The Crusaders lead the all-time series 33-2 and have won each of the past five meetings, including the first game this season, 75-62. Colgate s last victory came on Jan. 13, 2004, a 90-80 triumph on Cotterell Court. The Raiders first win was an 83-67 triumph on Jan. 18, 1994. LAST TIME WE MET Holy Cross used a 13-2 run in the final four minutes of the game to slide past Colgate 75-62 at the Hart Center. Freshman Gretchen Polinski led all Raider scorers with a career-high 18 points and eight rebounds. Holy Cross jumped out to a 13-8 lead, but Polinski hit three consecutive three-pointers to spark an 11-0 run that put Colgate ahead 19-13. The Crusaders went back ahead 23-21 and the seesaw battle continued as the lead changed five times in the final six minutes. Trailing by two at the 1:45 mark, 33-31, the Raiders closed the half with a 7-2 run to take a 38-33 lead into the locker room. Colgate opened the second half with the first basket to take a seven-point lead, 40-33, but the Crusaders stormed back to tie the game at 42. The Raiders jumped back in front for the final time, 53-50, on a three-pointer by Polinski, but could not hold the lead as Holy Cross went on a 10-2 run to go ahead for good 60-55. Holy Cross s Kaitlin Foley led all scorers on the evening with 21 points and a team-high eight boards. Lafayette on Jan. 10 with 12 points and 11 rebounds. Junior CARLY BRESCACIN turned in her first double-figure performance with 12 points at Harvard and had a double-figure rebound performance with 10 at Holy Cross. Freshman GRETCHEN POLINSKI put together her first career double-double with 14 points and 10 rebounds against Dartmouth on Jan. 17. The Raiders grabbed their first win after trailing at halftime at American on Feb. 12. EXTRA TIME Colgate s overtime victory over Lehigh on Feb. 1 was the Raiders first extra session victory since Nov. 24, 2002 when Colgate beat Wagner 83-75 in double overtime. LENDING A HAND Ballard is not only a defensive stopper for the Raiders, but she gets the offense going as well, leading the team and ranking fourth in the league in assists with 3.24 per game. She also has taken care of the basketball as of late, pushing her assist to turnover ratio 1.14, fourth best in the conference. She recorded a career-high nine assists against American earlier this season. THE EARLY BIRD GETS THE WORM Colgate has taken a lead into the locker room nine times this season and has come away with a victory in six of those. The Raiders are 1-14 in games they trailed at the half. CAITLIN GILLARD AWAY FROM HOME The young Raider squad has struggled on the road this season, sporting a 2-11 record away from Cotterell Court. Colgate is 4-6 on its home court and 1-1 on neutral courts. The Raiders most recent away win came at American on Feb. 12, a 72-63 victory. NOT SO CHARITABLE Colgate has not been able to get to the charity stripe much this season, shooting just 420 free throws compared to its opponents 527. The Raiders went to the line a season-low four times at Vanderbilt and only got five free shots against Dartmouth. The Big Green stepped up to the foul line 27 times in that game, making 20, while the Raiders knocked down just three. Colgate lost by just 11 points in that game. In three of Colgate s seven victories this season, the Raiders have gone to the foul line more than their opponent. Colgate shot a season-high 38 free throws in the win over Lafayette on Feb. 7. THIEVES The Raiders defense has been difficult for opponents to handle this season. Colgate is tied for first in the league in steals with 10.72 per game. Colgate s season-high 17 steals against McNeese State and Lehigh (Feb. 1) are the most by any Patriot League team this season, while Ballard s seven at Princeton and against Lehigh (Feb. 1) are the most in a game by an individual player in the league. Colgate has forced every opponent into at least 12 turnovers and has forced at least 20 in 12 games. The Raiders are first in the league in turnover margin (+1.20). Colgate has at least 10 steals in 14 games this season. MELANIE CARGLE Leading Scorer, 12.8 ppg STREAKBUSTERS Lafayette and Bucknell both stopped Colgate streaks this season. Senior guard MEGHAN CURTIN had her streak of 14 consecutive games with at least one three-pointer broken at Lafayette, where she was held scoreless. Fellow classmate MEGAN BALLARD had her streak of 17 games with at least one steal stopped against Bucknell when the Bison held Ballard s defensive prowess in check. FEBRUARY NOTES Seniors MEGAN BALLARD, MEGHAN CURTIN, and DEVON WARWICK like playing in February, sporting a career record of 15-13. The Raiders went 3-4 in 2003, 6-2 in 2004, and 3-4 in 2005 and are currently 3-3 this season. AROUND THE LEAGUE Colgate features five players ranked among the top-10 in 10 different categories tracked by the league as of Feb. 20. Senior MEGAN BALLARD leads the league in steals (3.80 spg), is fourth in assist to turnover ratio (1.14), sixth in assists (3.24 apg), and ninth in scoring (11.9 ppg). Freshman GRETCHEN POLINSKI is fourth in offensive rebounds (2.52/gm) and three-point field goal percentage (.386), fifth in three-point field goals made, sixth in rebounding (6.8 rpg), seventh in defensive rebounds (4.28/gm), and eighth in blocked shots (0.56). Senior MEGHAN CURTIN is fifth in three-pointers made (48). Sophomore guard MELANIE CARGLE is seventh in scoring (12.8 ppg) and GRETCHEN POLINSKI Leading Rebounder, 6.8 rpg

ninth in steals (1.610 spg). Sophomore CAITLIN GILLARD is 10th in blocks with 11 (0.50 bpg) FORMIDABLE FOES The Raiders have played arguably one of the toughest schedules in the Patriot League this season. Colgate has faced two ranked opponents in then No. 20/16 Vanderbilt of the SEC and then No. 24 Boston College of the ACC. The Raiders also went up against Big East opponent Syracuse University and defending Ivy League co-champions Dartmouth and Harvard. COMING UP NEXT The Raiders close out their regular-season schedule on Feb. 25 at Navy. Tipoff is set for noon in Annapolis. ALL IN THE FAMILY Megan Ballard may be a long way from her hometown of Atlanta, but she has family right next door at Colgate. Ballard s brother, Jeremy, is an assistant coach for Colgate s men s basketball team. A 2003 graduate of Colgate, Ballard earned four varsity letters with the Raiders, and served as a co-captain in his senior season. He played in 63 games during his career including 18 starting assignments during the 2002-03 season. He was a two-time winner of the prestigious ECAC Merit Medal Award, and was named to the Patriot League Academic Honor Roll in 2002 and 2003. BICENTENNIAL Ballard reached the 200-assist milestone against Niagara with seven helpers. She is just the fifth player in Colgate history to amass both 200 steals and 200 assists in her career. She currently has 256 assists and 270 steals. She needs two more helpers to break into Colgate s top-10 list. ALL TOURNAMENT Freshman guard GRETCHEN POLINSKI averaged 10.5 points and 6.5 rebounds, 3.5 steals, and 1.5 assists per game at the Vanderbilt Thanksgiving Tournament to earn all-tournament team honors. The native of Mansfield, Ohio lit up McNeese State in the opening game for a career-high 17 points, three assists, and six steals and added four points and a team-high seven rebounds the following day against the No. 20/22 Commodores in the championship game.
