STANFORD UNIVERSITY AWARD FOR SHERI BURLESON In 2011, Sprague High School had the honor of bestowing the award for the Most Outstanding Student in Mathematics to Andrew Ponec. It was a heartfelt award, which represented the accomplishments of a brilliant young mind. Andrew will be graduating this spring from Stanford University, and, having finished in the top 5% of his engineering class, was invited to select the one teacher who had the greatest impact on his academic life. He chose Sheri Burleson, who received the Stanford University Frederick Emmons Termon Engineering Scholastic Award at a ceremony this April. At the university hosted awards dinner in Palo Alto, Andrew described Mrs. Burleson s classroom as an oasis of learning, where they could share our passion and enthusiasm for mathematics. The award noted her exceptional influence and contributions to education. Sheri and Andrew share not only a passion for math and brilliance of mind, but also a commitment to excellence and a desire to improve the world around them. Although she is demure when it comes to recognition, her tireless efforts, engagement, and willingness to assist students are widely acknowledged and appreciated here at Sprague, and now by Stanford University. Congratulations, Sheri.

Sprague High School s Prom will take place at Zenith Vineyards on April 28 th from 8-11 PM. Tickets are $50 per couple or $30 for a single ticket and will be sold during lunch the week of the event as well as at the door. All fees/fines must be taken care of prior to purchasing Prom tickets. Our Yearbook staff will be taking photos free of charge and available on the Prom Facebook Page. In order for a guest to attend the Prom you must turn in a signed Parent Permission Slip (please pick up the form from Mrs. Sheldon in the Main Office). The form must be turned in by April 26th. No exceptions.

2016-17 Sprague Dance Team The Sprague Olyanne dance team recently completed their winter dance season by competing in the OSAA State Dance Team Championships on March 16. The team placed 10 th in the 6A division during the preliminary round and qualified for the tournament by placing second in the 6A divisions of three local competitions during February and March. The team also competed during the fall dance season in category competitions where they performed in multiple dance styles. The Olyannes earned two first place awards in novelty, a first and two second place trophies in pom, and a first and second placement in hip hop at three local competitions in November. All three routines qualified for the Dance and Drill Coaches Association fall championships last December where the team placed third in the state for both their novelty and pom routines. In addition to two successful competitive seasons, the Olyannes performed at five home football games, three home basketball games and one school assembly during the school year. In January, the team hosted 18 teams at their middle school dance competition attended by more than 300 dancers and 900 audience members. In February, 20 teams performed at their high school dance team competition with 250 participants and an audience of over 800. For additional performance experience, the Olyannes danced during the pregame and halftime shows of the Outback Bowl on New Year s Day in Tampa, Florida as part of the Just for Kix Performance Tour. Overall, it has been an exciting year for this team! If you are interested in learning more about the Sprague Dance team, join the coaching staff for an informational meeting on Monday, May 1st at 7 pm in the Sprague library. They will be discussing dance team auditions for the 2017-18 team that will be held on May 18 with rehearsals from May 15 to 17. For more details, visit the team website at https://spraguedt.wixsite.com/olydance
