October also brings Thanksgiving! Some fan favorite foods are: Ham, pumpkin pie, potatoes, and turkey Newsies decided that Thanksgiving represents being thankful for your life and everything in it. The first Thanksgiving in North America was in 1578, when English explorer Sir Martin Frobisher and his crew gave thanks for their safe return to Newfoundland from a dangerous mission of the Northwest. Some ways that other cultures celebrate thanksgiving are... Greeks: hold a 3 day festival to celebrate the goddess of corn and grains Romans: honour the Goddess of corn Chinese: hold a festival to celebrate the harvest moon. Jewish: build a hut and eat their dinner under the stars for 8 days Egyptians: honour the God of vegetation and fertility SO GIVE THANKS! For being healthy. For friends. For family. For a safe place to live. For food in your bellies. For whatever you want! Just be grateful for this generous life you ve been given. Women s group were taken on a tour of CTV studios. They were able to take a look behind the scenes, meet the newscasters, and used the green screen. They also got the chance to watch a live news taping which included a guest speaker who spoke about back to school and the illness that are commonly spread between children. The ladies had a fantastic day together.
Fall has arrived, and we wanted to share some of our favorite things. (Explore Your City created an autumn photo using pieces of nature they found while doing a scavenger hunt). Which we love! We also love: the colors, holidays, walking on crunchy leaves, falling leaves, taking walks, being cozy, playing outside, crackling fires, the smells, and the autumn sky. Barry, however, loves when fall is over. One of our own, Brian E, as part of Indefinite Arts Centre s partnership with the City of Calgary Public Art Program, where dozens of utility boxes through out the city have been painted. Brian s painted box is located at the South East Corner of 94 th Ave and Bonaventure Drive SE.
