The Alabama Legislature passed into law Act 2008-467 which changed the law with regard to the eligibility of persons wanting to purchase recreational and/or commercial gill net licenses. During the 2009 license year, only individuals holding a gill net license on June 1, 2008 could renew their license. These licenses must be renewed annually or else the license will be permanently forfeited. Commercial gill net licensees must also continue to meet the license qualifications established by Act 95-287.
