2011-12 Green Bay Women s Basketball Preseason Prospectus - Pg. 2 NCAA Records... With its program-best 34-2 record in 2010-11 and overall winning percentage of.721, Green Bay enters this season as the eighth winningest team (based on percentage) in Division I. The Phoenix also completed its 34th-consecutive winning season which ranks third all-time behind Louisana Tech and Tennessee who both have 38. Almost There... Senior Julie Wojta stands just six points shy of 1,000 for her career. Averaging 476 points throughout the past two seasons, Wojta is on track to become one of the program s top ten scorers. The Second Team All-League selection ranked 76th in the country in field-goal percentage (47.7) during her junior campaign. Solid Schedule... For the second consecutive season, Green Bay will face at least three opponents in non-conference play who appeared in the 2011 NCAA Tournament (Marquette, Georgia Tech and Northern Iowa). Last season in regular season nonconference play, the Phoenix went 3-1 against opponents in the 2010 NCAA postseason with its lone loss coming on the road at Marquette. Tournament Time... Green Bay s lone regular-season tournament will be the San Juan Tournament over the Thanksgiving holiday. The Phoenix will face Illinois from the Big Ten Conference and Georgia Tech from the ACC. In last season s holiday tournament in Cancun, Mexico, the Phoenix battled Hartford, Penn State and Utah and won all three games by an average of 19.6 points. Unfamiliar Opponent... For the first time in his career at Green Bay, fifth-year head coach Matt Bollant and his squad will battle Toledo (twice), Georgia Tech and Illinois. Under Bollant, the Phoenix is 38-7 overall in non-conference play. Steady Starters... Despite losing senior captain standouts Kayla Tetschlag and Celeste Hoewisch to graduation, Green Bay will have four starters with previous starting experience in the line up when the 2011-12 season tips off. Julie Wojta has been in the starting line up consistently since her sophomore campaign while Sarah Eichler has started a combined 55 games during her freshman and sophomore seasons. Senior Hannah Quilling started 20 games each of the past two seasons as junior Adrian Ritchie started last season on the first team before suffering a knee injury after 16 games of play. Future Freshmen... Head coach Matt Bollant added three new faces to this year s roster including Taylor Thomas (Wausau, Wis.) Ellen Edison (Maple Grove, Minn.) and Ashley Luke (Oak Creek, Wis.). Each member of the class of 2011 received All-State accolades during their high school careers. Pushing up the Polls... After entering the polls for the earliest time in a season (Nov. 22), Green Bay finished it s 2010-11 campaign at No. 9 in the final ESPN/USA Today Coaches Poll, its highest ranking in program history. The 2011-12 women s college basketball preseason poll is expected to be released in early November. National Statistic Rankings... Green Bay completed its season ranked in the top 12 in nine of the 18 national statistic categories including second in won-lost percentage (94.4) and assists per game (20.0), third in turnover margin (7.97) and free-throw percentage (78.1), sixth in assist/turnover ratio (1.25) and scoring margin (20.9), ninth in scoring defense (53.1) and 12th in both three-point field goal defense (27.0) and steals per game (12.3). Record Book Breakers... Green Bay finished its 2010-11 season breaking eight program records including wins (34), winning percentage (.944), points (2666), free throws made (539), assists (721), steals (442), turnover margin (+8.0) and scoring margin (+20.9). The Phoenix was second on the charts in three-point field goals attempted (681), free throw percentage (.781), and assist/turnover ratio (1.30). Kress Krashers... In addition to selling out its first crowd at the Kress Events Center (4,018) on Feb. 26 for its annual PinkZone game, Green Bay set five Kress Center records throughout its 2010-11 campaign. During the Horizon League Championship semifinal on Mar. 11, the Phoenix poured in a venue record 95 points while sinking a record 12 three-pointers for the second time during the season. Green Bay s 27 assists against Cleveland State on Feb. 3, 91-percent free throw shooting on Dec. 28 and 50 rebounds on Dec. 1 were also Kress Events Center records. Individually, Lydia Bauer (Lake Zurich, Ill.) tied the Kress Center record sinking six three-point field goals in Green Bay s semifinal Horizon League Championship game on Mar. 11 against Wright State. Meanwhile, Julie Wojta tied the Kress Record seven steals in Green Bay s win over Southeast Missouri Dec. 10.
