Mesa Regal Pickleball Club Newsletter February 10, 2019 SCHEDULED PLAY THIS WEEK ***All pickleball courts will be closed for activities on Feb. 13, 14 & 15 for Cal-Am tournament.*** Extra Information to note: To be respectful for our volunteer coordinators, please make sure you show up 15 minutes prior to your scheduled event so the coordinator can make any necessary changes to the sign ups prior to your time starting. If you want to join a scheduled Mesa Regal event, contact the coordinator or if you want to join a skill level Interpark league, contact the facilitator of that specific event (both lists on the bulletin board at the clubhouse or on the email Monkey link) Suggestions/comments?? TENNIS/PICKLEBALL FUN DAY Social Event Sunday, February 24 th 8:30 a.m.-2:00 p.m. Thanks to everyone who has volunteered to make this a successful event. For all of you who wish to participate in the fun-day event, look for the SIGN-UP SHEETS located on the pickleball BULLETIN BOARD or contact Sue at sueberry1952@hotmail.com. Hosted by MRPC this year, we need YOU to show our love of the sport to our fellow tennis players. Sign up and show them how the game is played. This is a fun social with a pizza lunch to follow supported by our wonderful club. We need 24 more people. Remember, this is not a competition, just an opportunity to try something new, meet new friends, and just have fun!! Back to the Beach MRPC Year-End Party Plans Underway Friday, March 1 4:00 p.m. 9:00 p.m. Regal Hall Plans are well underway for our fantastic year-end Back to the Beach party to be held March 1 in the Regal Hall; however, we still need a few VOLUNTEERS, particularly for the food teams and ticket sales. There will be sign-up sheets at the pickleball courts or you may contact the Sub-Committee Chairs directly. Mesa Regal Pickleball Club ELECTIONS There are two open Board positions to fill in the 2019-2020 season for a two-year term. Nominations are to be submitted to Wendy Wier at wendymwier@gmail.com and must be submitted to her by midnight, Thursday, February 28. If there are more than two nominations, voting will take place at 8:00 a.m. to 12 Noon on March 4 and 5 (Monday and Tuesday) at the pickleball stage. The Annual General Meeting will be held on March 9, at 9:00 a.m., and we will be making the announcement of our new Board members at that time. When Board members are elected, the positions are assigned at the March Board meeting. The Board looks forward to the MRPC membership for their participation in this process. Thank you. MRPBCLUB RATINGS Ratings are being held throughout February and March for 3.0 and 3.5 levels. If you are interested in obtaining a rating, please contact Pat Porter at sportport3@gmail.com. CAL-AM PARKS PICKLEBALL TOURNAMENT February 13, 14, 15 th The Cal Am (Residents Only) Tournament, hosted this year by Mesa Regal, will be happening THIS WEEK, February 13-15, 2019 (Wednesday/WD, Thursday/MD Friday/MXD). ALL COURTS will be CLOSED to any MRPC activities and reservations. PLEASE NOTE: Players participating in the Cal Am Tournament can pick up their shirts on Monday (2/11) morning between 10:00-10.30 a.m. at the pickleball patio. Anyone not able to get there can call Neil at 604-309-2414 and arrange pickup. Neil would like to THANK all those that have volunteered for this event and he has attached a listing for everyone to review you can see it in this week s newsletter notification. We still need REFEREE VOLUNTEERS. Please contact Pat Porter at sportport3@gmail.com TODAY! Come out and support your club!! NEW COURT RESERVATION GUIDELINES The MRPC Board has recently realized that the Court Reservation Guidelines were not meeting the goals of the Board, so a few changes have been made. Before making new reservations, please review the new Court Reservation Guidelines, as the changes are in effect and will show up on Hold My Court. A copy of the Guidelines can be found in this week s newsletter notification and will continue throughout the remainder of the season. Click here to see the guidelines. TOURNAMENT WINNERS Although we had a good representation at the Venture Out tournament, our members met with some stiff competition and only our resident 5.0 player, Jim Pelletier, came away with a Bronze in Men s 5.0 Doubles. Our apologies to anyone that we ve missed if you ve won a medal, we want to hear about it!!! CALL FOR REFEREES The 2nd Annual Sunland Springs Village Pickleball Tournament takes place from Feb. 25 through Feb. 27 (with a rain make-up day of Feb. 28), starting each day at 8:30 a.m. Referees who are able to help for a half a day (or more) will receive a free lunch coupon for the food truck. The tournament is a USAPA Tier 3 sanctioned event. If you can volunteer, please contact Onno DeVries at 480-878-5354 or email him at onnodev@shaw.ca.

They are looking for people to volunteer to referee!! GREENFIELD ANNUAL 55+ - Feb 26-28 This IS NOT a sanctioned tournament -- you DO NOT need to be a USAPA member. Doug Flowers provided the following update: Our Men s Doubles levels are full. Our Women s Doubles all levels especially 2.5 needs more teams. The Mixed Doubles needs 2.5 teams but the 3.0 and 3.5 are full. So, ladies and all 2.5 players, sign up now!!! SUNLAND SPRINGS VILLAGE Feb. 25 27 A little farther to travel but always great competition. The tournament is a USAPA Tier 3 sanctioned event. The daily events (WD/Monday, MD/Tuesday, MXD/Wednesday skill only) start at 8:30 a.m. They are looking for referee volunteers with certified referees for their gold match events see information under Call for Referees.
