosed internet policy with my child(ren). My child(ren) understands the importance of internet safety and I as a parent take full responsibility for their internet use and communication with Camp Clover Point staff and campers.
