Always bring plenty of water to drink, you never know how long you will be there. The days of summer are hot and can dehydrate you before you know it. Bottled water is just a couple bucks a case it the supermarket. Always keep a few bottles under your car seat just in case. Always keep a bunch in the freezer to pack in a small cooler or tote to keep a few cool ones (waters) cold. AND, don t leave home with out them. You should drink at least one bottle per hour, and if you are not visiting the little yellow un-filling station once an hour, you are not drinking enough. We are looking for several volunteers to do a static and hopefully a small electric flying demonstration at Landmark Academy on August 27th from 4:30pm to 7:30pm, If you are interested in helping out, give me a call or drop me an e-mail. So far this year we have had mostly good weather for our flyins. The June event and Bi-plane rally met with good weather and great turn outs. The club picnic day started out with some promise, and cloudy skies did not give way to rain before an early lunch. Awhile after lunch, the sky finally opened with torrential rain. The less than perfect day did not dampen spirits and we had a great picnic anyway. Our upcoming Charity Fly on September 7th will be for the benefit of the Pine River Nature Center just outside our park. Come out and enjoy some flying and friends for our last outdoor event of the year. There will be something to eat on the grill, and feel free to bring a dish to pass if you want. The Whirly birds take over the field September 8th, and the field will be closed to all fixed wing aircraft, and under Whirly Bird control. Spectators are welcome, and this is an event worth being a spectator at! This past weekend was the best days so far of the summer, we spent most of Saturday and Sunday with quite a crowd of flyers enjoying the weekend. August is half over, but there is still plenty of flying left. -Sheila July 15, 2013 Page 1

St. Clair County Propbusters Meeting Minutes Old Business Sheila commented on the 4-H club and picnic/ potluck and declared it a winner. Not that many spectators but a lot of pilots and flying and the food and passing dishes made it a success. The Eastwing s event was fun for us Propbusters and, again, the weather gods smiled because it was another great day. There is a page on the Eastwings event so no details here. You have to read the whole newsletter. The River District R/C Eagles invitational was also blessed with fine weather and between the free food and free, except for an optional toy for the tots, another successful event. An they got a table full of toys too. New Business The Land Mark Academy on the corner of Griswold and Wadhams invited us to do a show and tell. Flying for electrics only but bring your favorite plane for the show part. That s on August the 24th starting at 4:30 PM and running till 7:30 PM. Our Charity Fun Fly is in the Presidents comments /perspective column so check that for time and date. Kimball Township Is having their fall festival on Sept.14, 2013 at the field on Wadhams and North River Road with activities starting around noon and we have been invited to put on a static display of all of our planes and, as at the Academy, fly our park flyer electric planes. We say Park Flyer because we don't know how much room we will have? The Propbusters welcomed new member Gordon Wilke to the club. Gordon flew many years ago and has to be brought up to the present with the new radios, ARF wise and otherwise. Gordon lives in Marysville with his favorite wife, Irene. The Weather was perfect, the winds were mild and the sky was just begging to have our airplanes, helicopters and Ornithopters punching holes in it. I m talking about the Eastwings annual gathering on August the third. 2013 Their field was freshly mowed and what breeze there was came out of the Northwest and that didn t present a problem because the field runs mostly East to West and it s wide enough so crosswind landings aren t even in the cards. The picture of Ed was actually taken at the Propbusters field shortly before the Ornithopter decided to roost in a tree. Eddie O and admirers This time there was enough breeze so that the bird sorta goes it s own way no matter what Ed tells it to do. This time it decided to seek a nice soft landing in the weeds East of the field. Light bird plus soft landing equals no damage so it will fly again if Ed wants. Jake Klienhans of the Eastwings didn t have his GBs with him when he came to the Propbusters rally and he didn t have them at the Eastwings gathering either and I asked him why? Seems that Jake has many scale models and chose to fly his Neuport World War 1 biplane and his big beautiful Stinson. The Stinson is unique with it s wing. The wing starts out narrow and thin at the fuselage and then widens and gets thicker, on the model, at around six inches and it tapers down to the narrow wing tips. Almost a gull wing but not quite. All of his planes are things to behold. I just wished he had those two Gee Bees out. Actually, the east end of the flight line was all Propbusters and Eagles except for The Stinson Jake and his planes. I had my Katana, Super Sportster and Spitfire lined up and got to fly all of them more then once. John Schleps had his Super Sportster and P-47 foamies and his big P-47 still in the back of his vehicle. John is going to get more flights on his other birds before committing his brain and thumbs and flying the big one, and I don t blame him. Gary Wilkerson had his big aerobatic plane along with one or two of his home made foamies. Ed and Sheila had the Ornithopter and those wonderful 3D planes called the Addiction that Ed likes to fly very close to the ground and not very far away. So close he sometimes does touch and goes with his rudder. I don t think on purpose but who knows? I know I get a kick when he s flying. Keith Moore had his Electric Chopper there and put on a display of flying that was worth the trip to Memphis. My body said it s nap time around 1:00 PM and I left and I got a pic from Sheila showing Keith's chopper when it went down in flames the next day. Bummer, but five will get you ten that Keith flies again. Of course the Eastwings had my standard Hot Dog, small bag of chips and a can of pop available and a raffles that I have always contributed to so put the Eastwing Rally on your calendar for next year. Tis worth the trip. July 15, 2013 Page 3

REAL R/C PILOT An old aviator sat down at Starbucks and ordered a cup of coffee. As he sat sipping his coffee, a young women sat next to him. She turned to the aviator and asked "are you a real R/C Pilot?" He replied, "Well, I've spent my whole life flying radio controlled airplanes, planning my flights, checking weather, drinking coffee and eating donuts, spinning props, cleaning my Radio Controlled planes, fixing broken planes because of "bad" landings, fueling up, charging batteries and teaching fledgling R/C hopefuls so I guess I am a real R/C Pilot? She said "I'm a lesbian. I spend my whole day thinking about women. As soon as I get up in the morning I think about women. When I shower I think about women. When I watch TV I think about women. I even think about women when I eat. It seems that everything makes me think of women." The two sat sipping in silence. A little later, a man sat down on the other side of the old aviator and asked, "Are you a real R/C Pilot?" He replied, "I always thought I was, but I just found out that I'm a lesbian". For Sale or Trade As you can see on the left, I have 10 standard size servos for sale. Nine of the servos are Hi-Tec and one Futaba and all are wired for use in JR, Spectrum, Hi-Tec and Futaba receivers. The color code is Black or Brown on one side ( Negative ), Red or Orange in the center ( Positive) and Orange or White (signal) on the other side. All of these servos work fine but I don t fly BIG airplanes any longer. I don t weigh them but I think my biggest plane is a Hobby King Katana and it might go five pounds ready to fly.. The two plastic containers have a bunch of Hi-Tec servo arms. I m thinking $40 for the whole kit and Caboodle, that s only $4 apiece, but four Hi-Tec # HS-55 servos would tempt me greatly. If this tempts you I m at 329-2621 with an answering machine and/or nelsondelisle@hotmail.com and/or nelsondelisle@gmail.com Servos and servo arms July 15, 2013 Page 4
