Golf News Santa Claus Open Results This year s Santa Claus Open unfortunately had to be rescheduled to the 15th because of weather. Even with the date change, we still saw 126 people tee it up for the last tournament of the year! And it was another familiar name at the top of the leader board. Congratulations to the team of Bubba Gwyn, Christy Gwyn, Greg Ryan, and Kathy Ryan for their victory as Low Net Champions with a team score of 50.6! The Gross Championship was won by another familiar team; Rodes Bowers, Greg Hamilton, Ryan Trocchio, and Taylor Smith shot a team score of 55 (17 under!). Congratulations to our winners and we really appreciate everyone who came out to support the event. Also, a big thank you to everyone who was kind enough to donate a new toy to the Gwinnett County Department of Children & Family Services. Every toy counts! *Reminder* Club House will be closed for all food and beverage service on Tuesday & Wednesday, January 15 & 16 for annual club house cleaning, painting, etc. *Course will remain open as normal* Gross Results 1st Rodes Bowers, Greg Hamilton, Ryan Trocchio, Taylor Smith 55 2nd Kyle Beauchamp, Michael Bennett, Andrew Melton, Wes Nobles 58 Net Results 1st Bubba Gwyn, Christy Gwyn, Greg Ryan, Kathy Ryan 50.6 2nd John Cahill, Andrew Dunbar, Phillip Mardis, Brian Webb 54.9 3rd Charles Conrose, John Greiner, Chris Hogan, Bob Kontur 55.5 4th Craig Barrs, Andy Hutchinson, Ross Nelson, Chris Saehler 55.6 T-5th Cliff Leach, Guy Milliken, Chris Trocchio, John Williams 56.2 T-5th Russ Coddington, Rich Dundon, Jim McDevitt, Gary Young 56.2 7th Mason Lutz, Ransom Lutz, Rhys Lutz, Thomas Lutz 56.2 8th Paul Dillon, Ed Godbey, Jeff Rummel, John Small 56.6

Golf News Weather Hotline Please check the weather hotline daily to hear about course conditions for any delays. 770-448-2008 ext. 3333. 2019 Tournament Calendar Coming Soon! We are finalizing the 2019 Golf Tournament calendar very soon. More information on tournament dates to be posted when finalized. Annual Pull Cart Fees We will be renewing all Annual Pull Cart fees starting January 1st. If you are interested in purchasing an Annual Pull Cart or would like to discontinue using your current Pull Cart, please contact the golf shop! Congratulations to Berkeley s own Taylor Smith Taylor Smith has been named the Men s Georgia State Golf Association Player of the Year for 2018! Taylor won the Georgia Mid-Am Championship at Piedmont Driving Club and finished tied for 8th at the Georgia Amateur Championship. Taylor is also our reigning Men s Club Championship. It was quite the year for Taylor in 2018, congratulations! New Golf Rule Changes! A new year and some new rules to learn! Beginning January 1st, the United States Golf Association will introduce and enforce their newest Rules for Golf. There has been a large overhaul to the current rules along with new ones introduced. A great place to learn these new rules would be on the USGA s website, usga.org. We in the golf shop are always here to help as well, so if you are confused or still unsure about a new rule, please stop by in the Golf Shop and we ll help you get straightened out. We also plan on having a rules clinic with date TBD in the near future. Superintendent News January 2019 Usually every January is when we begin to monitor the weather to decide when it is time to cover greens. Over the past 14 years, we have learned a lot about when to cover. At the beginning we used to cover each day it was going to be cold, but now that they have aged, I feel they can handle the weather much better than expected. We will always let them get frosted up first. This helps in the hardening off effect. We now look at daytime temperatures, besides only looking at nighttime temperatures. For example, if the daytime temperatures are sunny and hi of 55 or more and that night may get down to 26, we more than likely will not cover, but if the daytime temperature mid 40 s or lower and that night is 28, we will cover. What I am trying to judge is the length of frozen time on the grass. Once we get our first frost, I begin to leave messages on the Course Conditions Hotline, which is 770-448-2008 ext. 3333. On that message I will say if there is a delay and if we will be covering greens that afternoon. If the day comes for us to cover greens, we begin no later than 4:00 on #1 and #10. If the Proshop feels that not many people will be out to play due to the weather, they will allow us to cover earlier. The longer the grass is under the sun with the covers on it, the better chance of survival thru the winter becomes. If you have noticed, we have begun to add 3-4 inches of sand to the bunkers. It will take a couple of months to complete due to that will have other daily jobs that we have to accomplish also. The sand will be soft until it fully settles, which can take up to 6 months. If you have any questions, please ask. Chris Purvis Hole in One Matt Kubis - Hole-in-one on 12-29 on #4
