AUDLEY PRIMARY SCHOOL Newsletter 14 th October/Autumn 1 Wk 6 Dear Parents, www.audleyprimary.uk @audleyprimary Congratulations Mrs Deacon Congratulations to Mr and Mrs Deacon on the safe arrival of their baby son into the world on Tuesday 11 th October. Both mum and baby are well and we look forward to meeting them in the near future. IQM Awards Ceremony Mrs Deragon and I attended the IQM Awards in London on Tuesday. During the spring and summer term the school worked extremely hard towards this re-accreditation. The school submitted its IQM selfevaluation form and an IQM Assessor came in to assess the school in June. It was a privilege and delight to receive this award; it recognises all the hard work that we do. As the assessor and speaker at the ceremony reported, Audley Primary School is a place where: Pupils behaviour is excellent. They are polite, confident and courteous and are very positive about their school. Comments included, Teachers are very fair and make learning as fun as possible, Teachers are kind, helpful and generous, We really like the golden assembly, We like good learning in English, We like all the rewards and recognition we get, like the golden awards, prefect awards and 100% attendance awards, The teachers are really nice, We like the clubs and We like all the changes Mr Grogan has made. Facebook Communication We are aware that some parents have been using Facebook to discuss what happens at school. Social networking sites such as Facebook are not an appropriate place to discuss concerns and we request that parents raise any questions with their child s class teacher in the first instance. Comments made on social networking sites can easily be viewed as being derogatory and could be interpreted as bringing the school or the reputation of an individual into disrepute.

Harvest Festival On Tuesday 18 th October we would like to warmly welcome you to our Harvest Festival which takes place at 2:15pm. A harvest display will be created at the front of the Hall. Please send in non-perishables, e.g. tins and cans of food or toiletries for our display. This year we have chosen to donate our harvest gifts to Caterham Food Bank. Doing so will mean that we are supporting those living in our local community who are most in need. E-safety Evening It was wonderful to see many parents at the E-Safety evening at de Stafford School yesterday. I am extremely grateful to Mr Garner for inviting parents along to this event. It was powerful to hear Lorin LaFave share how her 14 year old son, Breck Bednar, was groomed online and murdered in 2014. I know that many of you may know about this tragic death as Breck s family lived in Caterham. The Breck Foundation was set up by Lorin to help young people to enjoy the internet and play games online, whilst remaining safe. As Headteacher I was grateful for the opportunity to hear about the work of The Breck Foundation and would like to direct parents to the following website: https://ceop.police.uk/safetycentre/. Here you will find a wealth of advice, help and support. Please remember that if you have any concerns regarding your child s online safety then please speak to one of our Designated Safeguarding Leads. Sporting Events Parent Behaviour and Conduct I received an email reporting complaints about the attitude and driving of parents from our school after the Cross Country Rally on Tuesday afternoon. Please remember to be respectful to residents and other parents at sport events. Comments and negative attitudes reflect badly on the school. If this continues, then the Sports Association may decide to exclude the school from future sporting events. This would be a great shame. Another school also received a similar email regarding the conduct and behaviour of its parents on Tuesday afternoon. Sports News Football - Audley vs Hillcroft 2:0 Match report written by Rhys Thomas and Adam Kennedy Audley Primary School played in a football game on Wednesday 12 th October against Hillcroft Primary School. Audley played steadily for the first half and following a hard-hitting team talk at half time, worked hard to step up their game and take control. During the second half Hillcroft had many scoring opportunities, but these were skilfully deflected by our star goalkeeper, Will. A foul on Adam led to Kai taking a free kick. Unlucky! Kai shot the ball too wide. Then Jack s hammered shot was blocked by one of Hillcroft s defenders. In the final few minutes Adam managed to defeat the keeper, knocking the ball into the back of the net! 1-0! At last! And in the last fifteen seconds Thomas crossed the ball towards the goal and Adam, for a second time, finished the match off, by scoring another goal. The final whistle blew. It was a 2-0 victory for the Owls. Thank you to Mr Butler and Mr Simpson for making this win possible.

Reminder for Year 6 Parents Please note that the deadline for application for secondary schools is Monday 31 st October. By this date your applications must be submitted online or by a paper form. Surrey County Council advises submitting your application by Friday 21 st October, which is the Friday before the half term holiday. If you submit your application online, you will be informed of the outcome by email on the evening of Wednesday 1 st March 2017. If you submit your application on a paper form, then you will be sent a letter by first class post on Wednesday 1 st March 2017.
