September 2011 NEWS Hawg Hawlers Written by Pam Wakim Rich Shaw and Jason Shaw Win Table Rock Rich Shaw and Jason Shaw took first place at our Table Rock tournament held September 10th and 11th. They caught their fish on flukes and Pop R s. They weighed in five fish and on Saturday when the most any of the other thirteen boats weighed in was two! To say the fishing was tough is an understatement. They weren t able to bring any to the scales on Sunday but their 8.55 pounds held up for the first place win. Be sure to check out their winning strategy on page 4. First place payout was $206. Congratulation Rich and Jason! First Place Jason Shaw & Rich Shaw 5 fish, 8.55 pounds, $206 Table Rock Tournament Hawg Hawlers couldn t have had any better weather for the Table Rock tournament but the fishing was another story. The temperatures cooled down in the 50 s at night and into the high 70 s in the afternoon. The lake was at normal pool with water temps running around 77 degrees and the water was clear. Thirteen boats and twenty six anglers weighed in a grand total of, can you believe it? 21 bass! Greg and Andy Shands organized the wienie roast on Saturday night at Holiday Hideaway Resort. We had plenty of brauts & chips and Lori Stanek brought us some rye bread and dip. Once again everything was delicious. Thanks you everyone! And thank you Holiday Hideaway Resort!

Next Tournament Lake of the Ozarks October 1 & 2 Take off will be out of Runaway II Resort. Call Runaway II at (800-468-1655) for a reservation. We will fish 8 hours on Saturday 7:00am to 3:00pm and Sunday 7:00am to 1:00pm. Get your entry to Dan by Wednesday, September 28. Our 2010 Ozark tournament was won by Pam Wakim and Bob Treadway. They had 16 fish weighing 23.51 lbs. The team was throwing swim baits, jerk baits and crankbaits (color sexy shad). Other baits that worked were wave worms and white spinnerbaits. Mike Parmentier won Big Bass both days caught on wave worms - 3.10 & 3.58 lbs. Sat. was WINDY & cool but Sunday was nice. The water temps were in the low 70 s & the water was heavily stained.
The Winning Strategy From my interview with Rich Shaw. I know the area of the lake we would be fishing but I normally fish Table Rock in the spring. Prior to the tournament I listened to Pete Wenners fishing report so I got a few ideas from the report and had a few of my own. Our plan was to fish top water in the mornings and go to deeper diving crankbaits later in the day. My son likes to throw a Pop R and I threw a buzzbait. We caught fish with those both mornings. My favorite bait is a fluke and since it was overcast on Saturday I picked one up instead of going to the deep diving cranks and found the fish were hitting those close to the bank. My son also caught a lot of fish on a sexy shad crankbait that ran about eight foot deep. We were fishing up around the second larger island. There is a nice pocket I fish a lot just past the island on the right (a creek runs into it). On Saturday we thought about making a run up around Schooner Creek but decided to fish the end of the tournament near Holiday Hideaway. That s where I picked up our last keeper, a small mouth caught on a wave worm/senko type bait. We got lucky on Saturday bringing in five keepers. They all barely hit the fifteen inch mark. On Sunday we had at least five that probably weighed more than the ones we brought in on Saturday but they were under fifteen inches. Rich, thanks for sharing your winning strategy and congratulations you guys! Big Bass of the Year & Angler of the Year Race Big Bass of the Year so far belongs to Michael Parmentier, Jr. Michael is currently in seventh place in the AOY standings and will surely end up on the 2011 Top Ten list. His big bass weighed 6.63 pounds and was caught April 10th at the spring Lake of the Ozarks tournament. All I can say is that Michael has one more tournament to sweat it out but my prediction is that he will be awarded that Big Bass of the Year trophy. Good luck Michael! If my calculations are correct the final competition is down to Greg Shands, Andy Shands and Mike Parmentier. Good luck to all of you! Mike fished all of the tournaments and is in third place with 180 points. He has 24 attendance points, 42 bass for 126 creel points, 18 place points, two big bass for 9 big bass points and 3 tournament director points. Andy fished all of the tournaments and is in second place with 189 points. He has 24 attendance points, 46 bass for 138 creel points, 24 place points and 3 tournament director points. Greg is in first place and has been since the first Ozark tournament. He fished all of the tournaments for 24 attendance points, weighed in 50 bass for 150 creel points, placed in six tournaments for 24 place points, had big bass three times for 13 big bass points plus his 3 points for serving as a tournament director for a total 214 points. Greg is always up there in the standings and is one of the best anglers in Hawg Hawlers Bass Club. The 50 bass he caught is the highest number for a tournament season by any angler in Hawg Hawlers history and he has one more tournament to go. (The previous high was 44 caught by Dave Sona in 2003.) My prediction is that the AOY trophy is going home with Greg. Good luck to everyone! 2011 Awards Dinner Every fall Hawg Hawlers Bass Club conducts its annual Awards Dinner.
