Yesterday s victory was the Cubs 26th come from behind win of the season, third-most in the N.L. and seventh-most in baseball Arizona leads the majors with 30 such wins. Lester yesterday allowed two runs on three hits while walking none and striking out 10 in 8.0 innings he is now the only Cubs lefty since 1913 to record three starts of no walks with at least 10 strikeouts. Moreover, yesterday s outing was Lester s 10th career 10-strikeout game with the Cubs, tied for the most of any Chicago southpaw since 1913 with Ken Holtzman thanks to CSN Chicago s Chris Kamka. CURRENT EVENTS: The Cubs have emerged from the All-Star Break with a 7-1 record (.875), the top mark in the majors Pittsburgh is second at 7-2 (.778). This is the third of a five-game homestand against the Cardinals (1-1) and White Sox (two games, July 24-25) this is the third day of a stretch in which the Cubs play 18 of 29 games at Wrigley Field through August 20. The Cubs have 35 games remaining at home and 31 games left on the road Chicago has more home games remaining than any other team in the N.L. Central. Of the 66 games remaining for the Cubs this season, 38 are against teams currently owning a record that is below.500, or 58 percent of them. Q QUOTIENT: José Quintana today makes his first Wrigley Field start since the Cubs acquired him from the White Sox on July 13 in his first outing as a Cub, July 17 at Baltimore, he tossed 7.0 scoreless innings while allowing only three hits, walking none and striking out 12 in Chicago s 8-0 win. José tied the franchise record for most strikeouts in a Cubs debut, previously done by Matt Garza on April 3, 2011 vs. Pittsburgh José is the first Cubs pitcher to do so on the road Garza struck out 12 and allowed 12 hits. Additionally, José became the first pitcher in franchise history to strike out 10 or more batters, allow three hits or less and issue no walks in his Cubs debut. José struck out 10 batters in his last start with the White Sox starting in 1893, he is only the second pitcher in baseball history to record consecutive double digit strikeout efforts for two different teams, joining Randy Johnson who did so for Seattle and then Houston in 1998 thanks to Elias and Ed Hartig for their research assistance on these nuggets from José s gem.
