LOOK BEYOND SEE BEYOND is a project supported by Wexford Co Council. The events have been designed to be as flexible as possible in order to allow you to choose which sessions you would like to attend. This programme contains details of times and locations for all presentations, drop-in sessions and break-out events. We strongly advise you to plan your visit in advance so that you know which sessions you want to attend and can work out your own personal events schedule. When doing so, please remember to allow some time for moving around between sessions and also give yourself some time out to grab a coffee or something to eat and to visit the many exhibition stands located at the venue. There is something for everybody at LOOK BEYOND - SEE BEYOND. At the events you will have Access to the latest technologies and resources for all abilities with stands displaying assistive devices, adaptive sports equipment etc An expert panel of speakers to present and answer disability-related questions Informative workshops on issues that resonate with the local community Activities like adaptive sport, assistive animal demos and much more TV screens will play DVDs showing people using assistive devices and partaking in various activities at home and abroad. The RTÉ series IN YOUR SHOES and TWO FOR THE ROAD are two examples.
WORKSHOPS One of the key components of the project will be talks by an expert panel of invited guests including sports, travel and educational professionals. Some of these will run parallel. BREAKOUT SESSIONS AND EVENTS 13:40 Blind Football Ireland v Wexford Co. Council, Wexford Youth s Football Club, Ferrycarrig, Wexford. Blind Football is played on a hard surface 20m by 40m with kickboards on both sides of the pitch running the length of the pitch. The game uses a ball with ball bearings in it to allow the ball to make a noise and give the players the chance to know where the ball is. It is a 5-v-5 game with all 4 outfield players fully blind wearing eye patches and blindfolds to ensure no light gets in. 14:15 Cara Adapted Physical Activity Centre & Ken Black, Independent Advisor, Inclusive Physical Education and Activity - Scoil Mhuire National School, Wexford The CARA Adapted Physical Activity Centre Ltd works at a strategic level to influence and support policies and programmes of agencies involved in the provision of sport, physical activity and physical education for people with disabilities. 14:30 - Advantage Wheelchair Tennis v Wexford County Council - Wexford Harbour Boat & Tennis Club, Carcur, Wexford Wheelchair tennis is one of the forms of tennis adapted for those who have disabilities in their lower bodies. The size of courts, balls, and rackets are the same, but there are two major differences from pedestrian tennis; athletes use specially designed wheelchairs and the ball may bounce up to two times. 15:30 Gaelic Warriors Wheelchair Rugby - Scoil Mhuire National School, Wexford Quad Rugby is a team sport for athletes with a disability.
