With a 19-12 win over Gardner- Webb, the Highlanders picked up their first Big South Conference victory in program history. Radford defeated Presbyterian, 18-6, in Clinton, S.C., for its first ever victory on the road. NEW KIDS IN TOWN ::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::: In only its second season as a program, the Radford women s lacrosse team has fielded 23 players in 2017 after having just 18 last season. However, the Highlanders have brought in 11 freshmen, including two redshirt-freshmen. Nine of the 11 have been in the starting lineup at least one time this season. SERIES HISTORY ::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::: The Highlanders and Campbell squared off for the first time last season in Buies Creek, N.C., and Radford fell 20-6. Radford faced the nation s leading scorer and she scored eight of the 20 goals. Adrian Rius was on fire after scoring three goals and securing four draw controls. HALEY MARVINE Head Coach :: 2nd at Radford... HALEY MARVINE Haley Marvine was announced as Radford s inaugural head women s lacrosse coach on Oct. 7, 2014. The Highlanders began competition in the Big South Conference in the spring of 2016. Marvine is no stranger to the process of building a lacrosse program and promoting the emerging sport of women s lacrosse with both experience as a head coach and a student-athlete. She comes to Radford from Transylvania University in Lexington, Ky. where she is the only coach the Pioneers have had in two seasons of competition. In those two seasons against more established programs, Marvine led the Pioneers to a 12-13 overall record, including a 7-7 mark in 2014. As a Big East Conference All-Academic student-athlete at the University of Cincinnati, Marvine was a four-year member of the first Bearcats lacrosse teams where she was a standout goalkeeper and team captain. She earned a degree in sports management from Cincinnati in 2011. A native of Alpharetta, Ga., Marvine s coaching experience also includes several elite camps, including the Nike Cup Syracuse Camp and high-profile on-campus camps at Notre Dame, Duke, and Georgia Tech. She also coached at the club level in the Cincinnati metropolitan area for Natilax helping grow the sport in middle and high schools. COACH MARVINE: INSIDE THE NUMBERS COACHING TIMELINE School Overall Conference Role Postseason 2013 Transylvania 5-6 Head Coach 2014 Transylvania 7-7 Head Coach 2016 Radford 1-14 0-8 Head Coach 2017 Radford 6-9 2-4 Head Coach Overall 4th season 19-36 2-12 I am excited to get back to the Division I level. It s where I played collegiately and where I feel most at home, Marvine said. Having started the program at Transylvania at the Division III level, I am thrilled with the opportunity to start up another program, but this time at the Division I level at Radford with the resources available to a Division I program. It s all about recruiting, Marvine said about the challenge of starting a program. That s a big part of any coach s job, but when you are establishing a program, you are recruiting a little differently because you are getting players that are going to all play right away. I went through that at Cincinnati as a prospective student-athlete, so I can relate to the young women we are going to recruit in the beginning at RU. You also have to surround yourself with good people, so my first job is to put together a staff that can bring the best student-athletes possible to Radford. What they are saying about haley marvine We are looking forward to having a very competitive team in the Big South Conference and believe Haley will do an outstanding job leading the program. - Robert Lineburg, Radford Director of Athletics Coach Marvine was able to come into a successful NCAA Division III program in a state with little to no knowledge of lacrosse and start a collegiate program that in its second year had a.500 season. She is a relentless worker who will be able to build on her successes at Transylvania and do the same at Radford. We hate to lose her but are grateful for the building blocks she has laid to continue our success here. - Holly Sheilley, Transylvania University Director of Athletics 4.. GAME 16 CAMPBELL
