DESCRIPTIONS Basketball Skills and Drills: Players will be learning and practicing fundamental basketball skills, primarily dribbling and passing, through participation in drills and games. Younger grades will play Hoop Ball, where smaller teams work on passing/ guarding with a soft ball and shooting into hula hoops attached to basketball nets. This is an age-appropriate method to learn the basics of basketball. (Volunteer coaches: Jenna Eardley & Raquel Bettini [Grades 1-2], Erin Mawhinney & Tamara Latour [Grades 3-4], SEEKING COACHES FOR GRADE 5+) Indoor Soccer Players will learn the fundamentals of soccer through participation in drills, and put these skills to practice in fun and energetic small-group games. (Volunteer coaches: Conor Brogan & Stewart Curran [Grades 1-2], Scott Keen & Alisha Rowntree Chambers [Grades 3-4], SEEKING COACHES FOR GRADE 5+) Note: Although presented together in the same time slot on the schedule, players can choose to register for one or the other and come on alternating weeks. Volleyball Players will learn the fundamentals of volleyball through participation in fun activities, and put these skills to practice in small-group games. (Volunteer coaches: Rebecca Thompson & Aimee Bartlett [Grades 4-7]) Note: The 3 above sports will repeat beginning Jan. 13 th, new participants welcome to merge in for term 2. Registration will open in November. Jazz Dance by Guelph Youth Dance Participants will be exposed to jazz dance technique, geared to their age. Guelph Youth Dance graduating dancers will lead the group through a fun filled class which aims to build confidence, strength, flexibility and body awareness while developing a natural joy for movement.
Participants should wear close-fitting, comfortable clothing and bare feet. (Instructors: Graduating dancers of Guelph Youth Dance [Grades 3, 4, 5]) Note: In January, Guelph Youth Dance will return to this time slot with Hip Hop, also for Grades 3, 4, 5. Broadway Minis Musical Theatre This 10 week class is great for any children with any interest in singing, dancing and acting. They will have a chance to explore more movement styles and create dances of their own. We will work together as a group to create theatre stories as well as characters. Most of the lessons and exercises are learnt through games which allows kids to have fun in a comfortable environment. (Instructor: Courtney Riddell of Centre Stage Kids [Grades JK and SK]) Hip Hop Kids can learn to 'bust a move' while learning the basics of hip hop dance. Each class will include a warm up, dancing games and an introductory to choreography in a fun atmosphere. This class will get kids listening to the beat of the music and finding their creativity through movement. (Instructor: Courtney Riddell of Centre Stage Kids [Grades JK - 2]) Broadway Beginners Musical Theatre This 10 week program is for the kids who love to be centre stage. It will have elements of theatre, dance and vocal. We will work together to create a small workshop presentation for the last class. Each week the kids will get a chance to explore, create and develop their skills in dancing, acting and singing. (Instructor: Courtney Riddell of Centre Stage Kids [Grades 1-6]) REGISTRATION INFORMATION Several instructors handle registration. When you write to each, please include; Your child s first, last name, grade in 2017/18, school and age; Parent/guardian contact information; and Your complete mailing address. Participation will be granted on a first come, first served basis (although all children of volunteer instructors jump the queue). There is a 2-week priority registration period for youth who reside within the boundaries of the St. George s Park Neighbourhood Group (the wedge of Arthur, train tracks alongside Elizabeth, Victoria and back to Eramosa, along with the Wolfond Park area from Eramosa to Homewood to Delhi). Please note if you live out-of-area it is still best to register now and simply note that you wish to be on the out-of-area waiting list. On August 15 th, the out-of-area list names will move on to the main list in the order received. Even if your child did not make the main list because the program was at capacity, note that all instructors will maintain an additional waiting list of 5 kids. If there are any late cancellations, you will be contacted.

First kid in first program pays $75. All subsequent kids and programs are $65. Classes are taught by Courtney Riddell of Centre Stage Kids and payment should be made directly via e-transfer ahead of class or at the first session via cash or cheque. Courtney trained at the Randolph Academy of Performing arts and knows what it means to be a triple threat. Since then she has performed in a variety of theatres throughout Toronto. She has taught theatre and musical theatre in Toronto and Guelph. She has had the opportunity to teach dance in Toronto, Kitchener and Guelph. She has taught in a variety of schools, the YMCA and a number of theatre companies. We need 2 coaches for each group. Each coach will volunteer 6 times over this 12 week series. (Exact dates in the schedule, above.) Payment in good feels, rosy cheeks and smiles!!! We are still seeking ASSISTANT coaches! As the third adult, you will support the main coaches to run drills and keep score during matches. If you can help, please indicate on your child's registration e-mail. This is also a good way for youth to earn their required volunteer hours. Our after school program offerings in our Youth Sports & Activity League include Money Math Mondays, karate (Gr. 1-3 & 4-8) musical theatre and arts & crafts club. These are held in the library each weekday from 3:00 4:00 p.m.. Our incredibly popular Summer Soccer Series will commence May 2018 for children from age 3 to Grade 8. For 13 weeks in 2017 there were 111 kids registered and play went from 6:00 8:00 p.m. with a shared snack break for both hours at 6:55. When everyone was in town to play, it was quite a spectacle!
