A TRIBUTE TO MR. FORD William Clay Ford (1925-2014) Detroit Lions Owner and Chairman, 1964-2014 Beginning Week 1 this season, the Detroit Lions introduced a special jersey patch displaying the letters WCF in honor of the franchise s late owner, Mr. William Clay Ford. The patch will appear on the left shoulder of all Lions players jerseys for the 2014 season as a tribute to one of the NFL s original statesmen. Mr. Ford passed away on March 9 at the age of 88 and owned and directed the Lions franchise during a span of 50 years. Through fi ve decades, his unwavering leadership provided stability to an organization, its fans and the community when most professional sports franchises cycled through numerous ownership changes and franchise moves. Mr. Ford remained steadfastly committed to ensuring the Lions were always a vital component to the Detroit community and the state of Michigan. THE NFL REMEMBERS MR. FORD NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell: For fi ve decades, Mr. Ford s passion for the Lions, Detroit, and the NFL was the foundation of one of the NFL s historic franchises. As an NFL owner, Mr. Ford helped bring the NFL through enormous periods of change and growth, always guided by his commitment to what was best for the NFL and his beloved Lions. All of us in the NFL extend our heartfelt sympathy to Mr. Ford s wife Martha, Bill Ford, Jr. and the entire Ford family. Dallas Cowboys Owner Jerry Jones: I ve literally been at owners (meetings) when an owner came up and met Mr. Ford for the fi rst time, and the owner was a new owner in the NFL. I was standing right with him and the owner talked about how his granddad had been a Ford dealer in Texas, in the depths of Texas, and he literally teared up when he talked about what Ford, what the brand and what the individuals stood for and had stood for in his evolving to the point that he could buy an NFL football team. He actually teared up and showed that kind of emotion, and that was (former Minnesota Vikings owner) Red McCombs. Late Buffalo Bills Owner Ralph Wilson, Jr: I was deeply saddened to hear of the passing of Bill Ford. He was a man of great integrity who loved his family and his Lions. Bill was well respected within our league as well as the city of Detroit and his contributions to both were numerous. We have all lost a good friend with his passing. My deepest sympathies and condolences go out to his family and many friends. Lions Hall of Fame TE and Assistant Director of Pro Personnel Charlie Sanders: I ve always just enjoyed being around him just to watch him laugh. He was a cheerful owner, you know, upbeat, always positive. I have a lot of memories, but when I think of him I just think of a man that was very fair and enjoyed people and enjoyed people that had the same desires that he had. Most of those are centered around the Detroit Lions organization. Former Lions Herman Moore: Every single game that he was in the locker room, we at least spoke, or he would be in the locker room. I appreciated that from our owner. That s a real moment that fans don t know about the commitment that he would show to us players.

As the Lions new head coach, Jim Caldwell brings 37 years of coaching experience to Detroit, including 13 previous years in the NFL and 24 years on the college level. Two Super Bowl titles and three appearances in the NFL s championship game highlight his coaching resume, which includes leading the Indianapolis Colts to an AFC Championship and a berth in Super Bowl XLVI as head coach following the 2009 season. COACHING OVERVIEW Hired as head coach for the Detroit Lions January 14, 2014. Coached in three Super Bowls with Indianapolis (XLI and XLIV) and Baltimore (XLVII) and won two Super Bowl titles (Indianapolis and Baltimore). In fi rst year as head coach for Indianapolis (2009), he