The Bengals played five-straight road games in three different states. This weekend, ISU topped Seattle at home, 83-67. The Bengals are led by senior guard Apiphany Woods who averages 14.3 points per game. She is also the team s assist leader with 3.1 per game. Defensively, senior forward Anna Policicchio leads the team with 5.4 rebounds per game. Idaho State is coached by Seton Sobolewski who has compiled a 116-106 record in his eight years at the helm of the program. As a team, the Bengals are averaging 63.4 points per game while shooting 40.3 percent (160-of-397) from the field, 29.8 percent (36-of-121) from behind the arc and 71.5 percent (88-of-123) from the free throw line. With less than 100 miles separating the two schools, State and Idaho State are very familiar opponents. The teams have met on the court 29 times over the years, with the Bengals just holding the series advantage, 15-14. The last meeting was in Logan on Nov. 22, 2013, where the Aggies topped ISU, 78-66. That win snapped a six-game series win streak for Idaho State. USU has not won in Pocatello since Nov. 30, 1985, when the Aggies just edged the Bengals, 75-74. SCOUTING UTAH VALLEY The Valley Wolverines will be well-rested going into Thursday s game as they will have a week off between competitions. The Wolverines are 6-4 on the year, looking to snap a three-game losing streak. Thursday will be the first home game for UVU since Nov. 23, with four games played in the meantime. Most recently, the Wolverines played at Oregon, falling, 79-68. Valley is led by junior guard Rhaiah Spooner-Knight who averages 14.4 points per game. Junior forward Rebecca MaWhinney is the top rebounder for the Wolverines, averaging 5.4 boards per game. Cathy Nixon is in her 21st season as the head coach at UVU, where she has an overall record of 336-278. Overall, the Wolverines are averaging 73.1 points per game, shooting 42.8 percent (258-of-603) from the floor, 29.8 percent (165-of-223) from the 3-point line and 74.0 percent (165-of-223) from the charity stripe. The series between State and Valley dates back to the 2004 season with meetings all but three years in that stretch. The Aggies lead the all-time series, 6-3, but the teams have won two games each on UVU s home court. The Wolverines traveled to Logan last season, where the Aggies won, 79-61. USU s last win in Orem was on Dec. 10, 2012 in an 80-66 victory. BIG SKY COUNTRY Tuesday s game will be the third of potentially four games the Aggies will play against Big Sky opponents this season. State opened the season in a 95-86 loss to Sacramento State. On the team s last roadtrip, the Aggies fell to Northern Colorado, 74-60. Following this week s road games, USU will play at the Lady Griz Classic, hosted by Montana. Depending on results on the first day of the tournament, the Aggies and Grizzlies could meet on Sunday, Dec. 22. All-time, State is 75-84 against current Big Sky teams. BACK TO THEIR ROOTS While the field has changed drastically, Thursday s game will mark State s return to Western Athletic Conference competition. The current WAC members include just two teams that the Aggies played during their time in the league. Since joining the Mountain West in the 2013-14 season, Valley is the only WAC school State has played. There are currently eight women s basketball programs in the WAC. The Aggies have series history against three of them, with a 23-24 all-time record. THE ELUSIVE ROAD WIN With this week s roadtrip, State is looking for its first road win of the season. After opening the season with three-straight home games, the Aggies played back-to-back road contests, falling at BYU (81-69) and Northern Colorado (74-60). State has not won a road game since defeating Air Force, 69-53, on Jan. 17 last season. That win was the sole road win for the Aggies last season. TOUR OF UTAH Thursday s game is the fourth of five in-state opponents for the Aggies. By the end of the preseason, State will have played five of the eight NCAA women s basketball programs in the state of. State hosted Dixie State in exhibition action (Nov. 7), as well as Westminster, defeating both teams. Thursday will be the team s return to County, as the Aggies played at BYU on Nov. 24, falling, 81-69. The Aggies will conclude the non-conference season at home on Dec. 22, hosting. All-time, State is 35-95 against in-state opponents. The Aggies lead the alltime series against Valley (6-3), Westminster (2-0) and Southern (5-2), while trailing against BYU (3-34), Dixie State (0-1), Weber State (16-23) and (3-32). UTAH VALLEY CONNECTIONS Valley junior forward Karlee Kartchner Norris State Game Notes 2 Dec. 7, 2015

TOOLE TIME When she was named the 5A MVP for the state of after her senior season at Viewmont High School in Bountiful, freshman guard Katie Toole had high expectations coming into her collegiate career. Toole recorded her first-career double-double at Northern Colorado with 11 points and 11 rebounds. In her collegiate debut against Sacramento State, she scored a career-best 22 points, while she has scored in double-digits in four of the season s six games. TALE OF TWO AVERAGES The Aggies are off to a hot start offensively this season. Averaging 76.2 points per game, State is second in the Mountain West in scoring. Nakkasoglu, Toole and Brewster are all averaging more than 10 points per game, while Nakkasoglu was the sole Aggie player to do so last season. GUESS WHO S BACK, BACK AGAIN Sophomore guard Funda Nakkasoglu is the sole returning starter for the Aggies this season and is jumping back in where she left off last season. The 2014-15 Mountain West Freshman of the Year continues to lead the Aggies on the court this season. She has scored in double figures five times this season, breaking the 20-point barrier four times. She scored a career-best 37 points in the win over Pacific, the first 30-point game of her career and tied for the fourth-most points in a single game in school history. Nakkasoglu is the first State player to receive the preseason nod since the Aggies joined the Mountain West. She is the first to be named to the preseason