BUCS WHEN... A SO-CAL KID: Tonight s Bucco starter, Trevor Williams, grew up in the San Diego area and is a 2010 graduate of Rancho Bernardo High School...After making six relief appearances, Williams made his first start of the season against the Dodgers in Los Angeles on 5/8 and gave up six runs in the first inning en route to surrendering eight runs (six earned) in 3.0ip...In 18 starts since then, he has gone 4-4 with a 4.23 ERA (100.0ip/47er)...Williams also ranks fifth among N.L. rookies in IP (114.2). SCORING RUNS: The Pirates have scored five or more runs in seven straight games for the first time since doing so during the 1996 season between September 15-22, 1996...The last time Pittsburgh scored five or more runs in eight consecutive games was during a 10-game stretch between June 20-28, 1983...Prior to losing last Wednesday s game in Milwaukee, 7-6, the Pirates had won 18 straight games when scoring four or more runs; they have gone 2-5 since when scoring four or more. THE HIT COLLECTOR: Last night s single by Andrew McCutchen gave him 1431 career hits, tying him with Bill Virdon for 15th place on Pittsburgh s all-time hit list...dick Groat is 14th on the list with 1435 hits and Dave Parker is 13th with 1479... Since making his Major League debut in 2009, McCutchen leads all National League players in hits. JHAY THE MAN: Bucco All-Star Josh Harrison has homered three times in his last six games and has produced a career-high 15 this season...he fell a triple shy of hitting for the cycle Monday night and had a two-run double Tuesday...Harrison is batting.326 (15-for-46) with nine RBI in his last 11 games. NO LOVE FOR LEFTIES: Felipe Rivero has not allowed a hit to a left-handed hitter in 38 straight at bats...according to the Elias Sports Bureau, that is the longest such streak in the Major Leagues since Tampa Bay s Brad Boxberger, a right-handed pitcher, held lefty batters hitless over 43 straight at bats in 2014. RING THAT BELL: Josh Bell is the fifth rookie in team history to hit at least 20 home runs, joining Garrett Jones (21 in 2009), Jason Bay (26 in 2004), Ralph Kiner (23 in 1946) and Johnny Rizzo (23 in 1938). SELECT COMPANY: Andrew McCutchen has 198 career home runs, which ranks fourth in Pirates history behind Hall-of- Famers Willie Stargell (475), Ralph Kiner (301) and Roberto Clemente (240)...In addition, McCutchen s 527 career extrabase hits rank seventh in club history behind six Hall-of-Famers; Stargell (953), Honus Wagner (865), Paul Waner (852), Clemente (846), Pie Traynor (593) and Max Carey (590). CLOSING TIME: Felipe Rivero notched his 14th save of the season Sunday night with a scoreless ninth inning against the Cardinals...Rivero enters today with the third-lowest ERA (1.31) among all relievers in MLB behind Kenley Jansen (1.28) and Archie Bradley (1.29)...Rivero has gone 14-for-15 in save opportunites with the Bucs this season.
