ASSISTANT GENERAL MANAGER S REPORT Greetings, Soon the course will be transformed into a winter wonderland. I hope everyone is able to fit some time into your schedules to enjoy the great outdoors and the friendship of your fellow members. Annual Food Minimums need to met by October 27th. If you have any questions concerning your minimum please send the office an email or give us call (office@eaglesmerecc.com or 570-525-3475 x3). Trial Membership is a great way for a prospect to try out the club. The dues are $100 and the membership runs from October 1st to May 31st. They can use the golf course twice and have access to our dining room. If you know of any prospect that would like to take advantage of this opportunity I will be happy to reach out to them. Another way to introduce them to the club is to invite them to our dinner of Friday, October 5th which will be feature turkey dinner as our Comfort Feature. The Membership Committee has mailed many invites to new residents to Sullivan County but this is also an opportunity for our members to bring friends that may be interested in membership. If you wish to join us please send your reservation to Deb at reservations@eaglesmerecc.com. I am excited about the Fall Menu that rolled out in September. There is a large variety of items to choose from with something for everyone s palate. Please consider Eagles Mere Country Club for all of your Holiday entertaining and Deb will be happy to assist in planning your event. We are very happy to have a great addition to our kitchen staff. Tina Williams is a very talented baker and comes to EMCC with great experience. She has created a menu to help you with your baking needs. Her cakes, pies and desserts are just fabulous. Enjoy your October, Marge In Memoriam: Norman Watts Membership Committee Notes Dear Fellow Members: Now that Autumn has officially arrived (hopefully nicer weather soon follows!), it is time to think about cooler days and nights, pumpkins, mums, beautiful Fall foliage, college football/tailgating parties, apple cider and, of course, the upcoming Holidays. It is certainly a beautiful time to be in the mountains and especially so in our beloved Eagles Mere! Your Club stands ready to serve you and your guests during Autumn weekends, whether for drinks with friends in front of the outside fire pit or inside stone fireplace or later enjoying one of Mel s sumptuous meals in our warm and inviting dining room. If you intend to be on the mountain for the upcoming Columbus Day Weekend, Chef Mel will be preparing and serving her famous turkey dinner on Friday, October 5, complete with all of the customary trimmings. We all know and appreciate how popular this meal has become at EMCC! To highlight that evening, as well as to promote all of the benefits of membership at our Club, your Membership Committee has made contact with targeted recent purchasers of real estate in Sullivan County and invited them to join us that evening to witness, first hand, all of the benefits that membership at our Club entails. Our Committee s view is that October 5th would also be an excellent opportunity for those of our members who have family members, friends, neighbors and business associates who have expressed an interest in becoming members of EMCC to come and see our Club in its Autumn splendor and to enjoy a mouth-watering homecooked dinner. We remind you that there will also be other entrees in addition to the turkey dinner for your and your guests dining pleasure. Ideally, we would like to see the entire dining room filled to capacity on Friday, October 5th to usher in the change of seasons and to introduce our wonderful Club to potential new members. Your support of this event will be greatly appreciated. Thank you. Steve Wilds, on behalf of the Membership Committee

CLUBHOUSE MANAGER NOTES October is a great time of the year to be on the mountain with all the beautiful colors and great views as the leaves are starting to change and the temperature drops. Thank you to all the members that continue to support us year after year and to all the new members we hope you ve enjoyed your first summer here even though the weather has not been the best! Also, thank you to the entire staff for your dedication and hard work you give throughout the season. I hope everyone has enjoyed this year s menu items and events. We look forward to serving the membership again next year with new menu items and exciting different events to come. Columbus weekend we will be featuring a Thanksgiving Turkey comfort plated dinner on Friday, October 5th and on Saturday, October 6th we will feature a Dinner buffet as well as weekend drink features. Please refer to our calendar for October s clubhouse hours. We continue to remind members to make realistic dining reservations for the time you wish to be seated. To ensure quality service please allow sufficient time to mingle with friends before dinner. Your delay in being seated creates a problem for the diners following you. On Fridays tasteful denim is allowed; please remember that after Labor Day we don t require jackets in the dining room on Saturday evenings. I will be stopping by your table as you dine so please let me know if something is not to your satisfaction. Please try to adhere to your dinner reservation times as you gather to reminisce with friends. Watch for our new Wine of the Month article in this newsletter featureing a new wine every month chosen by Damon. He will also pair out wines with the entrees on the features Menu. We are always looking for new ideas and suggestions so if there is something that you would like us to consider please let us know. We are taking reservations for holiday parties, meetings and family gatherings so be sure to call early with your date! We are featuring our new baker Tina and she will be baking pies, cakes and cookies for the holidays so watch for details. As always, I will be stopping by your table to make sure you are having a great dining experience. Have a great October! Tina spent the summer