all-conference list since Devyn Christensen was named to the Preseason All-Western Athletic Conference First-Team prior to the 2012-13 season. Joining Nakkasoglu on the preseason team is Boise State junior guard Brooke Pahukoa, Colorado State junior guard Ellen Nystrom, New Mexico senior forward Khadijah Shumpert and Wyoming senior guard Marquelle Dent. State 90, Haskell 63 December 4, 2015 THE LAST TIME OUT State women s basketball head coach Jerry Finkbeiner celebrated his 100th game with the Aggies Friday night in a 90-63 victory over Haskell Indian Nations. Sophomore guard Funda Nakkasoglu led the Aggies in scoring with 27 points and was just shy of a double-double with nine assists. Senior forward Tijana Djukic set a new career-best with 19 points on the night, while freshman guard Rachel Brewster matched her career-high with 17. Freshman center Deja Mason led the team in rebounding with nine boards, adding eight points. After missing the early weeks of the season with an injury, freshman guard Taylor Enders made her collegiate debut Friday, scoring two points and picking up two rebounds. Overall, the Aggies out-rebounded the Indians, 46-33 in the win. As a team, State scored its season-high in the win, while adding a season-best 17 steals. With the victory, the Aggies improve to 3-3 on the season. As an NAIA Division II program, Friday s game was an exhibition for Haskell. The Indians return to regular competition with a 8-2 record. It was a slow start for the Aggies, as the Indians kept the pace throughout the first quarter. As the lead changed back-and-forth, USU began to gain momentum. The Aggies closed the first quarter on an 8-2 run, led by Nakkasoglu who scored six-straight points in the final minute of play. With the surge, USU had the advantage back at the end of the quarter, where it would stay for the remainder of the game. Enders came into the game early in the second quarter, immediately scoring the first points of her career. The Aggies continued to pick up speed and had the double-digit lead at the media timeout. State again went on a long run to close the quarter, scoring 13-straight for the 51-27 halftime advantage. By the 7:18 mark of the third quarter, Nakkasoglu had already hit the 20-point barrier. As the Aggie playmaker began to rest more, Brewster led the team with three made shots from behind the arc. The momentum carried on through the remainder of the third, where USU maintained the doubled-up lead, up 76-35 at the end of the third quarter. The fourth quarter proved to be the strongest quarter for Haskell who found an offensive surge and cut into the Aggies lead. As the Indians kept an even pace, they were able to cut their final deficit for the 90-63 final score. Overall, State shot 50.0 percent (33-of-66) from the field, 27.3 percent (3-of-11) from the 3-point line and 72.4 percent (21-of-29) from the free throw line. Haskell shot 31.1 percent (19-of-61) from the field, 27.0 percent (10-of-37) from behind the arc and 78.9 percent (15-of-19) from the free throw line. Northern Colorado 74, State 60 December 1, 2015 State out-rebounded UNC, 48-35 Despite a third quarter comeback from a 13-point deficit, the State women s basketball team fell to Northern Colorado, 74-60, Tuesday night. With the loss, State falls to 2-3 on the season, while Northern Colorado improves to 5-2 with the victory. Sophomore guard Funda Nakkasoglu led the Aggies in scoring with 25 points, her third 20-point game of the season. Freshman guard Katie Toole earned the first double-double of her collegiate career as she led the team in rebounds with a career-best 11, adding 11 points. The Aggies started out strong, but it didn t take long for the Bears to catch up. The score was tied by the first media timeout, with Northern Colorado finding its first lead right out of the stop. The USU offense played very evenly, spreading out the scoring between several players throughout the first quarter. While scoring was shared, so was the defense as the Aggies tallied five combined fouls before the Bears committed any. Those fouls were all committed by different players. By the end of the first, Northern Colorado had pulled ahead, 26-20, while Nakkasoglu had already reached double-figures, leading the team with 10 points. As the second quarter picked up, so did the Northern Colorado offense. Led eight-straight points from Kourteney Zadina, the Bears found their biggest lead of the half, increasing to a 34-24 advantage at the media timeout. The Bears momentum carried through the remainder of the half, while the UNC defense held the Aggies back. Nakkasoglu scored just two points in the quarter on a pair of free throws. Freshman guard Katie Toole led the team through the second with four points. The Bears took the teams into the halftime break with a 44-31 lead. The second half started in a much better fashion for the Aggies who opened the third quarter on a 16-2 run. State found its first lead of the night at the 4:08 mark of the quarter as senior forward Tijana Djukic picked up an and-one, making the free throw. At the end of three, State led, 51-48. Again led by Zadina, who scored all but one basket for the Bears through the third quarter, Northern Colorado clung on to the Aggies as the lead alternated between the teams. While Toole hit the double-double mark, the Bears found a surge of energy to move back on top. The Bears continued to gain momentum, again finding a double-digit lead. With less than two minutes to play, Nakkasoglu snapped the four-minute scoring skid for the Aggies with a threepoint play. As fouls picked up on both ends of the court, State was able to get back within single digits of the Bears, but it wasn t enough as UNC played until the clock ran out with the 74-60 final score. Overall, State shot 38.6 percent (22-of-57) from the field, 27.8 percent (5-of-18) from the 3-point line and 61.1 percent (11-of-18) from the free throw line. Northern Colorado shot 41.5 percent (27- of-65) from the field, 40.0 percent (12-of-30) from behind the arc and 80.0 percent (8-of-10) from the free throw line. State Game Notes 6 Dec. 7, 2015
