MOOSIC, PA (June 9, 2018) - The Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders, playing as the SWB Melonheads on Backyard Baseball Night, fell to the Louisville Bats 9-4 on Saturday night at PNC Field. RailRiders pitching allowed a season-high 20 hits in the loss. Louisville jumped out to the lead in the top of the first inning against left-hander Josh Rogers. Gabby Guerrero and Phillip Ervin delivered RBI singles and came home to score on a two-run base-hit from Mason Williams to hand the Bats a quick 4-0 lead. The RailRiders answered back in the bottom of the first when Clint Frazier walked and Tyler Wade doubled to set runners on second and third with no outs. A passed ball allowed Frazier to score, and a Billy McKinney single plated Wade to narrow the deficit to 4-2. Rogers (5-5) danced in and out of trouble for the remainder of his start, yielding another run in the top of the fifth courtesy of a Blake Trahan RBI single. The Indiana native allowed five runs on 13 hits in 4.2 innings, walking two and striking out three. In the bottom of the fifth, Wade connected for a solo home run against Brandon Finnegan (2-4) to get the RailRiders within 5-3. It was the first round-tripper of the season for Wade with Scranton/Wilkes-Barre, and his first overall since Aug. 26, 2017. Brandon Drury went 2-for-3 with two walks, a double and an RBI to extend his consecutive games reached base streak to 31 games. Drury s streak ties the RailRiders-era franchise record, set by Jake Cave in the 2017 season. current homestand statistics swb g avg ab h r hr bb k sb hitting 5.267 165 44 (8.8) 23 (4.6) 6 24 (4.8) 40 (8.0) 2 swb w-l era ip h r er bb k hr pitching 2-3 5.40 45.0 57 (11.4) 30 (6.0) 27 20 (4.0) 65 (13.0) 5 New York Yankees (MLB) L 2-0 @ New York Mets 2R HR by Todd Frazier B5 Luis Severino: 5.0 IP, 5H, 2R/2ER, 7K *9-2, 2.27 ERA in 14G/14GS Miguel Andujar: 2-3 --.310 AVG Greg Bird: 1-3, BB around the organization Trenton Thunder (AA) L 6-1 vs. Binghamton Rumble Ponies Tim Tebow: 1-4, R --.241 AVG J. The 31 games marks every contest he has played in Triple-A this season between his rehab stint and following his option on May 14. Drury s streak is now tied for the longest in RailRiders history dating back to the franchise s name-change in 2013. Having eclipsed Cole Figueroa s 26-game run in 2015 earlier in the week, the only RailRider who had been left in front of him before Saturday was OF Jake Cave with whom he is now tied at 31. In the midst of the on-base streak, Drury also had a 9-game hit streak. He doubled in the 7 th inning Tuesday to extend his hit streak to 9-straight games which was the longest by a RailRider this season before streak ended with an 0-for-2 Wednesday. HOME COOKING: Scranton/Wilkes-Barre opened a 10-game, nine-day homestand Tuesday with a 6-3 win in the first of a three-game set against Durham before dropping the next two games to drop the series. The Louisville Bats were in town Friday and Saturday before Sunday s contest was cancelled due to rain, after which the longest homestand of the season concludes with four games over three days against Rochester -- including a doubleheader on June 12 to make up for a rainout on May 12. The homestand began with the RailRiders owning a 15-12 record at home on the year (now 17-15) and were 5.0 games back of the Lehigh Valley IronPigs (now 7.5 games back). DON T SEE THAT OFTEN: The Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders allowed 9 runs on 20 hits to the Louisville Bats Sunday night. The last time that the RailRiders pitching staff hit the 20-hit benchmark came in a game vs. Louisville June 25, 2015. Louisville scored 15 runs on 24 hits in a game started by RHP Jaron Long (4.1 IP, 14 H, 11R/11ER). INF Irving Falu (who now plays for the Syracuse Chiefs) was the leadoff hitter for the Bats in that game and went 4-for-5, 2B, 3B, 3 R, RBI, BB. For SWB, the game was highlighted by OF Aaron Judge (1-for-3, HR (1), R, 2 RBI, BB) hitting his first career Triple-A homer in his fourth career game. LONG TIME, NOT GONNA SEE: After ushering the Durham Bulls out of town following Thursday s series-finale, Scranton/Wilkes-Barre will not face the Bulls again until August 10-12 at DBAP. Following Sunday, the RailRiders won t see Louisville again until 2019.
