Baxendale pitch, but the University of Arkansas product did not disappoint. In 5.1 innings, Baxendale struck out eight, seven swinging, in his first professional start picking up the victory in a 1-0 win over the Jupiter Hammerheads on April 9. A 10th round pick of Minnesota last year, Baxendale appeared in 17 games in 2012 split between Elizabethton (R) and Beloit (A). Over 18.2 innings as a reliever, Baxendale fanned 31. Miracle bust out the broom early in 2013 Manager Doug Mientkiewicz has begun his Miracle managing career with a perfect record of 5-0 including a sweep of the Bradenton Marauders in a back-and-forth home-and-home series. The Miracle edged Bradenton by one run in the first and last games of the series, 4-3 and 9-8 in 10 innings. In the middle two games, the Miracle won 4-1 and 10-6. Fort Myers put up 19 runs and 26 hits in the final two games. Sweeps have been rare for the Miracle in recent years. The only sweep for Fort Myers in 2012 was over three games against the Jupiter Hammerheads on April 9-11. The Miracle also defeated Bradenton on April 12, 2012 to complete a four-game winning streak. The last time the Miracle had a four-game sweep of an opponent was the first four games of 2011. On Saturday, April 6, Sano reached base in all five plate appearances going 3-for-4 with a walk, two singles, a double and reaching on an error. On Sunday, Sano was 3-for-6 with two singles and a double. In the first inning on Tuesday, Sano blasted a 2-1 pitch from Jupiter starter Jose Urena well beyond the fence in left for his first homer and RBI as a member of the Miracle. The 6-4, 236-pound third baseman has also been superb in the field. In 17 chances, Sano has been perfect while showing off considerable range and a strong, accurate arm. The top prospect in the Minnesota organizationa according to Baseball America, Sano hit 28 home runs and drove in 100 runs for Beloit (A) last year on the way to being named the Prospect of the Year in the Midwest League. Miracle start the season 5-0 for first time since 2006 Fort Myers is 5-0 to begin a season for the first time since the 2006 season when the Miracle started the year 6-0. Fort Myers also started the 2005 season 6-0. The 2005 team featured Denard Span, Nick Blackburn, Anthony Swarzak and Glen Perkins.
