The BC Open is sanctioned by Judo BC. DATES: Friday April 17 (Kata) & Saturday April 18 (Shiai), 2015 LOCATION: START TIME: REFEREE CLINIC: Vernon Curling Club, 3400-39 th Ave Vernon, BC 10:00 am 9:30 am HEAD REFEREE: Les Kotani, International Referee ENTRY FEES: SHIAI $40 per entry (or $30 for U10/U12) payable by club cheque at weigh-in. Contestants entering a second division pay an additional $15, with participation limited to two divisions. For KATA, the fee is $40 per team, regardless of the number of divisions entered. The kata team fee is $20 if one member is also in the individual shiai competitions and waived if both are in individual competitions. ELIGIBILITY: All participants must be in good standing with their respective Judo organizations. For all out-of-province contestants, the attached waiver form must be completed and signed by the competitors and, in the case of minors (under 19 years of age), by their parent/guardian. Masters entrants (35 years of age and older) must complete attached medical form. ENTRY LISTS: Please enter each contestant s information completely and accurately on the club s entry list(s), especially the exact weight. Refer to WEIGH-IN below for $10.00 change fee. DRAWS: RULES: Modified double elimination. Divisions with three (3) competitors or less will compete in a round robin. RULES FOR ROUND ROBIN Three (3) contestants if tied, by wins first, then by points. Two (2) contestants best two out of three wins. ONE COMPETITOR May accept medal for division OR compete in the next higher weight division if desired, with permission of coach. The BC OPEN TOURNAMENT will be governed by current: IJF Refereeing Rules Judo Canada Modifications Judo Canada Sanctioning Policy and Tournament Standards If a conflict should arise, the decision of the member(s) of the Judo BC Referee Committee in attendance will prevail. Notes: a) Any competitor diagnosed with a concussion in the past 12 months must have a letter of clearance to participate from a physician. b) Divisions 1 to 44, novice and masters: greater leniency will be allowed for medical interventions and decisions (in the event of a tie) will be based on best-of-three judging rather than golden score. c) No kansetsu or shime waza for matches where a yellow or orange belt competes against a green belt or higher. d) Rest time for competitors for next contest will be equal to match time. e) White judogi mandatory. Blue gi is encouraged but only to be worn by competitor called second. NEW White and Blue judogi both required for competitors U16 and older this requirement waived for novice (yellow and orange belt) competitors. 3 P a g e
REFERREE EVALUATION: Provincial C, and D referee evaluations to be held. Those wishing to be evaluated can register by email to vernonjudo@gmail.com no later than March 31, 2015. WEIGH-IN: ALL CONTESTANTS must weigh in by their designated times for their respective divisions. Divisions are as designated by Judo Canada standard for Juvenile, Junior and Senior men and women. On site, early weigh-in available as described below. PLEASE NOTE: a $10.00 change fee will be assessed to each contestant failing to make weight for each division(s) entered. Early weigh-in: FRIDAY, APRIL 17, 2015 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at the tournament site. We recommend contestants take advantage of early weighin. Weigh-in Saturday April 18, 2015 at the tournament site 7:00 am to 7:30 am: - unofficial weigh-in for all competitors 7:30 am to 8:30 am: official weigh-in for Divisions 1 to 44 8:30 am to 9:15 am: official weigh-in for Divisions 45 to 89 9:15 am to 10:00 am: official weigh-in for Divisions 90 to 150 KATA: Competition starts 7PM Friday April 17 There are five kata divisions: 3-Set Nage no Kata 5-Set Nage no Kata Goshin Jutsu Ju no Kata Katame no Kata Mark 3K, 5K, GJ, JK or KK on the entry form and list tori s name first. Note early entry deadline (April 9) for kata to ensure that teams have competition and that judging can be coordinated. Note that 3-Set Nage no Kata is not a Judo BC points division.