won the AFC Championship and led the franchise to Super Bowl XLIV. He became the fi rst NFL coach to win his fi rst 14 games and the fi fth rookie head coach to reach the Super Bowl. One of four head coaches to produce 24+ regular-season wins and a Super Bowl berth in their fi rst two career seasons as head coach. Holds a 37-27 (.578) regular-season record in four seasons as an NFL head coach, including three seasons with at least 10 wins. Led the Colts to two consecutive AFC South division titles in 2009 and 2010. In eight of the 10 seasons Caldwell coached in Indianapolis, the Colts ranked in the Top-10 in total offense eight times and six times in the Top-5. From 2003-09, Caldwell was the Colts quarterbacks coach and was also promoted to assistant head coach and associate head coach during that time. He worked closely with QB Peyton Manning and the team s quarterbacks. During that span, Indianapolis set NFL records with seven consecutive seasons fi nishing with 11+ wins (6, Dallas 1976-81) and 12+ victories (4, Dallas, 1992-95). Two of his quarterbacks, Manning (Super Bowl XLI) and Ravens QB Joe Flacco (Super Bowl XLVII) were named Super Bowl MVPs following their teams respective championship runs. Led the Ravens offense to a 5-2 record after taking over as offensive coordinator late in the 2012 season as the team averaged 400.6 yards per game during that span. ASSEMBLING HIS TEAM In his fi rst season in Detroit, Caldwell wasted no time putting together his coaching staff. Headlining that search were the additions of defensive coordinator Teryl Austin and offensive coordinator Joe Lombardi, each of whom have won a Super Bowl with Baltimore and New Orleans, respectively. Combined, six of the 10 new Lions assistant coaches have won a Super Bowl championship. WELCOME, HEAD COACH JIM CALDWELL JIM CALDWELL Head Coach Years with Lions: 1 Years as NFL Head Coach: 4 Years in NFL: 14 NEW LIONS COACHES: Teryl Austin (Defensive Coordinator), Jim Bob Cooter (Quarterbacks), Devin Fitzsimmons (Assistant Special Teams), Joe Lombardi (Offensive Coordinator), Tony Oden (Defensive Backs/Cornerbacks), Robert Prince (Wide Receivers), Ron Prince (Assistant Head Coach/ Tight Ends), Matt Raich (Defensive Quality Control), Bill Sheridan (Linebackers), Alan Williams (Defensive Backs/ Safeties) RETAINED LIONS COACHES: Jason Arapoff (Coordinator of Physical Development), John Bonamego (Special Teams Coordinator), Gunther Cunningham (Senior Coaching Assistant), Terry Heffernan (Offensive Quality Control) Bobby Johnson (Assistant Offensive Line), Kris Kocurek (Defensive Line), Curtis Modkins (Running Backs) Ted Rath (Assistant Strength and Conditioning), Evan Rothstein (Special Projects), Jeremiah Washburn (Offensive Line), Jim Washburn (Defensive Line) LIONS HEAD COACHES 11 WINS By defeating the Bears 20-14 in Week 16 (12/21), Caldwell became the fi rst Lions head coach in his fi rst season with the club to win 11 games since Potsy Clark led the Portsmouth Spartans to an 11-3 record in 1931. By reaching 11 wins, Caldwell has tied Clark for the most wins by a head coach in his fi rst year with the Lions. He ll lead by making people accountable and by being a role model on and off the fi eld. And with his attention to detail and history of developing quarterbacks, (Matthew) Stafford is going to flourish just like Peyton Manning did with us in Indianapolis. Baltimore Ravens General Manager Ozzie Newsome: I believe it would be difficult to fi nd anyone with the Ravens who is more respected than Jim Caldwell. That includes players, coaches and other staff members. He earned that because of the person he is and his extensive knowledge about football, including the keys to winning and his ability to teach all of that. Personally, it is a privilege to know him, and it was an honor to work with him.

