Sophomore center Jordan Williams was named a third team All-American by both Yahoo! Sports and FoxSports.com. Williams was also voted onto the All-ACC fi rst team by the Atlantic Coast Sports Media Association. Freshman guard Terrell Stoglin earned a spot on the ACC s All-Freshman Team. Williams had a double-double last night against NC State with 16 points and 13 rebounds. He moved into second place on the single-season rebound list at Maryland, now with 372. He trails only the 412 rebounds by Len Elmore in 1974. Williams still leads the ACC in rebounding at 11.6 rpg and could become the fi rst Terrapin to lead the league on the boards since Joe Smith nabbed 10.7 rebounds per game in 1993-94. He has 25 games with double fi gures in rebounds, closing on the school record 26 games by Elmore in 1973-74. 2010-11 Terrapins Roster No. Player Pos Ht Wt Yr Hometown PPG RPG Note 1 Adrian Bowie G 6-2 195 Sr. Greenbelt, Md. 8.9 *3.5 Best A/T ratio in league in ACC games (2.5) 10 Berend Weijs C 6-10 200 Jr. Amsterdam, Neth. 1.9 1.2 Bucket, board, block vs. Virginia 11 Mychal Parker F 6-5 195 Fr. Terps are facing their 7th game this year against a ranked opponent, more than any other ACC team this season. Maryland has gone.787 from the free-throw line in the last 7 games (129x164). Maryland now has a string of 15 consecutive seasons with at least 19 wins. The last time the Terrapins failed to reach that plateau was a 17-13 record in 1995-96. The Terrapins are on an 18-season string with at least seven conference victories in a season. Maryland is now 5-3 in fi rst-round games in the ACC Tournament... The Terps are 27-25 all-time in quarterfi nals. Maryland vs. Ranked Teams Under Gary Williams Since Gary Williams took over in 1989-90, Maryland has 72 wins over Top 25 teams, including a 79-72 win over #4 Duke recently: Williams is the nation s winningest active coach vs. top-ranked teams with seven career victories over a No. 1 opponent (6 at Maryland; 1 at Ohio State). Under Williams, Maryland has defeated 20 Top 5 opponents, 34 Top 10 opponents and the No. 1 team 6 times. Maryland has 23 wins over Top 10 teams the last 10 years. The Terps have defeated at least one Top 10 opponent in 17 of 21 seasons under Williams, including 14 straight. Williams has led victories over 1st-, 2nd- or 3rd-ranked teams in 8 of the last 10 seasons. Fear the Turtle! Maryland is one of the most consistent winning programs in the country following more than a decade of excellence: The Terps have averaged 23.0 wins per season the last 13 years, including eight consecutive 20-win seasons from 1996-2004. Maryland has 17 straight postseason appearances, including 11 consecutive trips to the NCAA TOURNAMENT from 1993-2004. The Terrapins have won at least two postseason games (ACC, NCAA, NIT) in nine of the last 12 seasons. The Terps have advanced to the NCAA SWEET SIXTEEN 7 times in the last 16 years... The Terps are tied for 7th nationally in the number of Sweet Sixteen appearances since 1994. Maryland made consecutive trips to the NCAA FINAL FOUR in 2001 and 2002. The Terps captured the 2002 NCAA NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP. The Terps captured the 2004 ACC TOURNAMENT CHAMPIONSHIP. Maryland shared the 2010 ACC REGULAR-SEASON TITLE with eventual national-champion Duke. Commitment To Education Under Gary Williams, the Maryland basketball program continues to place a high priority on education and the personal growth of its studentathletes. Maryland has graduated 12 of its last 14 seniors and all three current seniors are on track to earn their degrees this season. Adrian Bowie has been named the recipient of the LeFrak Scholarship Award. The scholarship represents an endowment established by the Samuel J. and Ethel LeFrak Foundation, and is awarded annually to three Maryland student-athletes who exhibit extraordinary athletic, leadership and scholarship abilities. Many former Terps continue to work toward their degrees while continuing to pursue professional basketball opportunities. Keith Booth, a four-year starter and 1997 All-American, graduated in 2003 after pursuing a professional basketball career that included winning an NBA Championship in 1998, and is now one of Gary Williams assistant coaches. Former Terps Calvin McCall, Laron Profi t and Terrell Stokes are among the recent men s basketball players to earn degrees from the University of Maryland. Maryland student-athletes all work toward completion of their college degree with the assistance of the Academic Support and Career Development Unit. u terps.com 2010-11 Maryland Basketball Notes
