The mild weather has had a positive effect on our utility bill and golf traffic, but certainly has negatively affected our pool business. As we continue through August we will be adjusting the guard schedule. Please feel free to call ahead to see how many or if any guards may be on duty. Monday, August 3rd we will host the 14th annual Hospice Golf Outing. Consequently the course will be closed until after 6 p.m. Also we will not serve lunch that day in the Lodge dining room. We will have pool side service available that day. Finally Exalted Ruler Brian Valde is looking for volunteers to serve on a committee to chart our long term goals and improvements. He envisions a diverse group to prioritize improvements for the Lodge, golf course and pool. Included in the planning will be the need to address the source of funding for the projects. If you are interested in being involved contact Brian Valde at 319-310-3026. No lodge meeting Monday, August 3rd, 2009 No lunch in Lodge dining room pool service available 11:30 to 2:00. Message from the Pro A bittersweet month at the Elks, with no flooding it was better than what we dealt with last year, but the cold rainy weather was a major setback. The golf course lost a longtime employee to the real world when Jackie Alvis accepted a position at the Arnold Palmer Children's Hospital in Orlando. She was a great member of the staff for almost 5 years and will be missed. Make sure to bug her if you head to Orlando! It is great to see the staff graduate and move on to bigger and better things, but it is not easy to let them go. Good luck Jackie! I will miss ya! Brian Wernimont, PGA Professional
