Dear Friends and Fellow Cattlemen We would like to extend a sincere thank you to all who attended our First Edition Bull Sale last February. It was very gratifying to see the seats full of enthusiastic cattle and horse men. It s hard to believe that what started with a small group of Charolais heifers as a little sideline, is now the mainstay of our livelihood. We have always believed in producing cattle with the commercial cattleman and the consumer in mind. We call them cattle that fit all segments of the industry. Seeing the calves and hearing the feedback on the bulls we have sold is proof to us that our choice to increase our Charolais numbers was a good one. In 2011 we saw record high prices for calves, much higher fed cattle prices and consistent cull prices. As we enjoy this upturn we must still keep in mind that keeping a quality cow herd is essential to maintaining that premium. Each sector of our industry is seeing higher prices including our consumers who expect to get the utmost quality for their dollar. We believe that the pendulum has settled in the middle and as beef producers we must continue to push for moderate framed cattle with muscle and marbling ability. Producing cattle with a good balance of these traits and consistent body type will have an impact on the economics of the industry down the line from cow/ calf producer to consumer. The cross of Continental cattle and British bred cattle will always withstand the true test of time. As a seed stock producer we are always looking to find the bloodlines that work well for all our customers. We believe the group of bulls we have put together for the 2012 bull sale will work well in any herd. The introduction of JSR Trophy 88T into our breeding program has produced some top notch bulls. All said, we feel this group of bulls is one of the best the industry has to offer. They will get out and travel, get the job done and come home in good shape. They truly are Bulls that fit the Industry. Again we are pleased to have Doug, Bev and John Robertson of Coldstream Angus as a guest consignor at the sale. In addition we would like to welcome Garth Cutler of Circle G Simmentals & Angus as a guest consignor. His set of reputation red and black bulls will certainly complement the sale. In addition to a great group of bulls there will also be well broke Quarter horse geldings from some of our bull customers. We hope to see you sale day. Guest Consignor Circle G simmentals & angus Circle G Simmentals/Angus is proud to be part of the P&H Ranching Co. Ltd. & Guests Bull Sale. I ran into Duane at the Red Deer UFA store last November and had a coffee and visit with him. He called me that same night and insisted that I put some bulls in their sale. I was a bit hesitant so Duane drove up and viewed the bulls a couple of days later and convinced me that I should be part of this sale... I was recruited! It s a good fit as I share similar goals with P&H and Coldstream Angus as we all strive to produce cattle that work well for others... functional, moderate framed, low maintenance breeding stock that will survive anywhere and most importantly be profitable for our customers. We were all longterm consigners to the Calgary Bull Sale who fared very well in the show and sale rings, but found the need to host our own sale to satisfy our customers. As many are aware, I worked with my sister and brother-in-law, Debbie and Cam Sissons (D Bar C Cattle Co.), in developing a 450 head cowherd and hosting a very successful annual bull sale for many years. In 2010 we dispersed the cowherd as Debbie and Cam had decided to persue the opportunity to work with Cam s parents and brother in their very good fuel tank leasing business. I retained the cows ten years of age and older, some that I owned outright and purchased thirty head out of the dispersal sale. My Simmental, Angus and Hereford cowherd numbers around 100 head and the plan was to sell bulls privately on the farm until this sale opportunity came about. The Circle G bulls won t be carrying any excess condition as they were weaned October 22 and then ran on greenfeed swaths until mid November. When recruited for this sale, the bulls were started on a silage based TMR ration. No creepfeed is used and no feet have been trimmed. As this sale takes place before most of the bulls are 12 months old, they will return to the farm after the sale and will be semen tested in March when they have matured more and the weather has warmed up.