QUOTING THE LIONS HEAD COACH JIM CALDWELL On his initial scouting report on the Cowboys: I m not certain that we ve seen a more complete team, I m not certain. Just in terms of how explosive they are, the quarterback is certainly a strong MVP candidate, so is (DeMarco) Murray. They ve been able to run the ball extremely well, they ve been lighting it up on the outside. Dez Bryant is setting record after record in terms of touchdown catches. They have one of the best tight ends in the business. They have an offensive line that s incredible in terms of what they ve been able to accomplish. You know, all across the board this is a very, very good team and when you look at their defense, it s playing well, opportunistic. Then also, their kicking game. This is a real complete team and that s what happens during this time of the year when you get into the playoffs, that s the fun part about it. You get a chance to really play against the best and see how you match up. To me, it can t get any better than that. On how important LB DeAndre Levy is on the defense: He s been an outstanding performer. His running to the ball and making plays has been something that s really made a difference. He s part of that run-stopping outfi t up front that s been exceptional and I think obviously, some of that s tied in to the fact that they often times have to spend a little bit more time on those down guys. When they do, it gives him a free run where he can really get to the ball and he s a guy that s instinctive, tackles well and is tough. On if Cowboys RB DeMarco Murray has any similarities to Packers RB Eddie Lacy: The fact that they both are powerful backs with speed, downhill runners and highly productive, you know what I mean? Murray s been having a great year as well, so he ll be a tough guy to handle. On where this team is right now: Well, the fact is we re an 11-5 football team. We are what our record says we are. We re a playoff team, that s the brutal honesty of it. On what makes the Cowboys running game special: Most of the time in our league is that, what they do is they try to get into the right play versus the looks that you get them. So, that takes the quarterback s responsibility. They do a good job of that, putting their packages together according to your fronts and make adjustments accordingly. They have some schemes that they just block extremely well and then they have the counters off of it to give you an opposing look via the play-action pass, a naked or whatever it might be. They look the same. They re very difficult to get a beat on. The other thing is, they force you to play with an extra guy down to play somewhere in the vicinity and if they can do that, then you re unleashing a quarterback that s been lighting the world up because of that with the matchups that he has on the outside, single coverage and things of that nature. It kind of all ties in together and they do a great job of it. QB MATTHEW STAFFORD On where the team is heading into the playoffs I think, obviously, you watch every game and fi nd ways that you can get better, win, lose or draw. We re a battletested team and have won 11 football games this year. We found ways to win a lot if them and we ll continue to do that. We just have to move forward. On what the emphasis is heading into the playoffs this week: Find a way to win, that s what we do every week. That s our plan. Obviously, you watch this game, fi nd ways where you can get better, continue to progress in certain areas and just go out and play football. CALVIN JOHNSON On the level of disappointment after the loss to Green Bay: They had our number today, but like Coach said, New season begins. We re in the playoffs still, so go ahead and start focusing on what we got next week. On what the Packers did defensively to contain the offense: Something that we re going to have to go back and watch fi lm on. Obviously, they did some good things, created a turnover, they limited some big plays, so other than that the rest of it we re going to have to fi gure out on fi lm. RASHEAN MATHIS On the defense s performance against Green Bay: We just didn t play well all around. We had some spurts. They had some spurts as well, but we gave up some plays that hurt us. When you are in a hostile environment, it is hard to recover from that. We could have played better. On preparing for the playoffs: This game is behind us now. We made the playoffs, so to drop our heads about this one is hazardous to our future. We earned a berth in the playoffs before this game. Did we want this game? Did we want a division title? Yes, defi nitely, but we are in the playoffs and it is a new season now.

