ONTARIO FJORD HORSE SHOW There will be an Ontario Fjord Horse Show on the weekend of October 5 and 6, 2013, held at Buckhorn Riding Academy near Peterborough, Ontario. CLASS DESCRIPTIONS Novice Classes Novice horse classes are open to green horses and/or green riders and drivers. Junior 18 years and under. Classes 1 and 2 Showmanship Each handler shall be judged on his/her ability to present the horse. Handlers to show their horses over a pattern chosen by the judge. The pattern will be posted at least one hour prior to the class. Handlers may show in English or Western attire: gloves are optional and coats may be excused by the judge. Horses may be shown in halter or bridle. To be judged in order of importance: showmanship (showing, leading, poise, alertness, and attitude) and presentation (grooming and conditioning). Classes 3, 4, 5, 6, 7 and 8 Halter All horses shown in Halter Classes must be CFHA or NFHR registered or registration pending. Horses to be shown in hand at a walk and trot at the judge s direction. Horses may be shown in halter or bridle. Class 9 Lead line Open to children 11 years old and under. To be shown at a walk and a very slow trot or jog. Classes 10 and 12 Adult and Junior Pleasure Riding To be shown at a walk, trot or jog, and canter or lope, both ways of the ring. To be judged on manners, performance and suitability of horse to rider. Classes 11 and 13 Adult and Junior Equitation To be shown at a walk, trot or jog, and canter or lope, both ways of the ring. May be asked to do individual tests at the judge s discretion. To be judged on seat, legs, hands and overall appearance. 1
Class 14 Novice Walk Trot Pleasure To be shown at a walk, trot or jog, both ways of the ring. To be judged on manners, performance and suitability of horse to rider. Class 15 Novice Walk Trot Equitation To be shown at the walk, trot or jog, both ways of the ring. To be judged on seat, legs, hands, and overall appearance. NOTE: DRIVING CLASSES: PAIRS WILL BE SHOWN WITH SINGLES Classes 16 and 17 Driven Cones Horses to be driven through a series of cones in this timed event. There will be a 5 second penalty for each ball knocked off a cone. The horse with the fastest time wins. Class 18 Costume Class Open to all ages. Put your imagination to work to create a costume for you and your Fjord. Placings will be awarded at the judge s discretion. Classes 19 and 21 Pleasure Driving To be shown at walk, slow trot, working trot and strong trot both ways of the ring. To be judged 70% on performance, manners and way of going, 20% on condition and fit of harness, and 10% on neatness of attire. Classes 20 and 22 Reinsmanship To be shown at walk, slow trot, working trot and strong trot both ways of the ring. An exhibitor may be asked to perform an individual test to show his/her skill as a driver. Judged 75% on driver s use of aids (i.e. voice, reins, whip) and 25% on turnout. Drivers will be required to rein back. Class 23 Novice Over Poles To be shown over a minimum of 8 fences with poles on the ground. Class 24 Novice Over Cross Rails To be shown over a minimum of 8 fences with the rails at a maximum height of 18 inches. Class 25 Open Hunter Over Fences (2 ʹ) To be shown over a minimum of 8 fences. Judged on performance, soundness, and manners. Class 26 Open Jumper Over Fences (2ʹ 3ʺ) To be shown over a minimum of 8 fences. Judged on performance, soundness and manners. Class 27 Open Hunter Hack (1 jump) To be shown at a walk, trot, and canter both ways of the ring. Horses are also required to jump one 2ʹ fence. To be judged on performance, manners, and soundness. 2
Class 28 Log Skidding Open to all. To be shown in work harness. Course consists of 5 cones at 20 ʹ apart, set up with balls on the cones. There will be a 5 second penalty for each cone knocked down. The exhibitor crosses the start/finish line, zigzags through the five cones, goes around the fifth cone, and zigzags back to the finish line. The shortest time is the winner. The driver may not cross a cone, but must follow in the path of the log. Class 29 Farm Class Open to all. To be shown in work harness over a course of obstacles at a walk while pulling a log. The obstacles will be 6ʺ wider than the single tree. After passing the starting line, the driver will proceed through each obstacle, in order, to the designated finish line. The class placing is based on the fewest faults/penalties. There is a 5 point penalty for each knockdown of a cone or obstacle. Riding the log is not allowed. A tie will be broken based on time. Class 30 Long Line Class Open to any horse of any age. To be ground driven in harness, or saddle with lines through the stirrups, or sursingle, through a series of obstacles. This is a timed event. There will be a 5 second penalty taken off the total time for any dislodgement of any obstacle on the course. Class 31 Open Miscellaneous Obstacles - Driving To be driven in a two or four wheeled vehicle, through a series of obstacles. This is a timed event. There will be a 5 second penalty taken off the total time for any dislodgement of any obstacle on the course. Class 32 Open Miscellaneous Obstacles - Ridden To be ridden, through a series of obstacles. This is a timed event. There will be a 5 second penalty taken off the total time for any dislodgement of any obstacle on the course. Class 33 Keyhole Race Ridden Entrant must enter a circle marked with lime or flour, turn 180 degrees, and return to the finish line. This is a timed class. Stepping on or outside of the keyhole will be cause for elimination. Class 34 Trotting Race - Ridden Each horse is trotted once around a course in the ring. This is a timed event. The rider with the best time is the winner. 3

DIRECTIONS TO THE SHOW Coming from the east heading west, take HWY 401 to # 28 in Port Hope and go north to #115. Turn right on #115 to Peterborough to #7 East. Continue east on #7 to #28 North. Follow # 28 North to Young s Point Road. Turn left on to Young s Point Road and in 1.5 km you will turn right on to the 12 th Line, heading east to Buckhorn Road. Turn right onto Buckhorn Road and the farm is the first driveway after the Esso station, #2185 Buckhorn Road. Coming from the west heading east, take HWY 401 to #115 north to Peterborough. Turn right onto #7 East. Continue east on # 7 to # 28 north. Follow # 28 North to Young s Point Road. Turn left onto Young s Point Road and in 1.5 km you will turn right onto the 12 th Line heading east to Buckhorn road. Turn right on to Buckhorn Road and the farm is the first driveway after the Esso station, # 2185 Buckhorn Road. If you come in on #7 from Lindsay you will come to Fowlers Corners. Proceed straight through the lights and the road becomes Lindsay Road 1. Proceed to Chemong Road. Turn left at the lights and follow Chemong Road up through the town of Bridgenorth. As you come into Bridgenorth, the name becomes Ward Street. Follow Ward Street though town. As you come out of town, you will be making a left turn onto Selwyn Road. Take this road to the Buckhorn Road. Turn left at the stop sign. Follow Buckhorn road past the Esso station up the hill to the farm at 2185 Buckhorn Road. If you come in on #7 from Norwood, go north on #28 to Young s Point Road. Turn left onto Young s Point Road and in 1.5 km you will turn right onto the 12 th Line, heading east to Buckhorn Road.