baking at a café in Denali National Park in Alaska and has various accolades from cake competitions. Tina states, I love baking because of the creativity it allows and the joy food brings to people. In addition to baking she also enjoys swimming, hiking, reading and time spent with family. GOLF NEWS Golf Shop Be sure to come in and use your remaining credit before the season ends. All of existing credit must be used by Sunday, October 21st. We will have our final big sale throughout Columbus Day Weekend. October shop hours are from 8 am 5 pm. It s Time to use your golf shop Credit Credit Must be used by October, 21st 2018 USGA Rule of the Month What is the difference between a red and yellow stakes? Correct Answer Red Stakes or Lateral Hazard: A lateral hazard is different from a water hazard because the hazard is located alongside or adjacent to the line of play, rather than running across or through. An example is a creek that flows down alongside neighboring the hole. Yellow Stakes or Water Hazard: A water hazard is different from a lateral hazard because it comes into play through the line of a hole. An example is a pond, lake or creek that is in front of a green such as the 18th hole here at EMCC. Tip from your Professional Golf Staff As we are approaching the end of the season the cool damp days are more often to appear. With this being said make sure to properly stretch and hit ONLY a few balls on the driving range before your round. This will allow your body to mold with the current temperature. Also, do not forget to get your practice in before the season comes to an end and remember practice smarter, not harder

Golf Committee Notes Thank you to all of our members for making this season a winner, despite the difficult weather conditions. The fact that we were able to complete the vast majority of our outings and tournaments, even with the inclement weather is a testament to the hard work and diligence of our Pro Shop staff and the Greens crew. Don Keefer and his team get the gold star for keeping the course in outstanding playing condition. Many clubs that I have visited this year have experienced significant issues with their turf quality because of excessive rain, and we have been able to avoid many of those problems because of excellent grounds management. The search for our new EMCC golf professional is well underway. The Search Committee (Linda Easton, Dick Kahler, Robert Rabb, Art Pursel) has been working closely with the PGA to get the position posted and identify strong candidates. We will be conducting interviews throughout the fall months, and will keep the membership aware of developments. The golf committee would like to recognize the outstanding work of the pro shop staff. These folks have done an excellent job keeping clubs clean and stored during the year, preparing carts, and organizing tournaments. Please show them your appreciation before the end of the season. The Member-Guest and Member-Member events were clearly highlights. The Junior Golf program was again a shining star, with fantastic participation in all of our junior activities. The awards ceremony on Labor Day weekend was supported well by the membership. Congratulations to all of our golfers who took home awards. Thanks to Kal and Kade Logue for keeping our momentum strong as we move into the final weeks of the 2018 season. Rounds this season were unfortunately down as compared to the past three years, which should come as no surprise. I can t recall in all my time at EMCC, through three different golf professionals tenure, this much rain in a single season. Pace of play remained generally good in 2018, and Seth s management and leadership allowed our golf organization to keep expenses on budget, even with some unplanned expenses and low cart revenue. Our cart fleet, which is always difficult to maintain due to our limited amount of improved cart paths, held up relatively well, and we will continue our regular schedule of replacement by turning over a portion of our fleet for the coming season. Note that closing day for the pro shop is October 21st. The tee improvement project will continue through the off season, so look for some positive changes next season. Note that EMCC is hosting the PIAA High School District Tournament on October 4th and 6th. The top High School golfers from our region, along with their coaches and many family members, will be at the club for this event. Please be sure to welcome these folks, and let them know about the benefits of an EMCC membership. Increasing membership is an important priority for our club. Please be sure to post all of your scores throughout the winter months, so that handicaps remain accurate. Frank Schetroma, our Handicap Chair, will continue to monitor handicap accuracy. With the on-line option, it is easier than ever to post scores electronically, thus keeping handicaps up to date and allowing golfers to enter scores from anywhere. Please take a moment to thank the members of your Golf Committee. They volunteer time, energy and insight to help EMCC offer a top notch golf program, and I am truly grateful for their efforts. The committee members for 2018 were Linda Easton, Mark Farrell, Scott Fletcher, Lewis Leibowitz, Rodd Melzer, Scott Repke, Steve Ryan, Steve Wilds, Katrina Wilkins and Handicap Chair Frank Schetroma. Thank you all for your support and for making 2018 a great golf season at EMCC. Enjoy the beautiful fall foliage here in Sullivan County and particularly at EMCC. As always, please be mindful of frost throughout the fall. Golfers should refrain from play until frost has thawed, as walking on frosty turf can permanently damage the grass, and especially the greens. If there is a question of whether frost is an issue, please err on the side of caution. We look forward to seeing you on the course in the spring, and don t forget to make those last minute holiday gift purchases in the pro shop prior to closing. Enjoy the winter months, wherever your travels may take you. Art Pursel and your EMCC Golf Committee
