Introduction This document will outline the official selection policy of the Men s Artistic Gymnastics of the South African Gymnastics Federation for the 1st FIG Artistic Gymnastics Junior World Championships Győr (HUN) 27-30. June 2019 This is the criteria for Eligible gymnasts and coaches and meeting the requirements in this document, does not guarantee a final selection from SAGF. A final list of names of gymnasts and coaches who met the requirements as laid out in document, will be sent to SAGF board for final approval. Overview The FIG (Federation of International Gymnastics) is introducing the 1 st junior world championships for artistic gymnastics. As such, there is no reference to scores for this event and at most, some reference can be drawn from the Youth Olympic Games in Argentina 2018. Some key points for this event are: Participation: Approximately 72 federations Participation Rights: Ages- MAG Junior Gymnasts (2002-2003, Ages: 16-17) Team / Individual Competition Team Composition/Format: 3-3-2 Federations which qualified a position for the 2018 Youth Olympic Games through their respective continental championships (regardless if their YOG qualifying place was accepted or rejected) or any Federation with a gymnast who appeared in the 2018 Youth Olympic Games Entry List By NOC are permitted to send a team of 2 to 3 gymnasts to these Junior World championships, except for the Universality Places. Delegations with teams are entitled to include one reserve gymnast. If these Federations decide not to send a team at all or send an individual gymnast only, no other team will be designated to fill in the empty position. These Federations are qualified to send teams: MAG (35): ARG, AZE, BEL, BRA, CAN, CHN, CZE, ECU, EGY, FRA, GBR, GER, HUN, IRI, ISR, ITA, JPN, KAZ, KOR, LAT, NOR, NZL, PUR, ROU, RSA, RUS, SRB, SWE, TPE, TUR, UKR, USA, UZB, VEN, VIE. The SAGF Men s Technical Committee (MTC) has every intent to use our qualified position to send a team of three gymnasts. Although the qualification score might not be the biggest determining factor due to the reference issue highlighted, it must be clear that the MTC will not accept substandard performance. Expectations The below table will indicate the reference scores that could be used for selection. The expectation is that a gymnast must: (a) (b) (c) achieve the score on an apparatus or All Around at the identified selection event during the selection period. or Contribute towards a team total. It goes without saying that gymnasts must be fit to compete at the time of our final motivation to SAGF board. Specific event selection details 1 FORMAT OF COMPETITION Team event MAX 3 per team (1 reserve allowed but will be completely self-funded). All Around event World championships 2 per NF will be considered for AA placing. Apparatus event only 2 per NF may qualify MAX number of gymnasts for the events 4 (3 and 1 reserve) 2 COLOURS 1. SAGF colors (Green Federation) for all competing team members 2. SAGF colors (Green Federation) for all appointed and personal coaches on the floor of competing team members 3 FUNDING 1. The expected costs of this event will be confirmed as soon as the directives becomes available: a. Gymnasts = R 25 000-00 b. Coaches = R 25 000-00 c. Judges = R 25 000-00 PLEASE NOTE: This will be a budgeted amount and many factors can influence costs before the final invoice. Funding will be in priority order as follows: AA gymnasts will receive the most funding and apparatus specialists will receive funding proportionate to how many apparatuses they qualify for. 2. Team coach and judge may have their travel costs subsidized. 3. Gymnasts may have their travel costs subsidized but in the event of no funding costs will be self-funded. 4. Personal coaches will be self-funded. 5. Transformation selections may receive funding 6. Priority athletes may receive funding 4 ELIGIBILITY Candidates must be: SAGF registered in good standing RSA Passport holder which is valid for 6 months after the event and has 2 blank pages for any visas which may be required to be produced at selection event U18/Junior gymnasts must be in possession of an unabridged birth certificate to be produced at the selection event Competed at 2018 National Championships or produce documentation why he could not compete at the championships. This remains at the discretion of the SAGF MAG TC Member of national squad in good standing. Within the age limits of their category of choice Gymnasts who lives and trains abroad must make their intentions to be eligible for squad selection known for MAG SAGF to arrange for a selection procedure. Gymnasts who is out of the country for training camps, competitions or other valid reasons during the squad selection process in March, could be included into the provisional squad provided the gymnast has a good profile with SAGF MAG. These gymnasts must be present at the final selection event. 5 CATEGORIES MAG Junior Gymnasts (2002-2003, Ages: 16-17) 6 PERFORMANCE TARGETS 1. Preparation event for the 2020 African Gymnastics Championships. 2. To finish top 50% in the team event 3. To finish top 50% in AA event 4. To finish top 50% in the apparatus qualifying event. 7 SELECTION As laid out above EVENT/S 8 REQUIREMENTS GYMNASTS Priority for the team: 1. The best 3 AA/apparatus scores from gymnasts in the relevant sections with a minimum score as indicated in the table above which will fall within the target performance goal of the team. 2. Additional gymnasts may be added at the discretion of the TC and SAGF Exco to satisfy the transformation goals of the federation and in terms of the SRSA MOU Priority for individuals: 3. The best 2 AA gymnasts from the relevant section with a minimum AA score as indicated in the table above which will fall within the performance target goal 4. Additional gymnasts may be added at the discretion of the TC and SAGF Exco to satisfy the transformation goals of the federation and in terms of the SRSA MOU 9 TIMELINES Assessor: The discipline TC & Technical manager of SAGF Assessment: 1. Team that is capable of finishing in the top 50% 2. Individuals capable of finishing in top 50% 3. Additional gymnasts that may be required to satisfy the transformation goals of the SAGF and in terms of the SRSA MOU 1. ILLNESS, INJURY OR REMOVAL A gymnast with a serious injury (one that would hamper the gymnast to compete at the event) at the close of the selection events cannot be considered. A gymnast can be removed from the team on the following basis: 1. Non-compliance in training 2. Violation of the codes of behavior 3. Injuries at a late stage 4. Not following instructions of Head of Delegation and or Designated Manager 11 COACH SELECTION TEAM COACHES Priority: Assessor: Assessment: Obtain the best performance from the selected gymnasts The Club at which the gymnast is registered Personal coach on application or priority transformation candidate Special requirement: - Head coach of delegation appointed by discipline from eligible coaches with correct qualification (SAGF level 3 minimum, with previous international competition experience and who attended the SA INTERNATIONAL judges course.) - Each team coach shall be the coach with the most gymnasts in the team. - In the case of a tie, then the highest rank gymnast will be the deciding factor. - Additional coaches may be selected in accordance with the SAGF transformation policy and in terms of the SRSA MOU - Personal coaches will only receive SAGF colors if travelling with the team and actively participating as a coach in the event 12 JUDGE SELECTION MTC will be the selectors for the event selection will consider the transformation goals of the federation and the SRSA MOU Brevet judges on rotation for international events 13 TEAM MANAGER SELECTION 14 TRANSFORMATION TARGET (As per SAGF Equity Goals) 15 TEAM APPROVAL Manager appointed following team approval The technical committee will enforce the equity rules and goals of the Federation that are in force at the time of selection. The selected gymnasts and officials will be forwarded to the Exco of SAGF, via the Technical Manager, for approval. The Technical Manager facilitates and motivates the selection.
