UPPER BEACONSFIELD PONY CLUB NEWSLETTER DC REPOR T March 2014 Well our February rally was well received. I think everybody had a good time, but it did feel a bit strange getting home from Pony Club 8.30 at night. The other good thing was that we were free to visit the Upper Beaconsfield Village Fair on Sunday, something that often doesn t happen because of the clash of dates. Since our February rally we have had 2 of our show jumping days and now only one more to go on the 29 th March. It s been a big effort for all involved and we must seriously thank Sharon & Kitty for all their efforts with the entries, organising the running sheets and the money side of things. It felt a bit like organised chaos at times, with the ongoing changes to entries that some have been throwing our way. But the end result has been that the vast majority of competitors seem to have been impressed with the organisation, the friendly way we have run the event and the late entries have helped our bottom line. Please don t forget the 29 th of March the duty roster has been distributed via email (we a haven t had any working bees this year) and for those who aren t on it this week but are free please pitch in where you can or come at the end of the day to assist with the packing up when others are flagging. On other topics please remember that if you want to go out and compete it s your responsibility to ensure that your card is up to date and that you have the appropriate grading for the particular event you are going in. Let me know asap if you want a grading, or want it to be reviewed. We are making it a priority at this rally so that combinations who can be safely graded for a particular discipline have one on their card. Note though that safety and being in control of your horse at all times is critical and for such things as horse trials (where cross country is involved) it maybe that combinations are often left un graded or graded at a level below their combined training grading due to this fact. See you at the March Rally..Sven A huge thanks to everyone involved the first two weeks of the SJ Series, given it was the current committee s first event, a fantastic job was done in making the events appear professional and efficient. There were loads of great comments and thank you s for a very enjoyable time and hopefully we made some money into the bargain! Sharon Next Committee Meeting April 2nd 2014 8pm Committee meetings are held on the first Wednesday of the month starting at 8pm at the pony club rooms. RALLY Hot Weather Policy: There is no hard and fast rule regarding rallies and competitions held during hot weather, it is at the discretion of the presiding committee to hold, cancel or postpone an event. The current committee at UBPC have agreed that due to the hazardous environment and difficulty in evacuating our club grounds in the event of a fire, we need to be on the side of caution when deciding to hold/cancel rallies due to heat. We understand that this can cause inconvenience however, safety is of the utmost importance to our horses and riders. If you wish to view the policy currently endorsed by Equestrian Australia go to www.equestrian.org.au. Change of Rules: Please note that often there are changes to the rules so before competing please go to http:// www.ponyclubvic.org.au/site/ponyclub/vic/downloads/publications/rules%20and%20regulations/gear% 20Rules/GEAR%20RULES%202014%20Table%20of%20Rule%20amendments.pdf and check. Some questions have arisen from parents of newer members of our club regarding rules, grading's and gear check. All information regarding this can be obtained from the PCAV website under Rules Regulations and Guides. Copies of these documents are also available in our clubrooms. It is still best to check the website in case our printouts are not 100% up to date. C Certificate Last chance to register for C Certificate testing in April. Contact Sven Jones. During the March rally we are hoping to review all members grading. Grading's are necessary for competition and are shown on your pony club card in all disciplines. Each member needs to adhere to certain criteria to gain a grading, this is usually determined by the DC and an instructor however in certain cases where grading's cannot be agreed, a zone representative can be brought in to assist. The current committee would like to tidy up these grading's prior to a new committee being elected in April. It seemed much more orderly and a lot safer than everyone merging into one group. 3
