TOURNAMENT RULES 1) AFA, NPDA, NFA, and IPDA regulations will govern their respective events, unless specified elsewhere within this invitation. 2) Competitor Eligibility. The rules of AFA, NPDA, and IPDA will guide competitor and judge eligibility. Competitors in IE s and NPDA must be students at a 2-year or 4-year college or university who have not participated in more than eight semesters of intercollegiate forensics competition. 3) Entry/Facility Limitations. Though we do not anticipate having to limit entries and will make every effort to accommodate all who wish to participate, JBU reserves the right to limit entries if our campus capacity is exceeded. We will use the following priority to entries (if needed): first, entries received after the entry deadline; second, entries without sufficient judges (uncovered); and finally, time the entry is received the earliest entries will take precedence. 4) JBU and OU Student Participation. Students from JBU and OU will participate in the tournaments, but will not be eligible for team sweepstakes awards for the tournament that they host. ENTRY PROCEDURE All entries should be made at www.forensicsleague.org. Preliminary entry is due by 9 pm on Monday January 9. Fees will be assessed and final entry is due on Thursday January 12 at 9 pm. INDIVIDUAL EVENTS 1) Students may not enter more than THREE events per pattern. Students assume all responsibility of making it to their rounds. 2) Special awards for events and sweeps will be given in individual events to the top Novice (1st year of college competition) and top Rookie (first year of Forensics competition) 3) Students may access electronic devices and the internet during Extemp prep. However, their speech must be their own original work and they may not consult with anyone inside or outside the prep room. DEBATE AND INDIVIDUAL EVENT CONFLICTS 1) LD Competitors may only enter Pattern B events in the Golden Eagle Invitational (Saturday). 2) Individual IPDA Competitors may enter Pattern A events for the Golden Eagle Invitational (Saturday) and Pattern B Events for the Josh Lee Invitationals (Sunday) TEAM IPDA DEBATE 1) We will offer one division of Team IPDA Debate. We will recognize top Junior and Novice speakers. 2) The IPDA constitution will guide all facets of IPDA competition at the tournament. NPDA and NFA-LD DEBATE 1) We will offer one division of Parliamentary Debate and NFA LD. We will recognize top Junior and Novice speakers. 2) Disclosure - Judges may not disclose their decision until the ballot has been turned in at the ballot table. Delays attributed to coach/judges may result in penalties to that school s teams including automatic losses or removal from the tournament. 3) Preliminary Rounds Rounds One and Two will be randomly matched. After round 3, rounds will be power-matched high-low within brackets based upon the results of all previous rounds (or lag powered if necessary). 4) Elimination Rounds - Advancement to and seeding in elimination rounds will be first based upon record, followed by adjusted speaker points, then total speaker points, next by opposition record, and finally by Z-Score. IPDA DEBATE 1) We will offer novice, junior, varsity, and professional divisions of IPDA debate. 2) The IPDA constitution will guide all facets of IPDA competition at the tournament. It is available at http://www.ipdadebate.info/constitution--bylaws.html 3) NOTE ON PROFESSIONAL DIVISION!!! We reserve the right to cancel professional division if there are not enough competitors to have a six round tournament when preliminary entries are due on Monday at 9 pm. SWEEPSTAKES Sweepstakes will be offered in the following categories: 1) Top 5 IE Programs at the Swing 2) Top 5 Debate Programs at the Swing 3) Top Overall University at the Swing 4) Top Overall Community College at the Swing 5) Top 5 IE competitors (each tournament) 6) Top 5 Debate Plus IE competitor at the Swing 7) Top 5 Debate Competitors at the Swing We will use the following formula for sweeps: IE Prelim Ballots: 1st Place-3 pts, 2nd Place-2 pts, 3rd Place-1 pts. IE Final Round Placement: 1st Place-9 pts, 2nd Place-6 pts, 3rd Place-5 pts, 4th Place-4 pts, 5th Place and below-3 pts. IE Placement (if no final round): 1st-6 pts, 2nd-4 pts, 3rd-2 pts. IPDA/LD Debate: 5 pts per prelim win. 10 points per elim win. Team IPDA/Parli: 10 pts per prelim win. 15 points per elim win. (Top 4 competitors in each event and/or division count for team points.)
