"Sorority sisters are the siblings that God forgot to give us." Α Φ COB Recruitment Hello ladies, my name is Michelle Cromby and I am the Vice President of Recruitment. This spring semester, we recruited four great new girls: Sara Kleist, Alyssa Pronschinske, Samantha Kamps and Mikayla Durant. The COB events we held were Cocoa and Cookies, Sister Game Night at the Alpha Phi house, Yoga and Yogurt at a local fitness center in and Speed Dating after one of our meetings. We welcomed them into our chapter and they were initiated on March 11, 2010. Our chapter did a great job in finding strong, classy, and real girls this semester and will continue to do so in the future. Our chapter was honored and delighted to host one of the founding members of the Gamma Sigma Chapter of Alpha Phi at a meeting this past semester. Bo Gabriel, was a member of The Palace Athean (which became the Gamma Sigma chapter) and History Lesson was an initiated member of Alpha Phi. She came and spoke to the chapter about her experiences with the chapter 50 years ago. She entertained us with stories about activities the chapter participated in, sang us a song, and shared the rich history of our chapter. It was a unique opportunity for our chapter to hear first hand about our history from this founding sister. It helped strengthen our appreciation for Alpha Phi, which brings so much to all of our lives. -Mari Mills VP of Program Development Sisters with Bo during a chapter meeting Upcoming Chapter Events Recruitment Retreat: August 20-21 Recruitment: September 7-10th Bid Day: September 11th 5K Walk-Run & Alumnae Day: October 2nd Homecoming Week: October 11-16th P A G E 5
Letter from the Director of Alumnae Relations Hello ladies of Alpha Phi! It has been a wonderful semester for Alpha Phi. We had a successful Red Dress Gala, Greek Week, and a great time at sister bonding. This year for sister bonding we went to Rochester and stayed at sister Jackie Talmo s house. We spent the day outside enjoying the weather and each others company. We went out to dinner and then went to an arena to ice skate. It was a wonderful weekend. Recently, the chapter received the UW-Stout 2010 Leadership Award for Organizational Event of the Year for the Red Dress Gala. This is an outstanding accomplishment, with many nominees in the category, and we were pleased to accept the award for all the hard work that each sister put into this event. We recently held our spring formal on May 7th. Sisters and their dates went on a boat cruise on the St. Croix river and everyone had a great time! It has been a pleasure reading all of your announcements, getting to know each of you and what is going on in your lives. I loved reading all your stories, please keep them coming! Have a wonderful and safe summer and I look forward to seeing you all at the Walk-Run! Sisters accepting the award for Organizational Event of the Year -Andrea Miesen Director of Alumnae Relation Letter From the President Hello Sisters, I am Krista Jochum, the chapter s current president. As always, the semester flew by and our spring calendar was jam packed! It was nice to see so many alumnae at out Rockin Red Dress Gala in February! Your support is much appreciated! Our chapter has been working hard on increasing sisterhood between our members. We enjoyed an overnight sister bonding trip in Rochester, MN, where we went ice skating, ate junk food and strengthened friendships. Our bonding efforts paid off during Greek Week and we came out on top, again! We are proud of our seven seniors graduating and wish them the best of luck! I would like to extend a sincere thank you to Sarah Calkins who has been a great asset as our chapter advisor. I am grateful that I have gotten to work with Sarah this semester; she has done a great job passing on her passion and knowledge of Alpha Phi. I am looking forward to working with our new chapter advisor, Diane Olivieri, next semester! -Krista Jochum Chapter President P A G E 6
Gamma Sigma Chapter of Alpha Phi International Fraternity Address: 920 8th St. East Contact Information Menomonie, WI 54751 E-mail: aphi_alumni_stout@hotmail.com Website: http://www.aphistout.com Chapter Advisor s Letter Hello Sisters! I hope you are all enjoying the start of summer. I know those of us in Minnesota certainly are! Recently, I made the difficult decision to step down from my role as Chapter Advisor. For the past 7 years, I have had the privilege of seeing our chapter grow stronger and its collegiate members graduate as amazing young women. Seven years ago, I attended a chapter meeting with Nicole (Smith) Call ( 01) and within weeks, the Regional Team appointed us as Chapter Advisors. We were a great team and worked hard to build up the chapter s leaders and get them to a place where they could make sound decisions independently. Nicole dedicated 4 years to the chapter and stepped down with the birth of her first son, Brady. I could not have continued without the solid foundation Nicole helped to build. Diane Olivieri has served as the chapter s Finance Advisor for the past 4 years and will assume the role of Chapter Advisor this summer. She is an Alpha Phi from the Delta Omega Chapter (deuteron) at Moorhead State. The chapter has great affinity and respect for Diane and I know she will continue to ensure the health and vitality of our chapter. The Advisory Board continues to provide the chapter with outstanding support. This semester, Jen Hogan ( 09) joined the AB as the chapter s Recruitment Advisor. As a collegiate member of the Gamma Sigma chapter, Jen held the positions of Director of COB and VP Recruitment. She is a great addition to the AB and continues to help the chapter recruit strong members. Thank you for supporting our chapter. Alumnae involvement means so much to the collegiate members. Thank you for the encouragement and support you ve shown me as Chapter Advisor. Have a wonderful summer! Stay Connected! Fan Alpha Phi UW-Stout on Facebook! Loyally, Sarah Calkins P A G E 7
