Principal Robert Shaw, Ed. D Address 11595 King Road Roswell, Georgia 30075 Achieving Excellence, Honoring Traditions, Building Community Assistant Principals James Coyle, Ed. S. Celeste Moore, M. Ed. Segena Ponder Sylvester J. Zarzana,Jr. Athletic Director Clinton Lawrence, Jr., Ed. S. October 25, 2018 Greetings to the Roswell High School Community, As many of you know, Roswell teacher Sue Scheer was killed in an accident last Saturday evening. Thank you to so many members of our community that sent messages of love and support to our students and teachers. Coach Sue was not only a long-time member of the Roswell faculty but she also served students at other local schools, including Mountain Park Elementary and Vickery Mill Elementary. While Sue s funeral will be held in Michigan early next week, last night hundreds of people came to Ray Manus Stadium to share their memories of Sue. Thank you to her family for attending. Several local media outlets reported on Sue s passing. You can read the AJC article by clicking HERE. One of the many charitable causes that Sue supported was to raise money to fight Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS). Sue had again planned to hold her annual fundraiser for ALS and, in her memory, Lucky s in Roswell will continue with the planned event. The information below is from Lucky s Facebook page: With a heavy heart, we are saddened to share the loss of a member of Lucky s family, Sue Scheer. As a special needs educator in Roswell, Sue was always happy and willing to lend a helping hand. As an honor to Sue, we will continue to support her cause for ALS. We will still be holding her annual fundraiser for ALS on Tuesday Oct. 30 all day at Lucky's Burgers and Brew Roswell. Lucky s Burger and Brew and the City of Roswell will miss you. Please keep Sue and her family in your hearts and prayers. Please keep Sue s family in your thoughts and prayers. ACT Scores Congratulations to Roswell High School as the overall ACT score for the Class of 2018 increased. Remember that the ACT, more than the SAT, measures the content knowledge that

students possess. It is also a point of pride that most of the averages for the various subjects have also shown continuous improvement. You can see the District's results by clicking HERE. Thank you! Rotary Recognition Congratulations again to Emily Kennedy and Roswell Senior Litzy Lopez-Garcia who were honored last Thursday by the Roswell Rotary club! Every month, Rotary selects a school to honor a teacher and students and both Litzy and Ms. Kennedy did a great job representing us. Thanks also to Mrs. Boyd for nominating Litzy and to Mrs. Grant for coordinating the nomination process.

Staff of Excellence Congratulations to Lashonta Flemister for being selected as Roswell High School's Staff of Excellence award winner for October. A big thank you to Mrs. Flemister for all you do for our school and students.

Epinal Exchange Students A big thank you to Mrs. Bell, Mrs. Kempf and everybody who worked to make sure the exchange students from Epinal, France had a great visit and got to experience Roswell High School. The students took a tour of Atlanta, enjoyed the Homecoming pep rally, football game, and dance, experienced a barbecue at PTSA President's Lee Hills house, participated in an Hour of Code with Mr. Lee, and so much more. Many of you welcomed the French students into your classrooms and made sure they felt a part of everything we did. Thank you so much! There were some very bittersweet emotions on Friday as we had to bid our new friends au revoir. Thank you to Betsy Minor for the press release regarding the exchange trip that you can see by clicking HERE.

Congressional Youth Council Congratulations to Betty Estevez as she and her students were able to schedule a visit from Congresswomen Karen Handel (R-GA). The students asked questions and gained an insight into some important issues.

Fencing (Thanks Coach Pappas) The Fencing Team competed at Cambridge High School this past Saturday and everyone had a personal best. New fencers Sebastien Garrett, Arely Madrid, and Ally Jones made it to the direct elimination round. Britnell Azcona competed in her first tournament and scored points against highly ranked fencers. Salmah Repole came home with a bronze medal losing her silver medal to a national competitor with a score of 14-15. This is Salmah s third medal of the season. Congratulations everyone! (And thanks to Salmah for the pics)

Marching Band The Marching Swarm went to Georgia State Stadium on Saturday to compete in the Georgia State Marching Band Championship. The group had a great showing placing 15th out of all the bands! Congrats to Mr. Moon and his staff and all of the students on a job well done!

Varsity Volleyball Congratulations to the Varsity Volleyball team as they made the long trek to Region 1 7A Champion Camden County last Saturday and beat them in straight sets to advance to the second round of the GHSA 7A State Tournament! The Hornets traveled to Newnan on Tuesday evening and lost three matches to one to end their season. However, congrats to the team on a great season (Thanks to Mr. Lawrence for the pic). Cross Country On Saturday, the Roswell Cross Country team traveled to Boling Park for the Area 3 (Region 4 and 5) 7 A Championships and, for the first time in many years, both teams have qualified for the 7A State Cross Country Meet in two weeks in Carrollton! The Varsity Boys team finished sixth and the Varsity Girls team finished fifth in one of the most competitive Areas in the State.