2 The Lions defense fi nished the 2014 NFL season ranking second overall in total defense behind only Seattle (267.1 yards/game), allowing 300.9 yards per game. The No. 2 defense ranking to fi nish the season is the highest for the Lions since 1970. 3 By earning a playoff berth in 2014 (NFC Wild Card), Head Coach Jim Caldwell became just the third Detroit head coach to lead the Lions to the playoffs in his fi rst season with the club, joining George Wilson (1957) and Bobby Ross (1997) as the only coaches to accomplish this feat in franchise history. 5 Detroit completed the regular season with a 5-1 record against NFC North opponents this year, which is the team s best divisional record since realignment in 2002. 7 S Glover Quin fi nished the 2014 season with a League-best seven interceptions. Quin became the fi rst Lions player to lead the NFL in interceptions since Hall of Fame Lem Barney in 1967 when he registered 10 during his exceptional rookie campaign. 9 With nine division wins (9-3 record) over the past two seasons, the Lions have won the most divisional games over two seasons since 1997-98 when the Lions won 10. Nine wins are the most over two seasons in the division since realignment in 2002 when each team began playing six divisional games each season. 11 With 10 tackles (eight solo) at Green Bay (12/28) in the season fi nale, LB DeAndre Levy recorded 10+ tackles in his 11th game this season. Levy and LB Chris Spielman (13, 1994) are the only linebackers for the Lions since 1994 to register 10+ tackles in at least 10 games during a season (according to Stats, LLC). Levy registered 10+ tackles in 11 of the Lions 16 games this season, which is also the most in the NFL this season. 14 The Lions tied an NFL record for the most games (14) holding opponents to less than 100 rushing yards in a season. The 14 games limiting opponents to less than 100 rushing yards is also a franchise record. 17 Second-year Darius Slay led the team in pass defenses this season with 17 as he also fi nished in the Top 10 in the NFL (9t). His 17 pass defenses also rank second among players in the fi rst or second year behind only Minnesota Xavier Rhodes (18). 17.6 The Lions fi nished the season with the No. 3 defense in terms of points allowed, allowing only 17.6 points per game in 2014. The Lions held opponents to 17 points or less in 11 games this season. The Lions 11 games of allowing 17 points or less are the second-most accumulated in a season by Detroit in team history. The team record is 12 in 1934. LIONS BY THE NUMBERS 21 With one tackle for loss (TFL) at Green Bay, Ndamukong Suh fi nished the season with a career-high 21 TFLs and surpassed Hall of Fame Warren Sapp for the most TFLs by a defensive tackle since at least 2000. Suh s 21 TFLs were the third-most in the NFL in 2014 and the highest among defensive tackles this season. 69.3 Detroit fi nished the season yielding 1,109 rushing yards, and became the ninth team in NFL history to fi nish the season allowing less than 70 yards rushing per game. In 16 games, the Lions allowed 69.3 rushing yards per game and fi nished with the ninth-best opponent rushing yards allowed per game average in NFL history. 75 With two touchdowns in Week 17 at Green Bay (12/28), Calvin Johnson reached 75 total touchdowns (74 receiving, 1 rushing) for his career and joined Hall of Fame RB Barry Sanders (109) as the only Lions players to record 75 career total touchdowns. 87.4 With 119 career games, Johnson holds the NFL all-time record for receiving yards per game. His 39 yards against the Packers moved his career average to 87.4 yards per game (10,405 yards). 536 Newly-acquired Golden Tate fi nished his fi rst season in Detroit ranking second in the NFL in third-down receiving yards with 536 behind only Steelers Antonio Brown s 549. 720 Tate also led all NFL wide receivers with 720 yards after the catch this season, and ranked third among all players behind only Bears RB Matt Forte and Steelers RB Le Veon Bell. 1,000 With Johnson (1,077) reaching 1,000 receiving yards, he joined Tate (1,331) in the surpassing of 1,000 receiving yards in season. They become the fi rst pair of Lions receivers to both reach 1,000 receiving yards in the same season since 2006 ( Roy Williams, 1310; Mike Furrey, 1,086). 4,000 With 4,257 passing yards this season QB Matthew Stafford Stafford joined QB Peyton Manning (5) and Hall of Fame QB Dan Marino (4) as the only passers in NFL history with four 4,000-yard seasons in a passer s fi rst six years in the League. 20,000 On Stafford s 30-yard completion to Tate in the second quarter at Arizona (11/16), he surpassed 20,000 career passing yards. By reaching 20,000 career passing yards in his 71st career game, he set a new NFL record reaching that mark in the fewest career games. (Courtesy Elias Sports Bureau). His current total stands at 21,714.

