Wharton County 4-H April April 2018 2018 Howdy! Many of you already know who I am but for those of you who don t, I thought it might be a good idea to introduce myself. I was an active member of the Wharton County 4-H program where I participated in Food Show, Horse and Beef Quiz Bowl, Livestock Judging, attended D11 Crossroads and D11 Leadership Lab, as well as exhibiting steers and heifers at major shows. I also loved the WCYF, where I exhibited steers, heifers, broilers and pigs, and served as the JFB president my senior year. I was a graduate of Wharton High School and then went on to graduate from Texas A&M! Whoop! I have spent the past 5 1/2 years serving as the Matagorda County 4-H agent where I have seen great success and have many fond memories that I will forever cherish. I am very proud of the 4-H program that I was able to build in Matagorda County and look forward to doing the same here in my home county. A few of my successes in Matagorda are a State Champion Beef Quiz Bowl Team where we earned a trip to the National contest in Denver during the National Western, assisted youth to receive over $250,000 in scholarships, strong and active enrollment, successful smartphone photography workshop, amazing ambassador program and a program with more support than I could ever imagine. As a product of the Wharton County 4-H program I truly have a passion for having a program that is even better than the programs that I have come from. I have had the opportunity to have some great conversations already with some great individuals and I look forward to a bright future for the Wharton County 4-H program. Laura Reyna Fun Fact: I really like cow pictures which will be evident in my office whenever I get it situated :) Facebook.com/Whartoncounty4h wharton4h agrilife.org/wharton4h 1

4-H News and Updates 4-H members interested in Congress Due to a limited number of spots for each district we can only select one individual and one alternate. Therefore we will be having a selection process, in which all individuals interested in attending Texas 4-H Congress must submit a short essay over why they believe that Congress would be a good opportunity for them. Essays should be no longer than 1 page and must be submitted to Ms. Laura by April 6th. Essays can be submitted electronically, in person or mailed but they must be received by April 6th. Congress is a great opportunity for 4-H youth, in my opinion it is the best event that we offer. I have had the opportunity to attend as a 4-H member and as the District Chaperone twice! I genuinely enjoyed the process each time. Congratulations to Ryan Williamson on being selected for Congress Press Corps!