Since QB Hits were fi rst added to press box total in NFL Gamebooks in 2006, the 114 QB Hits are the most by the Lions, behind only the team s 100 QB Hits in 2012, in the past nine seasons. In Week 14 vs. Tampa Bay, the Lions tallied a seasonhigh 14 QB hits, which also ranks as the highest singlesingle game total since 2006. 2014 NFL Leaders, Combined Sacks and Interceptions Rk Tm Sk Int Total 1 Buf 54 19 73 2 NYG 47 17 64 3 Det 42 20 62 2014 NFL Leaders, Opponent Passer Rating Rk Tm Att Cmp Pct Yds TD TD% Int Int% Rtg 1 Cle 587 335 57.1 3592 22 3.7 21 3.6 74.1 2 Buf 559 337 60.3 3292 16 2.9 19 3.4 74.5 3 Cin 608 365 60.0 3888 18 3.0 20 3.3 75.8 4 SF 551 324 58.8 3531 29 5.3 23 4.2 79.5 5 Sea 507 313 61.7 2970 17 3.4 13 2.6 80.4 6 Hou 619 363 58.6 3890 28 4.5 20 3.2 80.4 7 GB 564 333 59.0 3623 26 4.6 18 3.2 82.0 8 Den 642 399 62.1 3607 29 4.5 18 2.8 82.3 9 Det 592 383 64.7 3706 23 3.9 20 3.4 83.0 10 NE 574 342 59.6 3837 24 4.2 16 2.8 84.0 2014 NFL Leaders, QB Hits* Rk Tm QH 1t Det 114 1t Hou 114 3 Bal 110 * Based on press box totals

By starting against Chicago on Thanksgiving, Raiola became the fi rst player in Lions history to start 200 games. He holds the team record for career starts, which he set at Arizona (11/16) by surpassing LB Wayne Walker who started 197 games from 1958-72. Raiola is now the fi fth active player in the NFL who has started 200 games. By playing in Week 1 vs. the Giants, Raiola officially played in his 14th NFL season and tied Hall of Fame Dick LeBeau for third on the Lions all-time list for career seasons played. It was Stafford s fourth game-winning TD pass in the fi nal 30 seconds of the fourth quarter. Stafford shares this mark with six players: Steve Bartkowski, Drew Bledsoe, Tom Brady, Brett Favre, Joe Ferguson, and Tommy Kramer, all of whom started at least 100 regular-season games. Stafford 4 76 2009- STAFFORD S GAME WINNING DRIVES Throughout his career, Stafford has proven the ability to bring the team from behind to claim victory and perform great in the closing minutes of the game. Thus far, Stafford has led the Lions to 17 victories when trailing or tied in the fourth quarter or overtime. He has six career game-winning touchdown passes with less than one minute to play in fourth quarter (franchise record) and six after the two-minute warning. With the Lions trailing 14-13 in the fourth quarter with 7:43 remaining in the game against Minnesota (12/14), Stafford led the Lions on a 10-play drive, which started at the Lions own 20-yard line, covered 65 yards and culminated with a 33-yard fi eld goal by K Matt Prater. This was also the fourth time this season Stafford has led a game-winning drive. Stafford s four-game winning drives in the fourth quarter or overtime match a career-single season high, equaling the four he accomplished in 2011. Down 16-13 with 3:13 left to play in Week 10 vs. Miami (11/9), Stafford led the team on an 11-play, 74-yard drive that was capped off with an 11-yard touchdown pass to RB Theo Riddick. Stafford escaped the pocket and threw against his body as Riddick grabbed the game-winning score in the left corner of the end zone. The Lions comeback win over Atlanta in Week 8 (10/26) marked the second time in Stafford s career that he has led a fourth-quarter game-winning drive that ended on the scoring play as time expired at the end of regulation. The other occasion came on his fi rst career gamewinning drive as a rookie when he threw a one-yard pass to defeat the Cleveland Browns on November 22, 2009. CAREER YARDS With 21,714 career passing yards, Stafford is the Lions alltime leader in career yards and the only Lions QB to reach 20,000 career yards. With 362 in Week 11 at Pittsburgh last season (11/17/13), Stafford broke the previous record of 15,710 held by Layne, which has stood for 55 seasons (1958). Stafford achieved this record in only 55 career games. Layne reached 15,710 yards in 97 career games. On Stafford s 30-yard completion to Golden Tate in the second quarter at Arizona (11/16), he surpassed 20,000 career passing yards. By reaching 20,000 career passing yards in his 71st career game, he set a new NFL record reaching that mark in the fewest career games. (Courtesy Elias Sports Bureau).
